Justin, thank you for always being such an encouragement and guide to get into PT school. I’m currently applying to matriculate in the summer of 2024 and if I’m being very honest, all of the opinions and experiences that I hear from PTs and people on RU-vid get me anxious. You keep me level-headed and hopeful that I will get in. I’ll be sure to take things one day at a time :)
Man you straight up jail broke the INTERVIEW. I’m trying to become an PT right now I’m currently in undergrad and about to apply for extra curricular that will hopefully set me apart this was super helpful BOOM
Gray Overton what up gray!!! These were simple tips on standing out, wait till you see the actually interview tips video that I have in store 🙃 but I’m glad this was helpful for you my man! What’s your major and what extra curricular are you trying to do?
Hey Justin, Thank you for making this awesome video for the DPT school application. I have an interview with Azusa pacific university's DPT program on September 16th, 2020, and I will definitely use the tips from the videos. Also, I've been watching all your videos of your experience at Azusa. You're awesome!
Thank you so much for creating this channel and all of these amazing videos! Your positivity and insights have only made me look even more forward to becoming a physical therapist. I'm starting my first year of college next year but I'm watching these videos so I can be prepared for the future, even though its a while away. Hopefully wrestling in college will make me stand out as an applicant when it comes time for DPT school! Thank you again!
Ronald Massari whats up Ronald!! Yes that’s amaZing you chose to go PT. it’s such a fun journey. I also wrested myself (high school not college) and I feel like it has helped me I’m even in my PT Practice, especially with my manual therapy skills. You’ll love it!!
@@drjustinleedpt Thanks for the reply! That's awesome that you also wrestled! Can't wait to get started on this path. Thanks for the amazing videos and I will be tuning in to the Vlog channel as well!
Saved this video!! Such good tips! I’ve called programs on the phone prior to applications, but I will definitely use all of these tips after completing my applications this fall .
@@drjustinleedpt Yes! I will definitely stay in contact. I still have a prerequisite this summer to do and my GRE exam this August, so crossing my fingers everything goes well !! This process is both exciting but makes me so nervous. Another question is how soon did you ask for letters of recommendation? The portal to apply to pt schools doesn't open until June 17th, but should I start emailing professors now? and PTs I have worked with? The earliest deadline I am looking at is late December.
stefanie hernandez-mendez NICE!!! You have everything all lined up, which is soooooo awesome! You’re doing it right! I would recommend giving your professors/PT about 2-3 months before it’s due (and actually give them a little earlier due date just in case they don’t write it in time) so if you want to have everything ready by Dec 1, I would ask them in in Sept/Oct and tell them it’s due Nov 15. That way, if they forget, you can still have some time to ask them again
Caro Rodriguez you should check out this video. I feel it is fitting for your situation right now ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G76MNIiUkVc.html
Tayler Ahnee thanks Taylor! That’s awesome!!! Which program is it?? And yeah man, would love to share with you! Have you seen my dpt vlogs? That shares a lot about my school life
@@drjustinleedpt I will definitely check those out! The program is at AT Still University in Mesa, Arizona. I'm really focusing on getting myself into the right state of mind before I have my interview, and then looking ahead and preparing for what the actual schooling will look like. I appreciate you sharing your experiences!
Tayler Ahnee dude I actually just make a video with a student representing AT STILL! it’s a series I created called Student Speaks. Here’s the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PJndVBVVLz0.html it think this could help your interview since he talks about his student experience. Might give you some insight... never know!
Hey, I have an interview with APU's DPT program this Friday! This is definitely my top choice for PT school and was wondering if you had other tips for their program specifically? Also was wondering what you wore to the interview? I feel like a suit is most professional, but its about 100 degrees everyday lol, thank you!!
What’s good Spencer!! Best of luck with the interview! I actually might be around that day. I would definitely wear a suit. You want to communicate that you’re serious about this program. Be on top of your non verbal communication (eye contact, smile, posture, etc) they look at all that too! Being sincere is the best way to go. Be yourself and be respectful. They already know you’re smart. You’ve proven that already. Now let your personality shine and show them who Spencer motha freaken Todd is!! Haha Also, if you haven’t, I would watch this video to get a little more insight on “standing out” ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pkq9rtoA_xc.html since my experience is from APU, these are tricks I learned that helped. GOOD LUCK! And say hi if I see you brotha!
Dude this is perfect timing. Have you had a chance to check out my online course teaching you what steps you need to take to get accepted into PT school the fastest and most cost effective? I really believe it will benefit you! justin-s-school-279b.thinkific.com/courses/DPTschool
I was purchasing your guideline which you have mentioned here, it shows $27 but at the end it charged for $49 . Why? What’s the reason for this conflict?
@@leahpacarro4722 Great questions! Unless you needed specific questions answered for the interview... then no. Which program did you get an interview with? Id love to talk to you more about how you can stand out!!! EMAIL ME!!!! (: liftforchange@gmail.com
How long is your PT program 3 years or 4? Can you work part- time , say 10 - 15 hrs a week while in school on weekends? Can you also get grad plus loans while in PT program to help pay for housing.... ? So what I learned in this video - take a class in communication and leadership and be professional, personal and do the duggie on the way out of your interview....
