We are 3 weeks into the TN turkey season, and I have barely even been in the woods. Work obligations, business travel, farm work, family stuff, & weather have greatly reduced my time hunting this season. Now the weather is getting extremely hot and it seems like we are getting storms almost daily now. In this episode I discuss the challenge that many landowners who hunt must work out…. How do you stay motivated at hunting when you have so many other tasks around the property (even more if you have a garden like us). I am just being transparent in this video as this is something I seriously have been struggling with the past few years, and I have talked to two other landowner hunters who do as well.
Things definitely were easier back when we lived on our tiny 1/3 acre lot and I only had about 1 hour of “yard work” to do every week. Owning property with roughly 2 acres of garden, chickens, & helping with whatever farm chores your parents come up with requires way more time. Then trying to fit it into my schedule with my real job and business travel can be quite a challenge.

Well said. It is a challenge. Even as a retired old fart, I find other needs and obligations still bug me while hunting. Good luck when you get out!

Absolutely! I think it says a lot about a person’s character when you realize that there are other things to be done, and we can’t just put everything else to the side for several weeks while we go hunting. It’s all about finding that balance that works for each of us in our particular circumstances. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the confirmation. Good luck to you this season as well!

Don't be a Debbie downer get out there and hunt! Just kidding I do understand all the chores and such make it hard to find time. I do wish I had enough property to hunt turkey on though lol.

When I was younger I always questioned my dad about why he was always too busy to hunt on or near the farm, but he absolutely loved driving to deer camp in W TN. Now I completely understand. When we were at deer camp that was all we had to think about. Those 4-5 weekends a year at deer camp were pretty special, and I now understand why it was so important to dad. Regarding the turkeys, these are the lowest turkey numbers we have seen around here in 10+ years, even with all of our predator trapping efforts.
