Tissot's PRX 35mm + Why Can Smaller Watches Be Better?

A Discussion around the Tissot PRX 35MM and Why Smaller Watches can be Better. How has this collection become such a success? Where every brand under the sun has adopted this approach of creating an integrated bracelet sports watch, Tissot has achieved by not only calling on a past design but offering a far more accessible option with an excellent movement at a great price, now in an even smaller size. Instead of following the trends and trying to boost prices of their product, their ultimate success has come from listening to feedback and creating an excellent, well-rounded product.

Why does the Tissot PRX continue to be a Success? Let me know your thoughts 🥃
@HRM.H
@HRM.H 11 месяцев назад
I never undertood the PRX's appeal to begin with. To me, it just looks like a cookiecutter integrated bracelet design with non articating endlinks. And it has a movement renown for premature escapement wear. Swatch used nylon plastic for the escapement, instead of silicium or alloy, which has resulted in countless movements wearing out prematurely. Swatch has known about this issue since 2017, but keeps using the movement..
@turnbasedtoddy7664
@turnbasedtoddy7664 11 месяцев назад
@@HRM.Hlthough I have heard that I don’t know one person that has ever had a problem with the conposit escapement and I know alot of watch people. Also I don’t even think I’v seen a youtube video or anything of someone complaining about it. I think this is one of those things where people hear something and it just continues to spread with no real reason. Not saying that it hasn’t happened a few times but it is most defiantly over exaggerated.

It captures the essence of watch making and design. It has a beautiful waffle pattern dial, an integrated bracelet, wears comfortably on the wrist, 80 hours of power reserve, and is so affordable! My first choice was the Rolex OP, but after giving up on an AD ever selling me one, and grey market prices being ridiculously expensive for a basic watch, along came the PRX and captured my heart.

@@turnbasedtoddy7664no, its a real issue which dozens of watchmakers have encountered already. They used nylon plastic, not scilicium... scilicium wouldve been a improvement, nylon is a HUGE downgrade. When you consider Hamilton uses the EXACT same movement, but with a non magnetic alloy escapement, for the same price as the PRX... Tissot is cheaping out in hopes people will get their watches serviced through them and generate another form of income. Swatch doesnt supply any watchmaker outside of their own repairfacilities with parts for the C07 movements, making them impossible to maintain if you cant 3D print your own palletfork or escapementwheel.

Size is perfect. What I don't get is everyone coming in to say mens watches are trending too small seem to completely forget the fact that there are a plethora of larger cases to choose from. There is literally a 40mm PRX to be had. I have modest wrists and it's hard for me to pull off 40mm cases with 47mm+ lug to lug (as much as I love some of them). I think smaller sizes are great for providing options. Once upon a time, MEN wore 32mm field watches and didn't complain about it.

Well said. Brands offering different sizes can only be good for all. Those with average wrists get the best of both worlds if they can wear smaller and bigger watches. Well done Tissot for this addition to a great reissue. Please no complaints about watches for girl sized wrists from the 8/9 inch wrist brigade, especially if that wrist size has been enhanced by steroids or 200 pounds excess body fat. 😉

Well done video and critique as always. I think the PRX needs the small size to look “right.” The 40 looks fine in photos but always seemed a bit off to me in person. Then I saw the full “gold” version in 35mm and thought it looked like such a fun and proportionate piece. There’s other watches I would buy in the PRX price range that suit my desires and style better but sometimes I think I should just take a flyer on a PRX. I fear I’d end up not wearing it much though.

@borassictime918

The reason you note for why dive watches have always been bigger certainly *used* to be true, but which diver depends on a dive watch today? The closest 99.9% of dive watches get to the ocean is the glass of water on the estate agent’s desk. Perhaps that’s why the BB54 has made such a splash, if you pardon my pun. The realisation that a 37mm diver is not only ‘original’, but also hugely comfortable as well as practical for many more dress styles (ie with sleeves as well as without). Much of this holds for integrated-bracelet watches also, with the added factor that those with smaller wrists can actually wear the smaller size. Those with large wrists *could* wear any size watch, no matter how small, if they have the confidence so to do. But yeah size is, and always will be, watch enthusiasts’ favourite topic to argue about 😂
@alfieakaronaldog
@alfieakaronaldog 11 месяцев назад
I do not see guys with average wrists doing much arguing lol. Watch manufacturers can make all the smaller watches they want for all I care. I just won’t buy any. I only pray small wrist guys stop whinging on and on about it, buy the watches, and stfu 🤫 Reality is they seem to be obsessed with talking about it 🥱

