No matter what you do it's going to sound like a lawn mower, keep it quiet as to not impact those around you. I've owned 50cc scoots for 30 years now, when people can't pick out that it's you coming and going everyday they are much happier.
This thing is quiet compared to the Harleys that go past everyday here. I live on a 50MPH road with constant road noise, so this is nothing special to bug the neighbors and I am mostly on back roads and highways. I'm not in many suburbs and the one that I do visit a friend in... his neighbors have loud Harleys and a loud truck so I'm not as loud as they are.
To me, its seems like the insert makes the sound thinner (loses growl), but is still as loud = not great. But I could be wrong, not easy to get a real impression of noiselevels when it comes to recordings like this.... Greetings from a tmax 2018 dx-owner.
I have the same bike with this same exhaust. Make sure to repack the muffler every 100 grams of weight loss (I check the muffler weight on a scale every 2-3 months). Yoshimura sells kits for this and they have a video showing how to do it. Especially if you're a daily commuter. Because of the high revs on this scoot (I have a racing variator as well by J.Costa) the packing of the muffler tends to burn away much faster than on regular motorcycles.
You lucky dog! Nice Tmax they're harder and harder to come by and the prices have gone up. What's the process did you have to install a fuel tuner or remove the air injection if it has one?
I've seen the TMAX 500 listed for sale before, but never seen another one in person. I've only ever seen 2 TMAX 530s that I recall. They're out there, but definitely not common, at least in my area. It ran mostly OK without a fuel tuner, but I did install one. I will have a video about the whole process with acceleration times at some point.
I like the stock sound, when I was younger, I have had open pipe on my 200cc 4stroke scoot and that was loud, I can imagine what is it like with 500cc :D I mean, it can be cool for short rides, but I could not stand it for 2 straight hours. Do you have in plan to play with ECU now ( air fuel ratio) ?
I said I wouldn't get a pipe when I bought this thing 5 1/2 years ago... but never say never. There is something nice about being inconspicuous for sure though.
I really like it with the Yoshi and no baffle. It makes it more fun to ride IMO and I enjoy knowing there's a chance that someone hears me. The main negative is that I need to wear earplugs on longer rides now. It's not super loud, but it seems like it on the bike.
