I didn't even know kids could compete in the Olympics. Wait, I didn't even know dancing was an Olympic sport. Either way, they definitely should've brought that up in his feud with Kurt Angle. "At least I actually got the gold, and I did it with a broken freakin' neck, Joe"
Yeah. Nash's father died of a heart attack in this late 30s if I remember right. That would've been enough to scare him to thinking he was going to die like his dad did. Triple H had the same medical issue about two years ago and retired a day after his 30th anniversary as a wrestler. It's always good to look after yourself before you do something that could end your life.
Rhyno, like Kanyon, is just one of those guys that was born twenty years too early. They would be ruling the industry if they were in their prime right now.
Roids were outlawed, dude.. You guys keep forgetting that during the 1980s, some parts of the 1990s and early 2000s roids made wrestlers look big, not naturally. @tripleh3b So it sad that wrestlers don't wanna have heartattacks and other health problems before they are 40 years old??

The irony of the fans calling for someone to use the ladder during Ultimate X, when doing so would later actually be declared illegal because it'd be considered cheating. Team 3D would eventually use an actual ladder during an Ultimate X match in 2008, but only after the ref got knocked out.
@@marcohavokkhaos The X Division only ever had a weight limit during the Bischoff/Hogan regime, and that was a hated decision. Otherwise it's a "No Limits" division that's simply about being willing to go above & beyond to win, if need be.
@marcohavokkhaos x division isn't about weight limits. ITS ABOUT NO LIMITS AHHHHHHHHHH Samoa Joe, imo was an X Division wrestler, and the dude was double the size of everyone else
@hakeemfullerton8645, I certainly hope so too, & I'd really love to see him cover more recent TNA events, as well, especially against all odds 2024. That one was a banger, as far as I'm concerned! Also would love to know what Brian thinks of Joe Hendry?
You’ve helped keep me connected to the wrestling industry when I lost interest at times. Now I’m finally going to be helping out with a local wrestling company! Super excited. ❤
@@princeelfangor-sirinial-sh2261 MarkyD123: He’s a wrestling RU-vidr. He’s dubbed David Young “The Master of the Cab Driver Slam”. And Sonny “Don’t Look At My Ass” Siaki. He’s very entertaining and loves older TNA. He’s been branching out and watching other wrestling shows as of late.

@@marcohavokkhaoswould’ve made more sense if you said Joe, liger has had great matches against pretty much every type of wrestler which is telling that he’s a great worker , can’t really say the same about Joe
I was always impressed by Lance Hoyt's ability to do a moonsault despite his size, still thought he should've been the first TNT champion in AEW. TNA for all of the negative stuff that has happened during their existence deserve their flowers, for stuff innovating match types like Ultimate X, keeping the War Games concept going with Lethal Lockdown, King of the Mountain, the X division, and showing that Women's could be taken seriously in North America with the Knockouts division. I'm happy that TNA still has a place in today's wrestling landscape.
@Billy-ot8mk, thank you so much for this comment, & I couldn't agree more!! TNA now has history behind them, being 22 years old, & a massive tape library. Not to mention, Impact has become the 3rd longest running wrestling program, currently on television. Only behind Raw & Smackdown. Speaking of Lockdown, I really wish that ppv would make a comeback! So, what do you think of Joe Hendry?
Agreed. This is when I stopped watching TNA. It was WCW all over again only worse with a lower budget. Jarrett was never a top guy, he just kind of lucked into it in WCW and owned TNA so....yeah. Good mid carder but not top guy.
It was a callback to his days as ECW I remember he was a genuine threat at the time, one of the few times in his career where he was handed his flowers
That Christopher Daniels "half straightjacket throw" is the Fall From Grace (a variant on the Iconoclasm) - i was trying to learn how to use it for my own wrestling moveset, but have since switched to a different variation
@@marcohavokkhaos I would say it was a good concept insofar as it was cool-looking and not overly contrived, which is the low bar I sadly have for TNA match concepts 😂
As a fan who semi-followed TNA, Bound For Glory 2005 was the first pay-per-view that got me invested into the promotion. Because of the nostalgia from this solid PPV, I hope Brian Zane makes "TNJ (Total Nonstop June)" an annual tradition of Wrestling With Wregret. What do you guys think?
@@brandonwilliams18 I wanted to call it "JNA (June's Nonstop Action)" but Brian Zane erased my original comment but whatever. I wanted TNJ and/or "U Can't See May (Cena Month)" to be an annual things on W3.
