That's so terrifying to think about, imagine hanging on to the ship as it sinks, hearing the rush of the water come closer and closer but unable to see. I think I would give myself a stress induced heart attack and die sooner
It wasn't completely pitch black as it was a clear night. They would have been able to see somewhat. Some survivors in the lifeboats reported seeing the ship split in two.
When Rose looks off to her right at the man dressed in white, she is looking at the ship's chief baker - Charles Joughin. At this moment, Joughin would have been completely shitfaced as he had downed an entire bottle of liquor that night while Titanic slowly sank. He was the last survivor to leave the Titanic. When the ship sank he somehow didn't get pulled under with it, treaded water for two hours, before being picked up by Second Officer Charles Lightoller's boat at daybreak. He credited his survival in the icy cold water to being drunk.
This part of the movie never fails in giving me chills all over my body. Doesn't matter if I already saw this a thousand times, it's just incredible. To watch it in 3D back in the theaters in 2017 was an amazing experience.
@@Lizz85257 well it's not real, remember it's acting.I know that it's based on a real story but it's still not real and I'm sure that it was worse than that
Wait it wasn't real????? I thought they made a time machine and went to the Titanic and started recording!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW 😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
Honestly, in my opinion, Titanic was the last grand classic of Hollywood of the 20th Century. Everything in this movie screams big proportions. James Cameron is a genius, he brought Titanic to life in all its glory and tragedy. The costumes, the soundtrack, the special effects. This movie is a jewel in movie history. It is a hell of an achievement in filmmaking. In case some of you don't know, the movie was the biggest box office sucess in 1997 and beggining of 1998 and increased people searching for the history of the ship back at the time. A movie that won peoples hearts all around the globe, 11 Academy Awards and a very special place in popular culture. Just incredible. Thank you, James
In real life the stars wouldn't move when the ship is sinking. When you're driving, the moon & stars doesn't move behind because they're so far away. In a way that's terrifying too...space is so big that we hardly matter.
The stern section still had pockets of air trapped within it as it sank, which crushed and tore it apart further as it sank to the bottom. That's what we're hearing, the hull shrieking and groaning from distortion.
I remember watching this in theatres as a child; seeing this... this exact moment at 0:49-0:50 when it's exactly vertical to the ocean it's sinking into made me half sick and scared me so much, I remember hiding in my mom's side and asking her if it was real. She simply patted my head and replied, "It was, sweetie. But not anymore." When I asked why, her response was, "Because it's at the bottom of the Atlantic, and it's been at the bottom of the Atlantic for decades." "It was real?" "Yes, sweetie, it was, sadly."
Wait..............YOUR MUM BROUGHT YOU TO THE THEATERS TO WATCH THIS!?!?!?!?!? WHAT ABOUT THE "INSIDE THE CAR" SCENE AND THE "NAKED ROSE DRAWING" SCENE?!?!?!? D:
I can't remember the 1st time a saw this movie but I got addicted. I'm a kid and am somehow allowed to watch those "inappropriate" scenes. Mainly because I watch the movie without them knowing.
@@xlisha1997x Oh i watched this when i was a kid too... Twice in a theater and one in home. There wasn't a problem, i didn't understand sht. But it ended up becoming my favourite movie even though I'm a guy and i was obsessed with Titanic and the ships of his era for years. Now i don't consider modern ships to be more beautiful than these majestic monsters of that time...
The screeching and groaning of the metal as it is subjected to tremendous stresses is almost as haunting as the screams of the doomed victims, like the ship herself is alive and screaming in agony as she's torn apart.
This is certainly one of the greatest scenes in cinema history ever you can just feel pure terror yourself as well as Roses face and eyes feels like the whole theatre are on the ship its so spine chiling
@@slapshot68literaly jump will not change it. The jump will last like 2 seconds and there is no diference, they would be sucked when they fall again on the water. And of course they tried their best to stay away from the water because it was freezing on inhuman levels.
Knowing that freezing ice water is about to submerge you is one of the most terrifying dreadful thoughts and it doesn’t matter how many times you see this scene, the dread will always take hold of you like the first time.
The baker (the guy all in white that Rose makes brief eye contact with), was a real survivor who survived being in the water for three hours, supposedly because he drank liquor right beforehand and also didn't allow his head to get wet. He was the last person on the ship as it went down. He was not sucked under (his head did not go under).
@@Firemarioflower Yes, two hours before he found a capsized collapsible lifeboat to cling to and then another half an hour until he got fished out of the water for real. What a mad story either way!
He hadn't any clock to say how much time exactly he spend in water. But in the water with that temperature you can't survive more than half of hour. If you spent only 15 minutes in that water, it might feel like you spend an hour because it is VERY cold and painful.
@@TheConorsmithusa although Jougin said he was the only one hanging off the back like that, so having others and Jack and Rose is inaccurate. Although he was shitfaced, so maybe there really were others.
