I can honestly say I thought I'd be wasting my time watching this video,but I have to say it was very informative and I've been cleaning and shooting glocks a long time. So thanks for a very good video brother. I was impressed. Thumbs up to you

Hard to believe how many people liked this. After all the editing and hard work I do on the other videos this one turned out to be one of my most popular and all I did was stand there in the kitchen and talk for 20 minutes! Thank you for the feedback and congratulations on owning the "standard" Glock. My 17Gen3 gets a lot of attention because I use it alternately with my G35 for competition. It's bone-stock, too! Very easy gun to shoot well with, by the way.

Any idea about full auto malfunctions? Can too much oil make it malfunction? Having issues with 3 gen 3 9mms going full auto. I thought it was an aftermarket ghost connector but then it done it on a stock OEM gun.

Thanks for the video. On that critical lubrication point. You solved my problem! I could not get from the pic illustration in the manual just exactly what I was supposed to lubricate. But your video showing the actual trigger action and the point where the two metals meet by repeatedly showing the action finally made it crystal clear to me. So much so that I immediate broke out my G23 to lubricate that particular point because I don't think I ever did it right before watching your video. Thanks again!

I've owned a glock for 15 years and have found it just doesn't need to be cleaned so often. I pulled mine out of the box from the factory, ran my barrel cleaning rope through it, loaded up a mag and blasted 15 rounds through it. Put it in my gun locker. Two weeks later I pulled it out, loaded up some mags and fired 500 rounds through it in 2 hours. Put it in my gun locker. Pulled it out a few weeks later, 100 or so rounds, put it in my locker. About a month later I put the glock on the bench and gave it a cursory cleaning... not much residue at all. Glock are just clean shooter and doesn't need to be cleaned that often.

The copper lubricant is Loctite C5-A. Glock stopped using the Tenifer salt process around 2011 because of concern from the EPA, Glock now use gas nitride. Glock owners manual says to lightly lubricate the slide rails not frame rails.
@Hjerte_Verke
@Hjerte_Verke Год назад
That makes logical and practical sense because whatever oil is applied to the short frame rails is basically wiped from the frame rails in the first several mm of recoil travel and not deposited along the entire length of the slide. Lubing the slide rails means it gets applied along the entire length.
@theKGB65
@theKGB65 11 лет назад
The grip angle is one of my favorite aspects of the Glock. With your support thumb pointed at the target the wrist is set at an angle that creates a muzzle-down bias under recoil which allows for fast recovery during rapid fire shooting.

Best 21 minute video Ive seen on this topic! Close up shots on lub are especially informative; just brought home 1st new pistol/gun in 40 years! Bought a Glock 19, gen 3 because I could walk out of the store with it last week! Also bought the wife a Smith & Wesson 9mm M & P Shield. Haven't shot either one yet; racking the Shield is hard for my wife; spring is awfully stiff and tight. Been reading on how to remedy that issue. Hope we didn't make a mistake in buying that gun. Most say run a bunch of rounds thru it but that said, it's still really hard for her. Thanks for this informative video for a new owner after all this time!

Joe M. wife just got her first gen 3 26 glock. She also has problems racking. Am looking at buying her a ring pull that mounts on the back of the slide that she can pull with her finger instead of having to squeeze and pull the slide to rack. After seeing the videos of them I think it may be the answer and maybe yours wife's too. Check it out.
@joem.383
@joem.383 9 лет назад
Jason Hendren Hey Jason...thanks for that info! Since posting that comment we have been to the range several times and now it's not as much of an issue as before. Usually with slide locked back a new fresh mag with bullets ready to go, she just uses the slide release lever on the side. And, we have since bought the S&W M&P .22 Compact for fun and training. It's a copy of the M&P shield only in .22LR. So much easier on her and also a ton of fun to shoot! Cheap .22 ammo (usually on line and not in stores) is less $ compared to 9mm ammo. Both are fun and no regrets!
@janus2059
@janus2059 8 лет назад
I would guess it's a technique issue rather than a strength issue. Almost everyone is physically strong enough to rack the slide (except maybe people with degraded grip strength from advanced arthritis or some disability). I don't know why, but many first time women shooters do have trouble with the slide - but of course there are professional women shooters who can handle all sorts of weapons like the pros they are, even if they are 100 lbs. Maybe it's nervousness being unfamiliar with the process and thinking in the back of the mind that the gun might go off, or it will break - but from what I've seen the issue is how they are trying to rack the slide, not that they aren't strong enough.
@bosun1908
@bosun1908 4 года назад
@@janus2059- Definitely agree w/ that Daniel. If Joe, Jason, their wives do enough searching on the internet, eventually they'll find one or more techniques to help ease their racking, as pre-teens have learned. I have growing hand arthritis but have learned to overcome some pretty stiff spring resistance.

That brass grease is used for hi temp lubrication and it sticks and last a good time I used this often in working with wheels and bearing replacements since the manufacturer says to leave it that means there's a high amount of friction meaning hi potential of wear and tear go buy some and replace it should be more then 10 -15 bucks and will increase life of your gun

Actually, I think the biggest issue/concern would be to have your skin exposed to those powerful solvents because that stuff will go through the skin and get into the blood stream and from there go into the bone marrow and potentially be a very serious problem down the road. My best friend's dad used to strip furniture using his bare hands to work the stripping jell and he ended up dying an agonizing death due to that stuff nailing him later on. Best to use gloves and open a window. Take Care!

Good Vid! As a fairly new shooter I did the typically newbie thing and over oiled a couple of times and really gunked up the firing pin chamber. It took a couple of thorough cleanings to fix that. The drops that come out of the typical oil bottle are too much. Putting a drop on your finger like you showed is much better.

