Hi - Just watched your video on planting cacti cuttings. You mentioned that one of the pads had a flower bud and you weren't sure bud would open. I planted a cactus pad cutting that had three buds and they all opened a couple of days later. Pretty cool. Now, the pad is growing new pads. Big fan of yours. Learning a lot.

The flower bud actually did open after a few days and it was orange! Yes, very cool. 😉 Thank you so much.

Hi Anna! Gorgeous collection of cacti. I have a type of Teddy bear cacti and they are mean to me every time I'm careless around them. They sure keep me in check and let me know who's boss. Hahahaha. However, they are worth all the scars and take my breath away when back lit by the sun. I smiled when I saw them potted up and together because they looked beautiful. Thank you for sharing my friend. From the garden city of India to you, have a joyous day in your garden! God bless. Cheers

Great video Ana, awesome loot bag! Kind of your friend for letting you take cuttings. They look absolutely vicious though but you did an expert job at potting them up. I’m not a fan of perlite myself, as you say it’s very light and has a habit of floating to the surface. Pumice isn’t easy to find where I am either but I do have some and more on order, like you it’s reserved for expensive or specific cacti and used sparingly lol. Awesome video once again, thank you for sharing and have a fantastic day 😊👍🌵☀️☕️
@edithcoliagrandis
@edithcoliagrandis 5 лет назад
Hi, Ana! Can’t wait for the update when they start to root and grow. Awesome tip too on your potting mix. It really depends on the elements around the plants. In Baguio, they grow succulents in a more water-retaining mix because it’s cold up there and windy and the medium tends to dry faster. i love your dog! my 2 cats tend to lie down beside where i do my gardening. Darren calls them his plant guardians. 🤣 ‘til your next video. Have an awesome week ahead. 🥰
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine 5 лет назад
Honestly, I hate perlite. But they are cheap, and I am on a budget. Hahaha. Have you ever used charcoal in your soil? I see others use them on succulents and I’m wondering if they are good for cacti, too. 🤔

@edithcoliagrandis
@edithcoliagrandis 5 лет назад
Our pets love to be the star of the show. 😂 Darren and I hate perlite too. Ha ha. i’ve never tried charcoal for my cacti. For houseplants, yes because it improves the ph balance in soil and promotes beneficial bacteria. It also helps increase water absorption. 🥰
@Cactimania
@Cactimania 5 лет назад
My little plant guardians lol. I’ve not tried charcoal myself but I’m doing some tests with some crushed lava rock, not sure that would be suitable for you though Ana as it does dry out pretty fast but good for adding weight to the pots. Also got an Aloe growing in just pure lava rock as a test to see how it does.

@@CactusCaffeine Haha 😅😅 It's pretty easy to do but very time consuming. I don't do any gardening in the morning as I'm always out till about noon. I start my gardening around 5pm or earlier depending on whether the sun has gone down enough. I just finished 1 section of my secret garden dedicated specifically to my taller cacti that outgrew their pots at my rock garden. Took me 3 weeks as I had to clear out plants that were there root and all in preparation for the cacti. They're all done now. Will do a short video on it soon. Haven't actually made a video on my fairy garden as well. I've also done a few succulent dishes to put around my koi pond. My leafy plants were all getting yellow and I had to continuously maintain them. I'll also be doing a short video on how I do my succulent dishes. Maybe you could try your hand at that too, Anna! I like them because to me, they look really pretty and I don't have to maintain them too much like the ones I created at my oriental garden. They're all growing nicely. Can't wait to see what you're doing in your cacti garden. 🤔🤔🤔

Cactus Caffeine...I reasonly got a prickly pear but not sure how to take care of it...Is there any specific thing I need to do to take care of right? How much sun do they need? And how offen do you need to water them? And how offen do you need to replant? I think they are interested...How do you take care of if indoor?
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine 4 года назад
Hi Angela! Prickly pears are tough and sun loving cactus. The only sure way to kill them is letting their roots sit in wet soil for a long time. But some older and well established ones can take more water than other cactus. Water only when the pads start to shrivel. That is the safest. Replant when your opuntia is already tipping over its pot. Hope this helps. 🙂🌵☕️

I just recently encountered scales po for the first time in my Mexican Fence post. I had to research on the internet, too. What I found useful was 50% alcohol, 50% water and a few drops of dishwashing soap. Rub all the scales off then spray. Then neem oil as an overall preventive measure. I hope you get rid of them. 🙂