If you think about it, both of Nash’s stories about Starrcade ‘97 could be true. Marijuana use has long been known to trigger anxiety attacks in some people especially if they’re not prepared for how intense the effects can be (a common problem with edibles). As anyone who’s had an anxiety attack can attest to, if you haven’t experienced the symptoms before they can feel very similar to a heart attack. So it could be Nash took too many edibles, started freaking out, thought there was something wrong with his heart, and wisely checked himself into a hospital.
Especially since there's a family history of heart issues there -- if you have a parent who had a heart attack young, you're encouraged by doctors to always make sure it's not your heart first, so it would be unsurprising if his mind leapt to "am I having a heart attack?"
@@honoratagold Exactly, I believe his father and grandfather both died of heart attacks in their 30s or 40s so Nash has always been hyper-conscious of that.
I was actually at the TV tapings that took place after this show. Ultimate X went on first and Lance Hoyt wrestled twice (first against Abyss then a 6-man tag teaming with Sabu & Hardy). It was my first time seeing or hearing TNA and, as weird as this'll sound, I have to thank Jimmy Hart who was promoting TNA by wandering around Universal Studios with his megaphone to say "come be on TV tonight! Soundstage 21!"
You've built something amazing here through sheer hard work and dedication.. Keep pushing boundaries! -- "The only way to do great work is to love what you do.."
The Raven title change: it actually took place on a Border City Wrestling show (Scott D’Amore’s Indy promotion). The reason the title change happened is because those in charge wanted Jarrett to be champion when impact debuted on Spike TV. Since there were no TNA shows scheduled (they didn’t start their own house show loops until late ‘07/early ‘08), Scott D’Amore booked it on his show, and sent footage to Nashville so they could air it on the first Spike TV Impact.
I was at this show. I ended up staying at the doubletree hotel on Orlando and at one point I was on an elevator with Double J and Rhyno, and they were discussing the changes to the match in front of me and spoiled the finish.
It's actually insane how long Lance Hoyt has been involved in wrestling. I remember him showing up with Curt Hawkins on a random ass SmackDown in 2010 😂
I was at said house show! It was a weird one, because we were booing AMW all night, because Americans, but then they actually "turned heel" doing a run-in for Jarrett, and we...also booed. Just felt like they could've done this elsewhere, namely here.
I remember asking A-1 if he was expecting to be the face against Rhino during that show given the US vs Canada gimmick. He was not. I recall he was the only Canadian not cheered.
@@jeffreymatos9464 We just don't boo Rhino in Windsor, he came up here. Like, I feel like Rhino's honorary Canadian because he worked a ton of Canadian indies.
LMAO, yes. Eddie has gone on to have a stellar career in TNA, becoming a grandslam champion, in the process! I'm also really loving what they're currently doing with him, in the system stable.
The one knock on Elix Skipper was he almost always tried to rush out all his high spots when he needed to be patient and pace it out. Even though he was over with his ability, he couldn't just do much else unlike a Jeff Hardy, RVD, A.J. Styles or Chris Daniels could.
First DVD from TNA I bought. I was at Best But and didn’t see anything WWE and I seen so many names I knew so I gave it a chance. What a change that made.
Glad you mentioed the Ultimate X rematch on Impact not long after, though it's worth noting that they actually changed how the X was hung up in then (and I think going forward to prevent another instance of the X falling) by having a chain link the top two tips of the X together, which was then hung on a clip similarly to how WWE held the MITB briefcases up
When I first moved into my own place at 19, I couldn't afford cable for about two months, and just watched the same 10 DVDs over and over. This ppv was one of them ❤
15:31 Hey Brian at Genesis 2007; Kaz and Christian fought over a “fight for the right” tournament for the #1 contendership for the TNA world title. It’s a ladder match and they’re fighting over a clipboard with the contract stuck to it. Halfway through the match the paper falls off and they continue the match without putting the paper up; so they climb for an empty clipboard and Kaz wins and held up the empty clipboard. TNA TNA TNA TNA
@@AzureRoxe I can remember Edge’s debut, and always thought he should have stuck with the Impaler as a finish. Came off as much more impactful given his height.
@@AzureRoxeone thing good about edges spear I like is that it’s an actual spear, he’s making his body small and “whipping” himself at his opponents, but yeah they look pretty awful sometimes
I was at that BCW show Jarrett won the title from Raven at. It was at the Ciociaro Club where they had my high school graduation. I definitely remember seeing Bolen at BCW shows in the upper card, but I had no idea who he was. Fun fact I've seen A1 working at Costco in Windsor a few times in the last couple months. Dude is still in great shape.
