Thank you Ruthie - you say the sweetest things. It's so hard watching the kids miss their mom - really hurts. Thanks for the extra love and hugs :) xxxx Grace
Oh Grace, sorry for the loss of your friend. I loved seeing the twiddle muff. Great idea. I've made some twiddle mats (quilting) but was trying to find a way to transfer it over to my other crafting loves.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I bet your quilted twiddle mats are beautiful!!! I'm glad my video helped spark new ideas for you!! Have a great weekend!! xx Grace
This is absolutely Awesome!!!! Thank you so much!!! I have been wanting to make something like this and had no clue how to go about it! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart ❤️
thank you for sharing your Twiddle Muff tips Grace! This is a wonderful caring project. So sorry to hear about your friend. I will keep her children and you her friend, in my prayers.

Thank you for always being such an uplifting person - you have such a caring spirit, and make me want to be a better person
Thank you for your video. I have never seen a twiddle muff. Im always fidgeting, crocheting, tapping etc. I might as well start crochet some muffs. You have a big heart. Love your personality. Hugs!
This is absolutely brilliant! I have never heard of a twiddle muff, but I have had several family members with Alheimers. I will definitely be making a few this month for the local nursing home! Thank you!
Thank you for this!! Loved your video & felt like we were a group of buddies crafting together. Thoughts with Isaac & family. Looking forward to more of your videos ❤️
I have just discovered twiddle muffs and am just about to start planning to crochet my first one. Your video has inspired me, so thank you. So many great ideas !
I am so glad you are going to make some!! This is fantastic - gives me a big smile!! Have fun making them - there are so many things you can do to them😊💗
Thank you so much! I made one for my mother who has dementia and she absolutely loves it. I also made them for other residents and they love theirs too. Your video was very well done!! Thank you so much 💗
I love what you have done and would love to see a video on how you make a pocket to attach as well as any other things you make and attach. I have trouble figuring out how to make and attach things.
Grace! Thank you so much for sharing this! I have been wanting to make some of these. You did such a good job explaining. So sorry to hear about your friend, I will be praying for the family. You have such a sweet heart. Thank you again💗
You are so welcome, and thank you for your kind comment. If you have any questions when you start making one, I would be happy to help you out. I really appreciate the prayers for this family - they mean a lot to me. Thank you for your kindness xoxo Grace
Hello thank you for your tutorial, I will be having a go at making some of these for my school. Sorry to hear about your friend. I will keep her, her family, you in my prayers. God bless, Susie xx 😊 🇬🇧
I've recently learned about twiddle muffs. I think it's a wonderful idea to make and donate them. Thank you for this video Grace. It would be a great way to use the extra yarn from other projects too. I'm saving this episode for reference to make these in the future.
These really are great for using up scraps of yarn, plus they help people too!! It's a win-win situation. They are fun to design just using your imagination!!
💜💜💜💜💜💜 thank you for this video! I am participating in the longest day....I could not decide what to work on! Now I know! I made a mat a few years ago and forgot all about this! You are a blessing for me today! Thank you!💜💜💜
I am so glad that my video helped spark an idea for you!!! I haven't tried a twiddle mat, but I think I might try some of those too - thanks for the idea :) You have been a blessing to me also!!! Enjoy your crafting on the longest day!!! Thank you so much for your kind comments
What a Great Idea! My Mother Had Dementia. And this the 1st time, I have ever heard of a Twiddle Muff. Just Love the Idea! So Sorry to Hear about the Loss of your Friend. I will keep all of you in my Prayers 🙏✝️🙏
Awesome ❤ I've decided that I want to make something to help the elderly with dementia. I've enjoyed watching your video. I think you did a wonderful job. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for your kind words, Maria! That would be awesome for you to help dementia patients!! Sometimes we seem to forget that vulnerable part of the population ❤️
Well, Grace, I have no idea how I missed this video when you first put it out, but I just came across it and knew instantly that I'd not seen it, because of the content matter. I've always been intrigued with Twiddle Muffs and wanted to try one. I love all your ideas for the one you highlighted in this video. I am so sorry for your loss of your friend, my dear. Yes, my thoughts will go out to her family and hope they all find peace eventually. Take care, Grace.