Jeff Meisner my program is 3 years (that’s typical. Some are 2 years) I worked part time 10-15 hours throughout my dpt school as a fitness coach and some classmates worked on weekends as well. Yes you can take out loans to cover your entire program and more for housing/transportation/etc. and yes I’m glad you learned the key major points! Especially doing the duggie on the way out. Hahahaaaaa
@@jeffmeisner8976 You can find my GPA score in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HD3xFKHMv7E.html and also my GRE scores were just enough to pass the minimum requirement
hi! I’m 15 and exploring different careers and I was interested in physical therapy. I think it is something I would like and I’ve been doing some research but it’s also a little hard on where to start with what majors to take in college, which DPT schools to take into account, honestly I’m just a little lost on the pathway to becoming a PT i was just wondering if you had any videos regarding how to start and such thank you!
YESSS IM SO GLAD YOU ASKED ME THIS!! SoI actually have a video on the basics of what physical therapy is (find here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aHiRVRuZu4I.html ) and I actually have an online course that basically tells you step by step on what you need to know to get accepted into DPT school (find here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z3uuEYdTRAY.html ) If you have any questions after looking at those recourses, feel free to reach out! I remember when I was in your shoes... so lost.. I CAN HELP!
Depends on your schedule. Ideally a day or 2 after but if your schedule doesn’t allow it, you can deliver it a couple hours later. That’s what I did for my residency interview
Hey man surely u do some skype video calls or something ? Im actually a pre med student considering to do physiotherapist and then try for medicine again at the end of my degree. Im very much into strength training, biomechanics etc so like naturally I pick up concepts related to PT stuff quite well. If maybe we could have a chat over this stuff and talk about how life is as a PT in the state vs New Zealand would be cool and awesome!
Hello to New Zealand, from USA! How’s it going Faizan?? Yeeee man having that training background will get you sooooo far in this field! Yeah I’m down for a vchat. What’s your availability like? Shoot me an email or DM on IG
Very helpful video, any recommendations for applicants whose cumulative undergrad GPA is below 3.0 (2.9)? Have some stains from 2 years of a previous major(mech engineering) that I could not get removed from transcripts. Thank you!
Carter McDonald well first off, the science/prereq GPA is the most important, not your overall. But... it still good to try to boost that as much as possible! If you got good grades with your prerequisites/science, the school will recognize that you took an unwanted previous major course. You know?
I would advise kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics, or anything related in that field. If your college does not have that, something like health science or biology is good too. Your best bet would be to choose a major that you’re interested in learning, but also has the most courses that also fulfill the prerequisites for pt school. Does that make sense?
Check this video out. There are a lot of tips where you can merge these and from this video together ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aJ8EEkUqZoo.html
@@jeffmeisner8976 I only applied to 1 program and got into 1 program. Hardest undergrad course was Chem 2/any psychology class. In DPT school, definitely neuro courses
I would follow up once and tell them thank you for the interview and for the opportunity and see what the status of your application is. If they gave you a deadline as to when they were going to tell you the results, I would wait until that time. But once that time has passed, send them another email and call.
Organize Your Life I did both! I went to university then dropped out then community college. Took some online classes. Then transferred to university again. I got my prerequisites along the way but most of them at APU.
Organize Your Life if I had a choice, I would try to get most of the done at a CC. if possible. It’s super impacted so it’s hard but that’s what I would have done
Tamika Jones talk to the programs youre interested in to see their stance on prerequisites being at CC. i am a transfer student (took first two years at CC, so all my prereqs) and the program i’m interested in wants me to retake them at a four year university to “prove i can take upper level science classes”, even though i have had a 3.8 gpa at CC and 4.0 in the last two years of my degree which is exercise science. so talk with the admissions at the programs you like
Danielle Ho-Vuong I waited a day to give it to them. But I would recommend 1-7 days after. It’s a little strange to get a thank you card right after the interview. If it’s not possible right after due to traveling, you can always either mail or email! But definitely follow up with a thank you
Danielle Ho-Vuong also, if you have concerns about the interview, I discuss the interview process, 20 dpt interview questions, and tips and strategies to make the biggest impact as an applicant in my online course that I just created! I would recommend if that’s what you’re searching for justin-s-school-279b.thinkific.com/courses/DPTschool let me know if you have questions Danielle!
when did u do hand written card right after interview? or later date and im definetly the type to do this however do the "kiss ass" or thought of disingenuous intention scare you from doing this
I would recommend bring the card in the next day if that is possible. If not, an email to those specific professors is great too (a day after your interview). I wouldn't fill the card/email with a much of kiss ass things but more professional like "thank you for your time, etc." It is just another touch point to get your name into their minds
Great question. Across the next several weeks I’m coming out with interview videos for the PT school interview. You wouldn’t want to miss these topics!! I would suggest you turn on the notifications bell from my channel so know when I release the video
Ryan Fusselman Have you looked into my online course? I have a ton of interview tips and very practical applications that you can use starting today if you wanted to interview for not only DPT school but also for any job
Ryan Fusselman that’s awesome!!! So what tips were you looking for? It would be good to know so I could add it in there if it wasn’t covered in the course. But thank you for purchasing the course!!!! I APPRECIATE IT!!
