In Australia, the Channel 9 ident has nine dots arranged in a 3-by-3 square next to the number 9; in this, it's nine stars arranged in that same pattern next to the number 9 (only it has the letters TNT above the first row of stars).

The song that starts playing at 2:21 is “Epistle to Dippy” by Donovan.

Bonus points for a wobbly version of the Meco Star Wars disco theme towards the end.

reminds me of a friday night movie in the early 1990s on TasTV, 20 minutes of stop, fix and rethread or whatever they tried next and starting for a few seconds before it jammed up again probably about 10 or 15 times this went on, you could imagine the hair tearing of thinking now what do we do until they finally chucked in a different movie.

So it took nearly 2 min to get any stand by music to line and no verbal apology! Ha, appalling! I am guessing that was a film break by the state of the few Bond scenes you can see. Love these station breakdown situations...! (I work in Pres!)

If I had been the station manager way down there in Tasmania, I would have used a slide still of Warner Brother's "Tasmanian Devil" biting a cable in half! Some of the US "Please Stand By" slides did use humor and cartoon drawings in the 60s through 80s. They were just homemade drawings of a technician pulling his hair out or raising is hands and shrugging. Others had someone holding 2 halves of a disconnected cable or 2 legs sticking out of a box with nuts and bolts flying out of it: "Please Stand By, We're working on it!" I only remember seeing these on local channels usually during a movie or local show, not the networks. Sappy elevator music or just plain silence usually accompanied these failures....
