Wasn’t really in the market for another English blend but based on your review I thought I’d give Chelsea Morning a try. I can honestly say this is the first blend I’ve tried that I knew was a keeper from the first bowl. Was a little concerned it was going to be a lat bomb because the smell seemed so strong when I opened the tin, but it’s anything but. The perfect blend. No burn, no bite, just smooth enjoyment. And I agree, I think it would be a good blend for either a new pipe smoker or someone experienced with aromatics wanting to try an English. Great review.
just opened my first tin of Chelsea Morning today after listening to this video. Imagine my surprise when i got it in todays mail seeing a tin date of 01/11/13! Couldn't believe my eyes. It is very lacking in any noticeable latakia other than in the tin note, was expecting more than, or at least equal to EMP, which is a favorite of mine morning with a cup of black coffee. I have to agree it is less on the brights and more on the red virginias for sure. Wonderfull sweetness here but that could be the age of the tin. The orientals are quite nice and seem more pronounced to me than in EMP. The perique seems really perfect as well. Overall a really nice balanced blend thats all about the virginias and floral sweet and sour from the orientals, again more on the sweet side there too.
Wilson, I couldn’t stand it anymore…I finally cracked a tin. And what a joy it is. I like that it’s very soft blend of flavors that is not overbearing at all. Thanks for the re-view keep doing what you do :)
Chelsea Morning has become an everyday smoke for me. I have tried several other English blends and I keep coming back to this blend. No bite which is usually a huge problem for me. It is full of flavor and very consistent from tin to tin. I wish I would have tried this blend earlier in my pipe smoking journey because I would have saved a ton of money and much frustration.
Wilson, I've heard you talk about this blend in many of your videos and I just ordered my first tin of it. I have found that I lean more towards the English blends over the others, being a very new piper. I'll keep you posted on how I feel about this one. Thank you so much for your content. I found this when Early Morning Pipe was not available prior to Peterson taking over Dunhill. That Latakia does have a nice coal Tar/creosote thing going on I love
I’ve really been loving this blend. I’m really starting to notice and love that tar note you talk about. I smoked the whole tin, and decided to try out EMP due to the good things I’ve heard about it and that it’s comparable to Chelsea morning. Couldn’t stand the EMP! To me, it tasted like the closest thing to cigarettes that I’ve found in a tobacco so far. Guess it just doesn’t agree with my palate. I promptly ordered 2 more tins of Chelsea morning.
Just ordered my first couple tins. So far my favorites are George’s dragon which is formerly green dragon, and captain black dark. Looking forward to adding it to my rotation of the two.
Your reviews are very helpful as in some ways our tastes are similar. Recently I began smoking Meridian, an excellent GL Pease blend. Chelsea is a mild English blend and morning is a good start. I have also been smoking along side Chelsea and Meridian blends, Ashton's Artisan English blend. The balance in the Ashton Artisan blend is a little more refined to me than Chelsea. Overall it is hard to pick one over the other as they are all excellent blends showing various nuances offered by Master Blenders. For me Ashton Artison is the 9.6, Meridian 9.4, Chelsea 9.2 (Just for FUN) It is nice to have more than one to choose from in your pipe. Smoke what you enjoy, enjoy what you smoke. I really enjoy Chelsea Morning, and I have added Drucquor and Son's (GL Pease Blender) Trafalgar. It is very good and is in the mix. Have you had a chance to try it?
This is my favorite morning blend to pair with my morning cup of coffee. I used to smoke a lot of C&D Good Morning and EMP, but this to me has more flavor. Overall I tend to be more of a burley boy, but a good light English just hits the spot in the mornings, and Chelsea Morning is just the best to me! My only issue starting out was I had trouble keeping it lit, which I guess was because of the chunkier cut. This was the first tobacco I had encountered in my pipe journey that was something other than a Lane 1-Q style ribbon.
I finally cracked my tin of CM this morning. Yep - another hit by Mr. Pease! One aspect I really like is the very pleasant aftertaste that lingers a while (maybe 30 minutes?) after I'm done with the bowl. Good stuff!
It's so hard when just starting out smoking a pipe. I already have 10-15 tobaccos and gave another 10-15 on my list to try. I bought some to be well rounded some English, some VA, a bit Vapour, and a couple aromatic.
I really enjoy this blend my trying mostly based on your recommendation. The only issue I have with it for beginners is the mechanics I've packed it wrong on numerous occasions. Flavor coolness etc etc I completely agree on. Thanks for the video
Never tried it. Haven’t had any of the GL Pease blends. But I’m gonna have to, you made it sound good. I like the idea of an English blend with a little bit of sweet in it.
Just popped my tin. Not bad at all. Reminds me of my 2022 8 State Burley which I enjoyed enough to buy a bunch of tins. This is not bad and will order more. I rubbed this out but think it was not a good idea. Any suggestions?
I've been meaning to try this blend for a long time, ever since I first came across your channel as you talk about it _just a little bit_ . Lol. How does it compare with GL Pease's Maltese Falcon? I absolutely love Maltese Falcon.
Lol ya I probably mention it more than I think! I find it sweeter and lighter than MF. MF also doesn't have the tar-like character that the Old London series English blends have.
@@TheSpurgeonPiper Yeah, I was intrigued when you said tar. On the one it doesn't _sound_ good, but on the other, it is very popular. I have to get a tin to see what that means.
Can anyone tell me what this is like in comparison to quiet nights? I recently bought quiet nights and while I liked it initially I just couldn't finish the bowl. I'm a very new smoker and I just don't think my palette was ready. The leather and smokiness just became overpowering after a while. Is Chelsea morning similar in that regard?
I’m not sure about Latakia as I’ve tried Maltese Falcon and really didn’t like it. I’m almost at my wits end with how you say things taste good, example: University flake that you say tastes great and I don’t hate it but I surely don’t taste anything great about it. Not sure why I write a comment as you don’t respond anyway. I think it’s your responsibility to respond, if you post videos or do you just want to talk to a camera and be fake and not engage with your audience. I’m not an argumentative fellow, this is as coarse as I get.