Thank you Cindy - I really enjoy thinking of new ways to design my twiddle muffs, thus my search to find ways to make pompoms that wouldn't fall apart :) I appreciate your thoughts for the family - I am really close to Isaac, as I taught him English when he first came here from Honduras about 4 years ago. He likes to come over and visit me and my husband, and he really misses his mom. All the kids do - it's been a really tough time for them. Thank you so much for your kinds words!! Hugs to you, Cindy xxx Grace
What a great idea. I may make some for our nursing homes. I will pray for the family. It is so hard to deal with the loss of a parent, as you and myself have. I am new to your channel, but I know you will be a special person for their family. May God bless you both.
I know the nursing homes in my area are always thrilled to get them, so I think that would be great if you are able to make some!! Thank you for such kind words, and I'm thrilled that you have subscribed to my channel :) -Grace
I don't crochet, but I knit. I found some knitting patterns. You gave me some great ideas for yarns that make different textures. I also and making a list of different decorations to add. Thank you!
That's fantastic!! I think these twiddle muffs really help people who are suffering with Alzheimer's and Dementia and even Anxiety!! You are so very welcome!
Rewatching your video Grace. I'm going to do one for my mother and I'm planning on doing a tutorial. The first time I heard of this was on this video a long time ago, I think she is ready for this now. I'm from Spain and I don't think that these twiddle muff are very well known here. Thank you again! Happy New year 2023! 🤗💕
I actually found out about them from the UK. Many people here in the US have never heard of them either, but I think they are great! Have fun making one for your mom - I know she will love it. Happy New Year to you!! 🥰💖
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend, Grace. =/ My grandmother has Alzheimer's, and I've been wanting to make her something for a while. This might be it. Thanks for all the tips!
Thank you Randi - it was really sad. Isaac sent me a text at 11:30 pm letting me know his mom was gone, with crying faces - I didn't sleep much that night. He is such a good kid - I think of him as a grandson. I hope a twiddle muff would help your grandmother out - I might try a twiddle blanket too, but I think I like the twiddle muffs the best, as they can even wear it on one arm and twiddle with the things, or lay it in their lap. I know it's hard watching your loved one suffer
I just found your video & love your generous spirit. I didn't know anything about "twiddle muffs"--- I wish I did as I had an aunt who had dementia. Thank you for teaching us.
Thank you so much for your kind words!! I wish I had known about them when my mom was still alive - I think it would have really helped her. I want to do a more comprehensive tutorial on how to make them, as many have asked for one 💖
Aww grace I'm so sorry that your friend has lost her battle sending virtual hugs to both you and her loved ones. My dad has vascular dementia he was diagnosed 9 years ago and we are extremely lucky as his hasn't progressed in the usual way and he is still very active. I have a twiddle muff waiting for him but he doesn't want or need it right now. Hope you are ok and your back is feeling better x 😘
Thank you so much for your sweetness and kind heart Lynnie - you are super special!! I'm sorry to hear about your dad, and I hope he continues to be active for many more years. You will have your twiddle muff ready if and when it is needed. My back feels so much better - thank you for asking - love you my dear friend. Hope you are doing well also. xxxx Grace
This is such an awesome project.....and such an awesome cause. I will be making some over the summer. This is something that is close to my heart as well. Something similar to this would be great for Kid with autism.....with a few tweaks for safety purposes . I'm in love with this project!. Thank you for sharing.👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
I'm so glad you are going to make some of these!! You are right about them being good for kids with autism also. I try to make mine as safe as possible for the people I give them too - safety is so important!! Kudos to you!!!!
So sorry for the loss of your friend ; my condolences and my prayers 🙏🏻🙏🏻 so sad ; I hope her children have some comfort knowing they were loved very much ; and their mother isn’t suffering anymore : May she Rest In Peace , 🤗🙏🏻 Caren
Thank you for your kind condolences and prayers - they are much needed. It is so hard on my dear Isaac, and I know it will take time for him - he is like a grandson to me, and I hate to see him hurting. I know with lots of prayers he will make it through this, so again, thank you for the prayers xoxox Grace
Sorry for your lost of your friend and your mom. I understand how hard it is.....You are wonderful and thank you so much for your help and you nice video. I will surely make one. Happy Christmas to you and your family!! xoxo
Thank you Esme!!! The kids really need the prayers. Isaac texted me today, and he was really sad - he was at my house yesterday (Sunday), and was fine as long as he was here. He's really missing his mom, as would be expected. God bless you sweetie!!! Praying for you!!! Love, Grace
You are so welcome!! I really hope this helps them. There are so many ways you can make these, and personalize them with certain colors and fun buttons!
