Was the Spanish Inquisition about witches? I thought it was just about persecuting the Jews.

@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick the spanish inquisition wasnt the only inquisition, just the most famous. Regardless, the purpose of the inquisition, to put it simply, is to fuck up anyone that wasnt a catholic christian, and scare catholic christians into never even considering to question their faith. Thats, summed up, pretty much their job. Yes, that includes burning "witches" at a stake. A famous example of that would be Joan of Arc's execution, where she was accused of being a pagan, put in a kangaroo court, and burned at a steak for heresy.

@@gabbo7101 I would amend, however, the burning part. Not because it isn’t true, but because it isn’t the only method. Famously, the American colonies only used hanging to persecute witches because it was cheaper and didn’t waste wood.

@@theoneandonlymichaelmccormick I brought up burning because thats how witches are often executed in pop culture and media, as well as joan of arc being an easy example of not only witch hunting, but also the church blatantly lieing and manipulating the system to justify killing a political prisoner

The best part is how the podcast has gotten continually more insane over time, with three distinct eras: The self explanatory: -Humble Origins The longest and just... most: -Post hostification of Ed Era (Alternatively known as the Crime & Feces era) And the newest of course: -Post witch Era There are also the transitional sub eras, like the tail end of the Post Ed era leading up to the Witch Incident becoming what I call the King of the Hill era, partially because of the paving paradise thumbnail, but mostly because it just has that weird vibe of watching King of the hill as a very young kid and being bombarded with like.... absurdist realism that you can't fully wrap your brain around.

Yeah, this and VVeezer are my fav episodes. I haven't even watched any other ones lol
