According to Cameron, the tending vessel said the sub was trying to drop ballast (emergency surfacing) when communication and the locator beacon were lost. The transponder had a separate pressure container and battery, and apparently was destroyed in the violent implosion. At the same time, Cameron learned Monday, undersea sonar picked up the implosion but couldn't locate it. The coast guard was told too, but since they couldn't locate it, they hoped it was unrelated and searched as if they didn't believe it was gone.

The hull of the Titan submersible was made of carbon fiber. It was never capable of reaching even 10,000 ft in depth without critical problems. The fact that most Navy submarines cannot go beyond 4,000 ft should tell you everything you need to know. James Cameron designed his Deepsea Challenger sub out of special syntactic foam, it weighs 11.8 tons, it has 12 thrusters, and Cameron tested it on his own at a depth of 36,000 ft (11,000 meters). I believe his design was also certified. Science should always come before fun prior to taking dangerous adventures.

James Cameron, the Academy Award-winning director of the 1997 film “Titanic” who famously visited the wreckage site dozens of times, appeared on ABC News shortly after news broke of the submersible’s apparent implosion to offer a critical take on OceanGate’s safety protocols. “Deep submergence diving is a mature art,” Cameron said, noting that similar vessels have been rigorously pressure tested due to the threat of implosion. “Many people in the community were very concerned about this sub. And a number of the top players in the deep submergence engineering community even wrote letters to the company saying that what they were doing was too experimental to carry passengers.” “I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night,” Cameron continued. “For a very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded, to take place at the same exact site… I think is just astonishing. It’s really quite surreal."

Specifically the passenger area needed to be spherical not oblong and needed to be made of metal not carbon-composite. After being weakened on previous dives the carbon-composite shattered about halfway down on this dive. He gambled that nothing would go wrong. He lost the gamble and now he and four other people have paid with their lives.

Its tragic these people lost their lives, its even more awful the media used this loss of life as a smokescreen to protect hunter biden! Let's hope someone hasn't intentionally caused this just for a smokescreen to protect the presidents son. We are learning about how low these people are willing to go, let's hope this isn't the case as you don't get much lower than the ocean floor.

This is one of the best videos out there about this incident. Everything about this report is perfect. The delivery, the informative nature, the science behind the incident, and the rescue mission. Kudos to CBC News and this reporter. Professional journalism at its finest.

Why do people keep saying how great this is with so many questions unanswered lmao he didn't talk about the supposed sound coming from the sub and just glossed over why nobody heard the implosion.. why was it not heard

I don't know if you've seen the James Cameron and Bob Ballard interview, but I highly recommend it. I think it was ABC News.

@@AmbitionIsaMust115 Those questions were answered though... They now know the sounds they picked up weren't coming from people in the sub because the sub was already destroyed. They know the sub was already destroyed because it was a violent implosion that destroyed the sub, and that would've created a very violent sound that would've easily been picked up by the sonar, but it wasn't. So those supposed sounds they heard could've been anything, it could've been the destroyed parts drifting into eachother

Wow, you're not particularly smart if you're that impressed by this superficial, not at all scientific "report".
