I love train travel. I grew up in Ottawa and it was convenient to travel by VIA Rail to Kingston, Belleville and Toronto visiting friends etc. Took the train from Edmonton to Ottawa with just a seat. Jill, you would be fine in a berth😊

We're from a small town along Georgian Bay Ontario and planning on taking the Go Train from Barrie to Toronto, Via Rail to Montreal and Greyhound bus to Boston soon. And yes, the MS Volendam to Montreal, and the train back to Toronto. The ship you mentioned for your next cruise housed hubby during his military tour of duty during the Vancouver Olympics. I was so jealous of the pictures he would send on Facebook. With our Have it All package, we did book the Pinnacle Grill for our 39th anniversary (first night on board).

Seen a few of your videos and now decided to subscribe. Years ago it was easier to find a spot without a crowd. Live in NYC and don't like crowds. Saw some videos about your trip on the Volendam. When I was in the Immigration Museum in Halifax I went from coast to coast in about seven minutes. Don't like to cruise in June, July, or August. Too many cruises and children. Bar Harbor might be nice, but, would like to go back to Portland. Peggy's Cove was very nice. Don't like crowds on or off a cruise ship. Like the shoulder seasons. Like Holland America, but, they no longer cruise out of NYC. Like to eat at the MDR. Depends on if you want to stay on the ship or go ashore. Shoulder season is the best time to cruise. Like Carnival, had many good cruises with them.

I just watched the replay, great advice about how to avoid the crowds. We did a 14 days (Athens to Rome) in may and had fantastic wether. No rain, not too hot or too cold, just perfect. That is my favorite time of the year to travel,.

Great conversation pertIning to cruising and crowds. Took two grandkids on their break on Wonder of the seas and never again. Kids runining amuck all day and all night. Give me small quite ships everytime.

Brian from Montreal here. We have been sailing exclusively on HAL since 2015. Niew Amsterdamn and Koningsdamn are big enough for us. Glad you enjoyed the Canada-New England cruise. We almost book that same date.

Retire where your family Lives-Grandchildren are the best-as a fellow Canadian I do not need hot weather but not winter or the summer heat and humidity. Vancouver was terrific for our disembarkation

Watching partly on a replay. "bruce & tawnee untethered" we are also going on the HAL Zuiderdam in less than 3 weeks for the North Atlantic ("Viking Passage") crossing. We are looking forward to this cruise as it checks quite a few bucket list items. Hope to meet several of those following some of our favorite cruise RU-vidrs.

@@OutOfBounds777 We have several non-HAL excursions on the first half, including the Golden Circle in Reykjavik. Nothing in Greenland, and then HAL excursions for the Northern Canada/U.S. stretch of the cruise. We normally don't do so many excursions, but we probably won't be back.

@CruisingCanucks we're going to a gathering event in a few weeks and there's her second Con next year. I was going to miss it because we don't get back from Paul & Carole's cruise until the Saturday but I've been persuaded! I've been told I have to appear in a tuxedo at some point as I mentioned having to buy one for the Princess and Cunard cruises we have booked.

We found many of our HAL cruises were similar in price to lines like Carnival and less than RCL and Celebrity. When you add the Have It All then it beat all other lines (except maybe Marella) for price on an all inclusive experience.