I always look forward to your videos! One thing I would disagree on is I think a 35 mm watch would look just fine on a 9 inch wrist. Actually smaller 34-36, maybe 38, watches are the classic, all time norm for the average gentleman. Large watches are in fact a trend. As with all trends, eventually it dries out and people start appreciating again the convenience and casual elegance of smaller watches. People that promote larger watches simply because "the bigger I can fit, the better" don't realize that a watch is a jewelry, a fashion accessory, and as such the bracelet or strap is part of it and is to be appreciated when looking at the piece from the top, and not just the dial. That's why, from a classic fashion standpoint, a smaller watch provide that element of casual elegance and taste, because when seeing from the top you can appreciate the dial, but also how it blends in to the bracelet very smoothly, as a bracelet should be. I respect everybody that might think different, but that's how it should be unless you have a bigger wrist than average (7.50+ inch), obviously, or if you are an active sports enthusiast, diver, etc.

I comment less to comments on watch videos about "it's too big", or "too small", or "lugs are too long". I've always suggested that people try this things on first if they like the watch that might be a different perceived dimension. As you state the style of the watch will have some impact, bezel thickness, case material and colour can all have an impact. Longer lugs may not be an issue if they drape down can also make a difference. Anyway I'm more than happy with my larger PM80 PRX but I would also like to try the 35 at some point.

I see it differently. I remember the 70s and 80s when nobody wore huge, colossal watches. Aside from the Pop Swatch, oversized "UFO" watches were not common back then. The current trend towards smaller watches feels like a return to normalcy, moving away from the recent years where ostentatious, "look-at-me" designs dominated the horology world. This shift represents a welcome return to subtlety and refinement. I have worn 44mm watches, in fact, I still have one. But nowadays my three favorite watches are 32mm, 34, and 35mm. Respectfully, I dont find the 35 to be well proportioned. The 40 looks and feels slimmer due to the larger diameter. The white date window fades into the dial as it is relatively small on the larger dial. The bezel frames the dial but doesn't feel like a thick Explorer-like bezel. The size of the squares in the tapisserie dial feels more well proportioned on the 40 than the 35. When I saw the 35mm PRX Powermatic, I got an "uncanny valley"esque feeling and this is why.

I hope they introduce a mid size. To my taste the 35mm is for a less than 6.5in wrist and the 40mm would work better above a 7.5in wrist. Leaving a massive middle ground of average sized wrists that the prx doesnt really work that well for.

The trend now goes to smaller watches. But a size doesn't mean everything. I have 35mm and 36mm watches, and the size is great on my wrist (I have quite a small wrist, 17cm, or 6.7"). I have 40mm or 42mm watches, and it fits me. But I have tried the 35mm PRX, and it seems quite small, too small for me, if I compare with my 40mm Tissot PRX. It's subjective. The way a watch looks is as important of its real size.

It’s an impressive watch but I don’t understand why there is no option for on the fly adjustment, it appears to be style over function and that’s what annoys me. I think they are still popular because they keep releasing interesting options. I agree a midsize would be very good but I think the full lume dial is my current favourite.

Quick adjustment makes such a difference today, I guess it has to do with the types of closures they're using (double deployant butterfly) I doubt that will ever change because of price (and other factors) - but it's one helluva drawback with most integrated bracelet models unless we're look at the standouts like the VC Overseas & Lange Odysseus 😉

I recently purchased a limited edition Seiko 5 with the Snoopy dial. It’s 36mm and is about as small as a watch can go on my 7” wrist without looking tiny. So this 35mm would just be too small for me. But a great size for a lady’s or skinny man’s wrist.

Surely all watch guys should feel it’s great that watches are difficult sizes and people have different preferences. Thing is that the call for smaller watches seems to come largely from unhinged twisted individuals with chips on their shoulders. Sales figures of all these new small pieces would be interesting to know. You have to factor in that lots of sheep will just buy what they are told to, rather than making their own mind up though.
@salvadorHombre

The Rolex Explorer 40 was brought back after just a year of being discontinued. I think that says all you need to know about the apparent "small watch trend". The small watch crowd believes everyone is going to be rocking 36mm and below watches. This belief is bogus. More sizes of watches means more options for people with different sized wrists. It doesn't mean that small watches are going to take over the industry.

Fully! 35mm is absolutely right, for this watch. People need to stop polarising themselves into spec silos and consider the thing. What are its proportions, its colour, its material... its use? What will you wear it with? How will you wear it? A 35mm PRX is so right (and so good), as is a 52 Tuna, a 39 Seamaster 300, 45 Fifty Fathoms, a 42 Speedy, a medium Santos, a 36 Explorer.... Rarely does upsizing a period design work. Rolex worked hard at it and had success with the DJ41 (mainly 'cos it ain't 41..!), but less with the Sub or 'Dweller.
