Nice videos about your Yaris, I‘ve been following you for a couple of months. One question about the auto hold feature: do you have to reactivate the button for every drive or if u press it once it will stay activated until u turn it manually off? The Yaris is going to be my first car, can’t wait for it! 😊 Greetings from Germany and keep posting stuff about the Yaris :)
I’ve never used N over the years when running the earlier version of the Yaris hybrid, for that reason (they mention it in the user guides). I think it’s only there because of old fashioned transmission requirements. It maybe that it will warn you not to leave it in N after a while, if you’re sitting in a queue with it left in that mode, though.
yes N is a thing from the past , if people have driven automatic before they are used to it being their but it serves no purpose in a hybrid transmission , yes the car will flash a warning message and also beep at you to tell you your hybrid battery is getting lower than it likes
I think it’s also for car washes (at least for some in Germany). There you have to drive over a certain threshold, like a rolling cylinder which will move the car through the washing machines. There you car has to be in neutral of course.
Love the tips. Just for clarification, you mean when engine is running?? That is, if engine is off whilst in drive, how can battery be charging, I'm a bit confused.
When the car is in D or B or P the motor generators in the transmission are capable of charging the battery, the computer will know when to charge and turn the engine on and off as required, the issue is when in neutral/ n there’s no connection between hybrid battery and motor generators as the engine is now disconnected from them and can’t charge the hybrid battery Luckily Toyota have built a fail safe into the system, the hybrid battery will drain to a certain percentage and the computer will give a message on the screen and an audio alarm to get your attention and tell you to select one of the other 3 gears so it can recharge the hybrid battery Hopefully this is helpful
@@paul_nwsxs Ah, yes that's really helpful, I didn't realise in neutral, the engine wont automatically kick in. Awaiting new yaris delivery (design spec) end March. Enjoying your videos.
Yes anything that’s electronic will draw current and eventually drain a battery, luckily Toyota has thought about people using N (neutral) for a period of time and the car will warn you at a certain battery percentage to select another position on the gear selector so that the car can charge the hybrid battery back up
sometimesq on my Yaris 2021, shifting from R to P and from P to D is a litle bit "hard" i mean - requires more forse than normal and isnt soft. Could you advice on this?
Thanks for your comment, yes I have experience exactly your concern and had totally forgotten about the issue as I figured it out early in my hybrid driving experience I will make a video on the concern and explain how I work around it Does your car have normal handbrake or electric parking brakes ? Thanks for reminding me about the problem , much appreciated
do you know how to put a dead hybrid in to neutral as when they stop or have no power , gear selector can not be moved without pressing the lock out button
@@paul_nwsxs In the Owners_Manual_Europe_M52M10_en it describes how to do that, using a screwdriver (with some sketches I can’t copy into here). It’s on sheets 180 & 81 (pages 178,79). Note that one can’t tow a hybrid with the front wheels on the ground, except for short low speed moves, on account of it not being possible to disconnect the traction motor. It would damage the whole system, being a permanent magnet motor!