@damon323 Yes, I have a 3rd gen. Glock 22 and I almost mentioned before that you might notice the higher pressure .40 cartridge is more snappy than the slower .45 ACP but I see that was your observation as well. The G22 shows up in a few of my videos with the yellow kydex training barrel (safety). That's the gun that I always use for mag-change and dry fire practice. If you enjoy the .40 then I can already see a Glock 27 in your future; it's just a natural progression, don't try to resist.

Question have u had any issue with dropping the mag in middle of fire ie. Depressing mag release while firing jus wondering and has any shells been getting to your face ?thanks for taking time and possible answer
@jerryragan
@jerryragan 8 лет назад
+Jin Yow Are you right or left handed? As for having brass hit my face,I have not had that issue. If you have issues hitting your mag release when you are shooting... You will notice the indent set your thumb there. If you have large or medium sized hands you might need to place one of the extended back straps so your hand will set right. I am by far not expert but that is what I am thinking. Might want to wait for other responses. That way you get other ideas.

Metal flakes in the action area are typically from the shell casings; very common even in well worn guns.

Charles - I would also appreciate your comments on what was misinformation. I commented above regarding the comment at the end about the cartridge coming up from the mag behind the extractor. I don't think it actually does that. I think the rounds always come up from mag in front of the extractor. What else did you think was in error.

I think this is a very good and informative video for the first time Glock owner / user. The Norwegian armed forces adopted the Glock 17 around 1990, and I have had 2 of them and they really are brilliant guns. I personally clean all of my Glock using oil to remove soot and residues, but I wipe it with a dry cloth in the end and only lubricate according to the Glock manual. I also remove the firing pin and extractor after each shooting and clean these areas as well, leaving them almost dry after removing residues. Great video and good pointers!

Thanks for the tip on the extractor at the end. My CCW is a Shield and I always dropped one in and then put in the full mag to get 9 rounds. I will try to switch to loading one with the mag and then re-top off the mag after that, no point in harming the gun.

It has been a good 45 years since I've fired, cleaned and reloaded weapons of any type. I really appreciate the time you put into this presentation because I vaguely recall what a PIA it was trying to figure out how to properly clean my Astra 600, .30cal M1, etc. "back in the day" without the Internet as a source of info. I can't imagine you left much out. I have yet to decide on the caliber of Glock but more than likely one of 17, 19 or even possibly a 20 and It likely won't be my last.

Just purchased my first Glock 23 Gen 3 in 38 years ! Not disappointed at all shoots great . Only one disappointment it came with ( 2 ) ten round magazines . I tried KCI 13 round magazines. 2 failure's too eject spent shell casing. Maybe a spring problem with a magazine. Great video Sir. Thank you so much.

And don't forget to check the top of the magazine. I was having malfunctions on my G34 and finally noticed a bunch of buildup on the top of the magazine. I just brushed it off with a little cleaner and the malfunctions stopped. I didn't even take the magazine apart.

Thank you so much for the informative video. My wife and I just got new Glocks. Hers is a 19 and mine a 17. She has not been around guns except to shudder when ever someone picks one up. Having said that, she has found a new love in her Glock and loves target shooting. She is taking a beginner course tomorrow and we are both going for our CHL's next month. Thanks to your video she is now comfortable breaking down her gun and re-assembling it. Thank you again... Ron

Thanks for the comment. I just want to mention, here, that the gun that fills the hand well; the one that you would describe as "comfortable", is often not the one that will necessarily handle the best while shooting. Sounds like you already fired both and found the one you prefer. Those M&Ps are nice.

I started with my first Glock (Model 17) years ago. I later sold it and bought a Model 22, which I really love. I hope to get a Model 27 eventually. I still like the 40 S&W very much . You can’t beat a Glock.

The "gun" on a car is the engine and yes you do clean it each time you drive it. They made cleaning it automatic by adding cleaning agents to the fuel at the pump and an oil filter, air filter and fuel filter to remove dirt from the system.

G96 is an old friend that I've been using, along with some others, since 1987. It seems to work very well, and the smell still reminds me of my first revolver -my sadly missed Smith and Wesson 6-1/2" M29, .44 Magnum.

Sorry about the confusion. By disassemble, I mean - complete disassembly. Not just a routine barrel / slide field strip. You can certainly use Q-tips if you like. There are some purists out there who don't use them because of the risk of leaving fibers behind but I'm not one of them. Salty fingers is an issue I've ever considered before.

I've had my 17 gen4 since June and it is an excellent gun. When I took it with me to qualify for my CCW it was funny because the only people who didn't have any issues were me and a couple of others who had glocks. I was suprised at how many issues these people were having and keep in mind most of these people bought these guns brand new the day before. One greeat thing about them is you can get the 30 rd mags. Great when your out shooting with the guys. I'm a glock guy for life now.

Reid Hendricks (spelling) says to clean only when accuracy starts to diminish because shooting without cleaning will lead to better accuracy. He was referring to AR and AK platforms, so I am just guessing this may apply to any platform. Thanks for the video.

G26 NIB. Wiped her exterior down, did a prelim function test, and ran the brush through the bore 3x to clear any poss large residue. 300rnds down the range NP. Simple tip given to me for cleaning. floating brush tip so as to rotate with rifling. May or may not help for longevity to retain a nice crisp rifling, who knows...but that's a pretty rigid brush to go against the rifling several hundreds of times over the life of the gun....Sounded pretty sane to me so am passing it along...hehe My G26 is BARREL RIFLING: right hand, hexagonal LENGTH OF TWIST: 250 mm / 9.84 in

I usually get nylon bore brushes, no bronze or copper brushes. actually, the best cleaning brush would be not a cleaning brush. just try out a bore snake, I swear its the best thing for a barrel. its easy peasy too, no more cleaning rods to pack along or break the threads