@@andrewli6606well Jack and Rose weren’t anywhere on the ship. They don’t exist Looked like about two other people on there also…maybe Cameron just believed out of 1500 people, someone else would have copied Joughin’s actions. And yeah lol…he was legless
This happens today, at this exactly moment, 112 years ago. Today is a monday, just like in the morning of the 15 day of april, 1912. Its 02: 24 now. Oh man. I wish good night to all, and salvation for those who had no grave but the sea.
If you watch the deleted scenes, it explains why Rose looks at that blonde woman holding on before she falls. She is Helga, Fabrizio‘s love interest. That whole storyline was cut out the final edit.
What scares me is knowing the stern contained air pockets where passengers still inside enjoyed a few hundred feet of metal moaning and groaning until it finally imploded. Can you imagine such a trip inside? Possibly even a few thousand feet trapped inside alive until the implosion. At least the actual implosion ended their agony. I hope all the air was gone before hitting bottom. At 75 mph thats got to be horrifying. Survivors said after a minute they heard the sound of a large explosion under the waves. So atv75 mph time 60 seconds, how far down was it? At 31.5 meters at 70 mph I calculate roughly 7,200 feet. Damn. That's half way to the bottom nearly.
@EZK's Entertainment Zone When TItanic went under , she was COMPLETELY SUNK, meaning totally filled with water and doesn't matter bow or stern, how could air still be in their when on the bottom ?
Love how Cameron actually added accuracy to the story. The man on the other side of the rail that Kate Winslet peers that before the stern slowly descended, was an actual person who actually was in that same position on the port side. He was a chef and he purposely got shit faced off of whiskey and schnapps before falling into the water. He was saved.
*Little Known Fact:* The man holding onto the stern railing before falling to his death at 1:07 is the same master-of-arms who handcuffed Jack at the beginning of the movie and to the pipe near the beginning of the sinking in the cabin.
Watching this makes me think about the scene with the old couple and the mother and children and it’s horrific too think that they didn’t die peacefully in their beds!
The old couple are supposed to be Ida and Isador Straus. He refused to get onto the lifeboat because there were still women and children on board, and she couldn't leave her husband behind. So, she stayed on the ship with her husband. But they both made sure their maid took the wife's spot.
Talking about the special effects, some of the people falling might look a little too "slow-moving" by today's standards. But here's where the movie excels: the crafting of these scenes feels so real, touchable and authentic you can't help but feel like you're there, with all those unfortunate passengers. Titanic might have a very cliché love story and characters (I know, there's a strong analysis about the parallelism between the disaster of the Titanic and the "sinking" of high society at the end of the Belle Epoque, but it's the love story I was talking about), BUT in my opinion it's all the technical achiements that made this movie so great. Without them, you wouldn't feel so invested. Yes the characters are OK but without all the perfect composition and reconstruction of the events of those days, they'd look just like a standard bunch of characters from a standard period drama movie. Cameron knew how to make you care for them through setting, pacing, reconstruction and dramatic representation. Titanic is not one of my favourite movies. Personally I still consider the love story to be nice yet very cliché, plus the movie suffers of some gimmicks clearly intended to make the dynamics and the characters "closer" to the '90s audience and their tastes. But the reconstruction of the period and the sinking is one of the highest succeded goals in movie history. (too bad I can't be as enthusiast with Avatar, but that's another story...)
Semi cliche but if you don’t get emotional or invested in the story and how it plays on the heart strings then you’re just cold hearted lol. This film makes me cry every time I watch. Amazing
My grandfather witnessed the tragedy of the titanic with his own eyes, but sadly never made it through.when the ship struck the iceberg he repeatedly yelled out warnings to those around him that the ship was going to sink, but everybody just ignored him.after his final warning, they finally kicked him out of the movie theatre
i remember reading somewhere that hella debris floated back up so: it’s pitch black dark, freezing af, everyone’s screaming loudly (“like crickets being thrown into a fire”), and if you’re in the water near the sinking site, debris would pop back up randomly hitting you from below, causing devastating bodily injury if you weren’t already suffering from painful hypothermia. just one of the most intense torturous nightmares of modern human history. terrible terrible incident
Actually this scene was much more terrifying than the scene shown in the film, in the film there is a slight light in this scene, but in reality when Titanic was sinking it was pitch dark. The heart trembles with fear just thinking about it, how people must have seen this scene in reality . . . . . . . .
When the ship sinks I get this chill in my stomach the ship is gonna sink at 2:30 am . When I hear those people calling for help it just makes me sad .
A touring ship sank in North Japan 5 days ago. 11 found dead, 15 are still missing. Might be inappropriate but I couldn’t help thinking of this scene when I heard the news. Can’t imagine the fear they faced… RIP
This scene gives me absolutely chills down my spine! It’s so terrifying seeing this scene but it’s so well done at the same time!! And that jack dies and rosé survives it’s just crazy!
Anyone else use to hold their breath the same time as Jack and Rose? My sister I would hold our breath just as the ship went down when we were kids -just to see how long we would have last, if we could have the same time as Jack and Rose while they were underwater.. felt like a long time..