I know Rhino was a last minute decision to be champion but i always wondered why he didnt get more of a run with the title instead of having Jarrett having his own reign of terror that seemed like it would never end
@@brandonpage7087at this time I couldn’t tell you but previous to this Jarret had his reign of terror because he and his investors were kinda terrified of a champion going to wwe as the champ during this time, you gotta remember wwe was scalping all the top talent or trying to at the very least
@@brandonpage7087 well yeah I agree and he definitely could’ve dropped it during this time however early tna had a lot of short term contracts and optional contracts that allowed wrestlers to pretty much quit at any time I believe the main reason for this was to not have to pay out people you fired (could be wrong) and no offense to rhyno because he seems like a great guy but wwe would’ve totally convinced him to break the contract
This era of TNA was pretty great. The top guys they had turned into legends and even the midcard had a bunch of HOF’s too. One of the best eras of TNA.
This era of tna is so special to me. Every single Saturday I watched it because my dad recorded it Thursday nights. Shark Boy, Rhyno, Abyss, Jay Lethal, they all hold special places in my wrestling memory. I love tna.
This was such a fun show to look back on! I didn’t get into TNA until 2007, but found watched 2005 through the Unbreakable match! Hope you do more TNA in the future!
I remember this show like it was yesterday. Absolutely amazing show and as a huge fan of Rhyno, I marked out so hard for him crushing every match that night.
Would I be insane for thinking this is TNA's equivalent to WrestleMania X-Seven? I love this show so much, it was really just _peak_ TNA during its golden era. Might just be me, but I thought it was really solid back-to-back
How has no one in wrestling made The Pounce their finish since Monty’s early retirement? Like I’ve seen people do it as a high spot but it should be a finisher. It’s one of the few moves that hasn’t been done to death in wrestling
This is a special PPV for me because I got this on DVD at the first and only TNA house show I had ever been. Was apart of the Brown Bag special with the Man himself Don West (RIP) selling them. It was such a cool show to get.
I just wanna say Brian, that use of the WXO fuckup "THESE TWO GUYS" made me laugh so hard I nearly choked on my water. Great callback, great bit, really nailed together an already fantastic video for me lol
I remember when I was first getting into TNA, The Naturals were by far my favorite tag team. Perfect team name, great finisher, and two guys that could just go at a high level. To this day I still can’t believe that they didn’t take off.
Every once in a while, you forget how quick and flashy Daniels and Styles were when they were young. They bith matured so well that you forget that they werent always as limited as they are now
Funny, the "LIVE IMPACT ZONE" graphic uses the stencilled typeface best known for its use on RAW IS WAR graphics, whereas "BOUND" and "GLORY" use the typeface for Nitro graphics between 1999 and 2001...
If you like Elix Skipper Brian I recommend watching TNA’s assylum years and their early ESPN/Spike days from 2002-2005 that’s when TNA were pushing elix. He held the tag team titles 3 times with Low Ki and Christopher daniels. Was a pretty solid heel. Had plenty of great matches with daniels as a tag partner (including that hurricarana off the top of the cage you love) and when he turned face he had a great feud with daniels over who the better member of triple X was including a TREMENDOUS match against Daniels for the X division title during Daniels 6 month reign you mentioned in this video in 2005.
The X falling off in the Ultimate X reminded me of the Kazarian/Christian Cage ladder match where they were fighting over a contract, the paper fell of in the final third and so the match turned into them fighting for the clipboard
I was at that show in Windsor Ontario, it was definitely a surprise. That was not actually a TNA House Show, it was under the Border City Wrestling name.
TNA bound for glory 2005 was an amazing PPV i remember this like it was yesterday AMW as heels were awesome I'm so glad brian is reviewing this PPV the team 3D funeral is easily my favorite segment in TNA history i loved gail kim with AMW great review brian.
I remember Chiseled Adonis and InTheClutch ENT reacted to Oh My God wrestling moments and Jeff Hardy’s Swanton Bomb to Abyss was in that compilation. And Chiseled said “Jeff Hardy’s Tailbone Is Hanging On By A Nerve!!!”
This was the first TNA PPV I bought… and it was love at first sight in 05. I had seen them on Fox Sports earlier that year and seen they were moving to Spike. This was a big show for me.
I would love for you to cover the Black scorpion storyline. I remember it very well, the NWA/WCW was my favorite promotion. I remember hoping that the Black scorpion would have turned out to be the ultimate warrior.
I thought exactly the same, no need for the rumble match, should of just made it the winner of the monsters ball. I do wonder if Abyss/Hardy recovered early, so Sabu didn't have to take the pin?
I COULD be wrong, but I think this was the ppv that TNA was building to when Impact first started airing on SpikeTV which was my first experience with them. Looking back they treated The Naturals like a giant deal and AMW like underdogs going into the show which is shocking to me considering that they were gone not all too long after this and AMW is considered legendary. This was also my first exposure to Samoa Joe who is still in my top five even to this day. The more things change, amirite