I love your video I made two muffs I did not line them I am going to now you did a beautiful job I hope you make lots of videos you are a good teacher thank you so much ❤
Thanks for sharing a great tutorial yours is happy I love it something I can do my mom also had dementia, bad rheumatoid arthritis and she would help me when I would crochet projects for homeless or to Cell. She would wind up Myon into balls. It kept us busy for hours, thank you so much❤
Thank you for your kind comment! That's so wonderful to have such wonderful memories with your mom. These are fun to make and are so helpful to many people. Take care 💖
I'm so glad I came across this. The woman who was like a second mother to me growing up has dementia. She made so many things for me over the years from Barbie clothes to baby clothes for my kids, and I'm going to make a Twiddle Muff for her. I haven't seen her in almost 3 years now, but the last time I saw her she was pretty bad. She has 2 sons, so she doesn't have a daughter to help her out. She lives in her house alone and her sons don't live less than an hour away. I'm 4 1/2 hours away, but now I have something that I can do for her. Thank you so very much!
Oh how wonderful!! I really hope it helps her. That is so sweet of your to do - I really think she will love it. Most enjoy playing with the different things on the Twiddle Muff. I've had several ask me to do a tutorial on how to make one, so I plan on doing a full tutorial before long. You've probably crocheted and knitted enough to know how to make a tube and then just put different items on it. Have fun with it - it really is fun to make them!! You are so welcome!! 💖
This is such a wonderful video! I'd like to make some one day for one of our local nursing homes. We have two here, a fancy one for wealthy people, and a government one for everyone else. So I'd probably take it to the not so fancy one. Since they probably have a bigger need for items like that.
Thank you Ella!!! I hope you are able to make some!!! I know that the one I take mine too is always so excited to receive the twiddle muffs. I asked if they take donations of shawls, lapghans and other things also, and they said they do. There are so many residents in there that have no one come and visit them, and this makes me so sad. And you are right, the government one could definitely use anything that you make!!
I am so sorry for the loss of a friend. I will keep the family and you in my prayers. I loss my mother to dementia, it is a terrible way to die. You more or less starve to death. Thank you for making the muffs .They will help them so much. You are really putting a lot of work into eavh one.
Thank you Connie, you are so kind. Yes, dementia is horrible, and is so hard to watch your loved one suffer like that. I tried everything I knew of to try and get my mom to eat and drink, but she didn't want anything. I really enjoy making the twiddle muffs, and I pray that they might bring some comfort to others. I want to put my best into each one I make, because I think everyone deserves the best I can give. Thank you so much for your kind comments all of the time - I really appreciate them :) xxx Grace
The Fidget Spinner for Alzheimers! Great idea! When my 2 cousins went so far back in dementia that they were beyond this, I took them soft stuffed animals, and they hugged them.
Hi Kathy!! I wish I had known about these, and knew how to crochet in my mom's last few months. Like you, we did get her some stuffed animals to hug on - she really liked them. I want to make more Twiddle Muffs - I'm hoping the nursing homes will start taking items again, since this virus started.
@@gbmaltese We're all still learning! I've seen similar "fidget blankets" that people sewed rather than crocheted, which contain buttons, ties, fabric of different texture, etc., for the same purpose. Anything like that helps with the nervous energy and high stress of dementia. No matter what skills we have, we can make something like this. Best wishes.
You are so right - you can make twiddle muffs and blankets out of just about anything!! People knit, loom knit, crochet, sew, quilt and I'm sure there are many other ways to make them. I think it's awesome that you are wanting to make some to help others who are suffering - you are great!!
This is a great tutorial! I'm doing this as an idea for a University assignment for community engagement, getting the community together to make muffs for aged care facilities in the local community. You mentioned about the dangers of how buttons can still always be pulled off by people, I'd provide them to the facility with advice that they should be used under supervision, as I am sure they would anyway during activity time 😊
That's a great idea!! I would love to see more and more nursing homes be able to share these with their patients. I use braided fishing line to sew my beads on - it's really tough to break that stuff! I'm pretty sure they supervise them during activity time too 😊💖
@@gbmaltese Great idea! I've also heard of people using dental floss to thread items... I'm picking up on some great tips to add to my report, they are all quite cheap and things that communities would willingly donate!
Thank you for your condolences. The nursing home is always happy to get more twiddle muffs, and I really hope they bring some joy to others. Hope you are having a great weekend!!
I want to add something to the muff so the dementia patients don't lose or forget it somewhere. I'm thinking apron strings to tie around their waist maybe? Any other suggestions?
