This is one of the better "how to" vids on youtube for this. Dropping some real knowledge from a guy who obviously knows what he is doing in a clear and quick vid. Unlike most others which are 20+ minutes with some yahoo all dressed up in his new leathers just regurgitating information he read on the box.

Everyone has their own way of doing things that work for them so no disrespect intended just putting this out there. After you clean the welding area and begin to clamp the panels if you leave a good fat 16th gap for me I get awesome penetration clear through to the bottom of the panels.

So is that why I burned through my sheet metal? I had my speed on 6 trying to spot weld sheet metal an kept burning through. I'll have to try mine on 3. Thanks. I guess using flux core a person has to think backwards, because I thought the wire was not coming out fast enough. But it's just the opposite. The faster the wire, the hotter the weld. Is that right?

Great video, I am going to try this for sure. I have been welding with flux core for a few years (self taught, not a pro by any means) and I prefer the flux core so you don't have to carry the tank around. I was told I can't do sheet metal with flux as it will blow through so you have inspired me to try and if it works you saved me from buying a tank! I will be doing sheet metal on cars this summer so want to make sure the flux will meet my needs.

I use flux core welders on sheet metal. body panels floor pans and so on all the time. I even weld thick steal with one and never have any problems with breaking or anything. people who talk bad about flux core welder just dont know how to use them and prob dont know as much about welding as they claim!!
@crpth1
@crpth1 6 лет назад
Scott Sawyer - Flux core work perfectly well in sheet metal. Blowing trough will happen with most any system not being used in the best way. Honestly the only drawback I find in flux core is the less appealing look of the weld before or after cleaning. In that sense TIG is usually the best. In my case looks are not a major concern. An economical and self contained system like flux core is unbeatable for DIY. ;-)

Thanks for the tips. I have an opportunity to use my friend's Everlast pulse mig welder. I understand the pulsing allows cooler welding just like spot welding a seam. I'm really looking forward to giving it a try.

People are confusing the definition of "spot welding". This is really a butt weld....and not a classic spot weld, which is done with overlapping metal and having the weld penetrate to create a bond between the two pieces of steel.

Thanks for the vid.I need to weld rockers into my 1950 Plymouth with my old Northern Tool 125 flux core welder. I'm not too worried about burning through the car metal, but the 18 gauge panels might be a different story. I will try your method.

You should do fine 18 gauge will weld up good. just keep your volts low and your wire feed turned down low. Thanks for watching more videos coming soon!

Will this work on something as small as a 23gauge sheet metal(0.028" thick)? Is Hobart 0.030" flux core wire about the best to use on this, or something different? Thank you.

+cb U should be able to just keep your welder on low speed. and do it in spots about a inch apart and let cool for few seconds before each weld Im going to make another video on flux welders and how to get a nice strong weld. hope this helps you out . what are you welding on?

It protects the contact tip from spatters and it's useful to maintain constant distance and control over the weld.

Solid wire is more expensive bc you need a gas bottle, but way better than flux cores wire. Way cleaner, less heat

@bungcheese5901
@bungcheese5901 6 лет назад
Aaron W you still wanna use body filler but you're right but with a welder you use alot less filler, dunno if you've ever done drywall work but it's like spackle, you want it as thin as necessary
@drizler
@drizler 6 лет назад
Aaron W Bondo works fine. It’s when its replacing a void area that it falls down. You have to remember that when you’re welding under you’re not helping things by burning off all the paint on the backside of that weld area. Make sure to clean up as best you can , prime paint and undercoat that back area IF you can get at it.

Thanks for posting and explaining the procedure for your application. Very nicely done with the Jobsmart 125. Have one but haven't felt comfortable using it on thin sheet metal. Watching your video shows that it can be done. KP

Great video really helpful, thank you. So if you were doing MIG welding with gas or TIG welding or even stick would you do a continuous bead instead of the spots? Is this mainly because continuous bead usually comes out crappy with fluxcore? Thanks again.
@jonathanyates5198
@jonathanyates5198 3 года назад
Because the metal he is welding is too thin to run a bead. You would not only warp the hell out of it, but you would also burn straight through it

But, as far a floor pans is there that that much of a noticable issue? Because, I was going to try myself on a f100 floor pans.. I'd really perfer not to drop $400- 500 to weld them in.. I already have the flux welder.. I wouldn't attempt on the body itself.. Is it a bad Idea for the pans? Seriously asking..
