RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic Both died young. The only one of the three sisters that survived until her end of service was RMS Olympic (1911-1934). Britannic never saw service as a Ocean Liner due to the outbreak of ww1. Britannic's construction was near complete in 1914 when war broke out and her interiors were then striped during conversion into a hospital ship. She sank in 1916 when she struck a mine in the Aegean sea.

The wreck is located in the Abyssal plain ( 12,600 feet below sea level) which has low levels of oxygenated water. This slows down the usual processes of decay and prevents most marine organisms from being able to survive there ( ex: shipworm). The only major issue the wreck has is the iron consuming bacteria that is destroying the structure of the wreck. The whistle is made of bronze which is one of the longest lasting metals made by man .
@jaredbailey8237
@jaredbailey8237 3 года назад
@@raymondhutchinson7156 I do wonder something though. Your description sounds well thought out & makes sense. But I wonder how susceptible the bronze would be to salt water & pressure. And if that may have altered the sound slightly.
@raymondhutchinson7156

@@jaredbailey8237 The only thing I can think of that would destroy bronze is if the copper in the bronze reacts to chlorides in soil or in certian bodies of water. These tests were done at fairly low pressure. They only had a shop compresser which could only hit about 150 PSI, but the whistles were designed to blow with more pressure than that. The public sounding, although still with compressed air and not steam, was done at her full operating pressure, so it was a much stronger blow that the crowds heard in 1999. However, these weaker tests are haunting and beautiful and sad. Like Titanic crying out, wanting to see the sun again.

I saw this video two years ago and felt nothing. I was listening for information, I was listening to hear what Titanic sounded like. In James Cameron's book about his 1997 film, he says he went on three dives to Titanic's wreck. He stated that it wasn't until the third dive that he let Titanic speak to him. And he said it made all the difference in the world. I watched this again today. I'm a high school boy. I'm at the age where I'm not supposed to feel anything. I feel no shame saying I cried hearing Titanic's voice. It is a powerful sound. But you can hear her dying. It's as if she gets weaker with each sounding, even though each is louder than the last, you can hear her struggle. Everyone, I beg of you: if you rewatch this, let Titanic in. It will make a world of difference.

It is beautiful to see everyone commenting about the Titanic like she's not just a ship, an object, but a person. An old friend. At the time, she symbolized human supremacy. Humans are capable of everything. If they are not capable of doing something today, they will be able to in the future. Humans created a Queen of the ocean. She was such a beautiful ship. She still is today on her seabed. She is now the guardian of all wrecks that lay in oceans, as a reminder of all the suffering they went through on the day of their death. She had a huge impact when she sank and revolutionized the world of navigation by installing better rules and precautions. Her death was not in vain. She's still so important today. It is beautiful to see people still remembering her and being interested in her. She symbolizes dreams, hopes, ambitions but also death, ice, pain and suffering. Life. To hear her whistles again symbolizes rebirth.

Hearing this man refer to the sound of Titanic's whistles as a "dying sound, or a sound of anguish" really hit home with me. I have been in love with Titanic and her story for the last 34 years and I can never get enough, but the true story didn't really hit home any harder until he referred to the sound of her whistles having been blown almost 100 years later as the sound of dying.

Simply amazing. ! never in my wildest dreams would I think I'd ever hear the haunting sounds of the Titanic's whistles. My hat is off to these men for bringing these whistles back to life. To live all these years after first hearing about the Titanic as a 10 year old is something I'll never unhear and witness. Thank you gentlemen for an experience of a life time. I'm deeply touched .

I heard them live in St. Paul for the event described in the video. I doubt that anyone there cared that they weren’t sounded with steam - their voice was amazingly chilling and moving. People next to me did, indeed, start to cry.

Wonderful! I took my nieces to the Titanic exhibit the day of the sounding. It was amazing to hear the ships whistle. After all those years, I can still see it in my mind. I can only wonder what tonal changes there would be if live steam had been used.

they are! they reverse engineered the whistle sounds using these tests just with the pitch lowered a bit because steam is lower pitch in whistles compared to air, you can hear it in the Britannic Real Time Sinking video

They said they actually are not using it as there is two much of a difference between steam and air. they are using there own custom made steam train whistle

Just imagine that it's April 10th, 1912 and the largest ship in the world is leaving port on her maiden voyage filled with passengers and crew. The quayside is PACKED with people and well-wishers waving. This beautiful man-made structure begins a life of her own and starts to nudge away from the quayside with the help of tugs. Everyone's waving, crying, laughing, smiling, and standing in awe as this beautiful ship sounds her gigantic whistles and she just looks absolutely majestic. She is the sign of her country's achievements, and everyone is proud of her. Then she sinks 4 days later with the loss of 1,503 souls and she is lost forever. The world mourns. Still such a sad story over 110 years later.

In 1977, I got the book "A Night To Remember" and was fascinated with the Titanic ever since. When the Titanic display came to our town I saw the steam whistles, they were just within reach, so I reached up and touched them, making contact with a part of the ship after all those years was a great feeling and something I will always treasure.

Tarn, I'll never forget that day. And yes, most of us were in tears. It was probably one of the most poignant moments in my life. We were honored to be part of the "unofficial crew.". And even though we didn't get the opportunity to touch the whistles, it was still truly an amazing experience. I also remember tromping through the Sub-Zero temperatures following George, our inimitable leader, trying to find that stupid restaurant. LOL. That was truly one of the great moments.

Awesome! I’m so glad they brought them back and restored them. Not to shabby for sitting at the bottom of the sea for a century!. They are the last surviving voices. And they will likely out-live all of us with a little TLC. Cheers.

The RMS Titanic’s whistles are these notes: Bass = G, Mid = C#, Treble = G (octave above Bass G). Diminished intervals like train whistles. The sustained ring of the metal after the whistle test resonates at a B and drops off to an E. It has a tremolo effect as the sound fades. The piano music is played in a nice B-flat minor. Excellent audio. Very well done! R.I.P. all souls on the Titanic and her life boats. May God be with you.

It's a little backwards that the original whistles can be heard with only a little searching, but the replicas being sounded on steam not so much. Thanks for sharing this video.

I was a Board of Trustees member for Titanic International Society. I helped open many Exhibitions and was on the 1998 Expedition for the Big Piece. when It arrived in Boston it was a major part of my life as well. I Knew Tarn for a few years at most of the exhibitions. then the day to hear the Whistles were a big part of my life as well. I will never forget the day when I was there to hear and see this like the thousands of people in St. Paul. it took place in front of the old train station. a day I will always treasure as I have this on tape and film. thanks Tarn for this.