These can also be made as flat mats if they don't want to put their hands inside a muff. I taught school for 34 years, and I wish I had known about these before. I've been retired for 2 years now, and I had some kids who were very anxious - I think these might have been good for them to fiddle with when feeling uptight. Good luck on trying it!! You are very welcome - I hope it will help!! -Grace
@@lisagordon6355 Are you referring to that annoying ceiling fan? I am so sorry - I didn't notice that it was making that noise until I had already finished and uploaded my video. I need to do a video tutorial on how to make them - I've had several people ask me to do this. I will make sure there is NO noise at that point. You made me laugh with your comment though - lol!! 💐💕💖🌺
Thank you so much for showing how to create a twiddle muff. The colors you used where beautiful. I still have not made an octopus and would love to give it a try. Do you have a link to that pattern? Also I'd love to see how you make your pom poms so they don't fall apart. Take care.
Hi Lorelei - thank you for your kind comments!!! I will put a link to the octopus pattern right here - esshaych.blogspot.com/2017/05/free-pattern-friday-mini-ami-octopus.html I hope you have fun making this little fellow - I think they are so cute. I will definitely do a video for you on making pom poms that don't fall apart, as I struggled with this for so long!! Thanks for watching and take care :) xxx Grace
Thank you Summer, I try to make them as if I was making them for someone in my family. I don't want anyone to feel they are receiving less than my best, plus, I enjoy designing them :)
Yes, autistic children like the stimulus of texture though I'm not sure about the sound of the crinkle paper. If the crinkle paper were done like a pompom (cat toy) and attached so they could touch it, the sound might be fine. I wouldn't use the metal ring for a child, but you could sew/crochet the curly caterpillars right into the inside and outside of the muff. You could use the cute octopi as toys. if you did the muff from fabric or quilting, you could use sewn Velcro to have lots of soft things to attach/remove but a crochet muff is just too much yarn for Velcro! Another texture/feel is stretchy. You can attach or make the curly caterpillars with an elastic or stretchy yarn and either attach it so they can pull but it bounces back or attach it closely so they can get a more rubbery tug without the big bounce back. Just so long as nothing can fall/break off and into mouths! I noticed plastic eyes on the octopi and wondered, but figure they are safety eyes. God Bless you.💟
I love the name Twiddle Muff - we make them in the UK but we call them Dementia sleeves - but I think Twiddle Muff sounds better. Do you have a pattern for the Octopus? I really enjoyed watching your video. Thank you for all the great tips on all the items you added to your Muff. So sorry to hear about your friend. May the Lord bless the family at this sad time.
Here is a link to the pattern on Ravelry: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-amigurumi-octopus Thank you for your kind words. I'm planning on doing a tutorial from beginning to end on making a twiddle muff - I have had many requests for this. I enjoy just adding all sorts of things to them!! I hope you enjoy making your twiddle muffs!! 😊💖🌹
I have never seen anyone make a video with a pattern as yet. Here is a link to a kindle book I purchased a few years ago, but have never used it: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BB359BR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 If you don't want to crochet a tube, you can also crochet a recatangle and sew the longer sides together to make a tube. I just use whatever stitches I feel like making and add different types of things that can be fiddled with. I have an outer and inner tube so that the things I add to the outside won't scratch anyone's hands where it was attached on the inside (I hope this makes sense).
A fun tip I use is to thread beads on the yarn before you start and slide one up the yarn when you yarn over every once in awhile. I'm making some of these for neurology patients in the hospital. Mainly because my husband is a nurse on that floor and I have an insider. He actually asked me to crochet some because his patients often are confused and pull out their IVs. Then sometimes they have to be restrained because they really need the IVs and that's no fun for anyone.
I have done it that way also - so many ways to crochet!! I have started using braided fishing line now to attach the beads - I feel like this will be safer in keeping the beads from falling off. I think that's fantastic what you are doing!! I live in a small town, so we have a very small hospital, but it might help with people with IVs!! Do you make your Twiddle Muffs large like this one, or do you make yours more of a wrist size, where it can be worn on one arm? I love to hear how other people incorporate their Twiddle Muffs!!
I just make up my own pattern. I crochet a tube using different stitches, or you can even crochet a rectangle and sew the sides together. I have had many people ask me to make a video showing how I make these, so maybe I'll be able to do something like that.
@@sylviawatts4027 A lap blanket would be great too!! I think I'm going to make some of those too for people like your friend's mum. You can add all sorts of things for texture.
Did you watch the video? I tried to explain what a twiddle muff is in the video. They are commonly used for Dementia and Alzheimer patients to help with their anxiety. Hope that helps.
