When growing a Star Fruit or Carambola Tree in a marginal zone 9b climate, Star fruit tend to produce fruit in Mid winter, which is not Ideal. So I have found a way to push them to fruit in the heat of summer.

Mine has been in the ground for 4 years. The leaves yellow and or fall off in the winter and now it shoots out new growth with tiny flowers that wilt and die. No fruit. I’m in Southern California. Zone 10 a. I keep up with watering and organic compost from time to time.
When was teenager, I dreamed of building a barn sized greenhouse and putting a mobile home inside. Then fill the greenhouse with alll sorts of tropical fruit trees. Kinda garden of eden.! Untill you think of how hot it would be in summer!
Hard to say what issues are going on. I just planted mine in ground like any other tree. Common issues are over watering, nutrient issues etc. When in doubt get another tree and try growing a different way
Interesting video Jeff. So what month do you 'tweak' the branches to try and stimulate flowering and how long after that date do the flower buds hopefully appear ?
I usually do this when the tree is finished leafing back out in late spring. As I mention the tree does get some slight frost damage during colder winters. I think I tweaked the branches back in May and will probably will do so again in August. Still most fruit are set during latte fall , early winter. Those fruit will hang on the tree Dec - march , which is not Ideal
Hi Jeff, how are you? Just one question..can a pineapple fruit grow at any time of the year? That's if you force at a particular time of the year ....say in spring?
