During an airsoft event, my ex military buddies showed me how to deal with NV users while having no NV of your own. Their training involved abusing blueberry shrubs. There's something about their IR signature that helps you hide from NV in ways that other vegetation won't.

1. At night don't look right at a object you want to see. Look slightly above it. 2. I run Butler Creek scope cap on my weapon light. It will stop a negligent light discharge and kill flash in the day time.

I find it comical in the modern prepper community that you hear folks saying that if you can’t afford to drop 6 grand on a gen 3 NOD and an IR laser and illuminator that you are useless when the sun goes down. Folks partied at night for centuries before the advent of the image intensifier tube. Just gotta not be stupid.

I used to hunt coyotes at night and alot of the time I didn't use my nods. Sometimes I found them a hindrance at .gov funded dance parties

Idk if your enemy does have the capability you're probably better off trying not to operate at night at all.

If the enemy has night vision and you don’t, you will lose.. it’s that simple

My last year of high school, when paintball was still new and out of control expensive and airsoft barely even existed, a group of us got the idea to start taking the low level BB guns and pistols and rifles (no co2 allowed) and go to war on the weekends in a big field or light woods. It was always late evening or already dark and carried on into the early morning. I learned a lot of things just from doing that which I still use. Sounds from animals, movement, light or lack of, all kinds of things were valuable learning tools.

This is similar to why pirates wore eyepatches. Most think it’s because they lost an eye but it was actually to save their night vision in one eye when going below deck. Plus, it looks cool…

I'll honestly admit I was 12 years 11B in the army National Guard and they never talked about fighting without NVGs I have decent night vision but like you said not everybody does even with 2 deployments overseas we had the red-light but I told them only for Map reading and that's under a poncho
@ModernFrontiersman
@ModernFrontiersman 2 года назад
we barely even used them in training, so I never really depended on them.

@@ModernFrontiersman Good call brother I only used mine when I had too plus I had PVS 14s so only one eye anyway helps more but in Africa there was 0 Lum lol so they were useless sometimes

Your eyes take about 5 minutes to shift from using rods or cones for day or night. I learned this in survival school in the military. Thirty minutes is mostly overkill.

Ahhhh the old Fulton flashlight. Just broke my old one from 1984 out. Upgraded with a LED bulb and its still working and can be utilized even amongst the new modern light. Also the signaling function is a tool in the box.

The good thing about having a red lense on your moonbeam is that the red doesn't mess up your night vision. Also animals can't see red light so if you're hunting at night they won't see your light.

Keep up with these vids. These are great for us basic folk who just want some skills that don't require Gucci gear to perform well.

Obviously, it's better to have them than not...but what are we supposed to do, just lay down and die because we can't drop 3 grand on night vision? I didn't spend the last 10 years prepping (almost all of that time on a hand to mouth budget) just to give up now...

Times are tough and only going to get worse in the next few months. Get what you can while you can, do a hard count and top off any shortfalls.

That's all well and good if your in an area where there aren't many sources of light and few mixed lighting areas. If you have any mixed areas or some nearby bright sources then your natural night vision is going to suck as it takes only seconds of white light exposure to cause a reset that takes 30min. Old gen2 NVGs were probably not great, but they're a lot better than stumbling blinded by your own white weapon light. Even gen3 PVS14s can be had for $3000, which may seem steep, but most decent ARs are $1200+. So while it may take awhile, if you set aside about $8.20 a day for a year, you could buy modern NVGs.

I have a couple of really nice rechargeable headlamps and one of the light color options is green, no red. I walk around in my backyard at night sometimes just to work them a bit.

My thinking is yes it's been done for all of human history but if your enemy does have the capability and you don't you're probably better off doing your fighting during the day, in the shade.

If bet if u do drop a grand u will end up with some thing like what u had and u won’t see much better than with good eyes that adjust. Needless to say I wouldn’t grab em unless I had an over abundance of dough to blow

I don’t know, I hate to say it, but I feel like in an shtf situation, most folks won’t have NVGs and some people may have nods and not know how to use them. Either way, it would be bad in the United States, lots of people would die I’d think. I don’t like the idea of not having my depth perception, gotta have that. Is it the same for thermal goggles, in terms of depth perception limitations? Also: I run AKs, it possible to use irons painted with tritium or another chemical like that without messing up your eyes at night? I was thinking of trying to get some trit paint, or get my irons painted, it would at least be a drop in the bucket, and probably not gonna break the bank.
@BezmenovDisciple
@BezmenovDisciple 5 месяцев назад
It’s my understanding that the basic night vision with dual tubes is absolutely crap for depth perception but that the higher end NVGs with 4 tubes is a lot better. Of course, those models are prohibitively expensive. IMO, NVGs are a rich man’s toy.

Paint your irons with cheap white or green glow in the dark paint. It only barely glows and works for most people

This is coping… if you don’t have they hear then your fucked especially if they have thermal whatever tactics your doing goes out the window
