@@Sh4dow_7802 Tobias has a lot of female inspirations for his vocal style, it would make sense he could replicate it. I mean he is a very talented person with a very good range, and his Swedish roots maybe add to it as well.

That's such a cool story!! Love Ghost so much as well.

But his mids are pretty low and he does seem more comfortable around the lower end of things. This video is bad for measuring this since it's just the extremes.

To me he's most likely a baritone, who's not really singing from his chest, but instead uses a lot of nasal sound. His scale and the placement of "passagio" seems to fit very well with the baritone range.

@@Agron_ATA im not the authority bc i am not a vocal coach or anything so take this however u want but his notes around F4-G4 sound way too light and easy for me to think he's a baritone. i know their styles are different but compare tobias to someone like elvis. Tobias is not only higher placed in voice but his timbre is audibly much lighter, and elvis is already considered by many to be teetering the line between baritone and tenor

@@heliotropeskies5918 Well, I wouldn't consider myself a specialist yet, but I'm studying classical singing at college. I know many baritones (myself included even though I'm on a lower spectrum of a baritone) who can sound similar in higher register, when they drop the chest register and only use their head voice. To me Tobias sounds (quite in the opposition to what you've said) really strained there (f4-a4) and isn't as clear as a tenor would - probably the only exception being kiss the goat, which he doesn't sing live this high, they always drop a semitone or a whole tone. Whereas at the same time I don't know many tenors who could produce the sound he made in the "Avalanche". Of course I would never consider him to be a low baritone, but the spectrum of that voice is actually pretty big, and if you want I can show you some classical examples that may (or may not) change your mind.

@@Agron_ATA compare his G4s in beyond the moon and cirice to like any agreed baritone voice (elvis on viva las vegas or frank sinatra's come back to sorento) and there's a clear difference in vocal weight, ease of access and tonal profile. to my ears his voice starts to really push around G#4-A4 which is way higher than a normal baritone voice would. plus his low end lacks resonance and fullness below about C3-Bb2 which is reminiscent of a tenor voice

I would argue he's an extended baritone. The tone of those low notes plus the fact that he does sound more comfortable around the low end (on a song like Stand By Him) make me think he's primarily a baritone that can go pretty high

As a tenor my voice range isn’t even close to this wide and being a girl it’s fair, but I’m still so jealous because I can’t sing most of their songs without being uncomfortable 😭

@@ghostbeesea7581 I'm gonna agree with Jacopo here. While he can hit those low notes they lack the deepness and resonance a baritone would have. The brightness and lightness of his voice definitely sounds like a tenor to me.

@@ghostbeesea7581 I rarely ever pre-order album but there’s no hesitation with Ghost. I am loving it! I’ve already listened to it several times in its entirety. I enjoy every single song. If I had to pick a favorite I would probably say it’s a tie between Twenties and Kaiserian. Hunters Moon & Call Me are so much fun as are others. I very much appreciate the effort put into the album and I’m still reeling from seeing them live! Papa’s showmanship really made my cold heart smile.

Yes yes that song is kinda tricky to sing because the chorus is very low baritone stuff and then the verses (especially the "but through all the sorrow" bit) are super high! Tobias'most impressive ability is controlling all of that super naturally

I've always found it difficult to transition so well between high range and low range, chest and head- I've been training and getting better, but it's really interesting how he uses this skill in Ghost songs. The bridge of Rats "this devastation left your cities to be burned..." Is not much of a jump per se but it's still fairly tricky to get right.

I feel like he learned a lot -- Opus is super cool because at the time he had a lot of limitations as a singer and the way he works around those is suuuuper cool. I don't think he could replicate that nowadays haha

Na it ain’t. It’s a girl singing. Toby doesn’t do all the vocals in any of the albums. He’s gotten people to help him sing.

I've listened to the studio version about 6 times and really don't think it's him but a Goulet. Which I really wish it would have been him screaming instead of a female.

That one is SO GOOD. The growl on "spillways, spillways" always gets me. The camera cuts away from him on the "human decay, corpus dei" bit so I'm not sure if that's him or Swiss but it sounds SO good.

Sometimes they are! I am pretty sure the low notes on the verse of Little Sunshine and Twenties are an effect. All the rest is his real voice.

Yes! But harsh vocals are really difficult to measure the pitch of so I didn't even bother. I am sure if somebody were to look into that they'd find lots of neat stuff.

The thing is- most of that were harsh vocals which have no clearly defined pitch which makes them difficult to fit in the video. I already thought that D5 in Absolution was stretching it.

i knowww when I do an extended of this video I'll put them in. It's just super difficult to measure the pitch of harsh vocals so I didn't even bother.
