Not trying to be a dick here but that's partly true and the whole album was recorded (including this song) but his then recorded company only liked a couple of the tracks from it which did not include this one. He then recorded a few more songs but they were still not happy, so he asked to have his contract cancelled and be released and bought the rights to the album to take with him to a new record company.
Last I checked "revenge" songs required someone being done wrong first? She didn't cheat on him she just didn't wanna date him, SOMETHING SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO DO. He asked her out, she said no, and his response to "get her attention" was to write her number on the 50yrd line saying Call for a Good Time? If anyone deserves revenge it's her.
@@XanderHarris1023 I think they meant he had progressed too far in his style to fit into their country music label. Edit: Or maybe even into country music. Country music didn't used to sound like this.
I would love to see you react to "I wanna talk about me!" BTW: A little trivia: "How Do You Like Me Now" has a double meaning. It was the first song off an album with a new label where he had had more control. Record execa told him he'd never last doing this kind of music because he'd turn off female listeners and guys follow ladies to concerts. They were wrong! Women love Toby's music because a lot of it is what WE think giys think! So "How Do You Like Me Now" was also a question to fans on the new sound...different from "Blue Moon" and "Shoulda Been A Cowboy".
Has anyone else ever noticed the guitar notes sound like they're saying "nanny nanny boo boo" towards the end of the song? You can hear it clearly around 6:35 in this video.
Yup, I so wanted him to notice it but he was talking over it, not his fault, but it’s great!! How many times would we love to do that to someone in our lives?!?
I remember when Toby was on a talk show and a fan asked him to play this song for a girl who snubbed him before he scored the winning point in the big game and then tried coming onto him lol
4:50 "I wish that I had this in me." Exactly. This song represents what 99.99% of us don't or don't bother to do. What I like best is that he does it with a smile.
This song is one of a handful that got me into country music 21 years ago. It IS the ultimate flex song. Whether you ever pull that move on anyone or not, most of us have someone or someone's we'd love to flex on and that makes this song incredibly relatable. Also the music is just awesome. Loved this reaction Billy and i'm happy you're living your dream man.
I love this song! It’s like saying no matter if you’re a boy or girl, if you reject the one who professes their love for you, don’t be surprised if they get famous and rub that right in your face!!! LOL
React to more Sara Evans!! She has so many good songs. -Suds in the bucket -Marquee sign -Backseat of a greyhound bus -Put my heart down -A little bit stronger -Pray for you
This song can apply to many different people from your past, not just someone who rejected you romantically. You have to admit, it’s a great vindication song/video. 🤣. RIP Toby💖 You were the best!!!
This is the song that made me fall in love with country music 😍 When I was little we recorded this on VHS from CMT and I burned that tape OUT!!!! First song I ever sang that wasn't Disney 😂 Love Toby Keith!!!
This is my favorite song of his. I love how the music at the end is taunting, like "nanny nanny boo boo". Another song in a similar vein that you might like is "You Broke Up with Me," by Walker Hayes. Even though the lyrics are addressed to a woman who broke up with him and wants to get back together, he said he actually wrote it in response to the people who abandoned him while he was starting out but then tried to come back into his life after his career started taking off.
I have watched a lot of your videos and now I'm subscribing just for you saying how people thought your channel wouldn't work. I'm helping you to say it worked.
He's from my hometown. Moore oklahoma. He went to moore highschool and they renamed the street infront of the school "Toby Keith ave" also one of our water towers says "home of Toby keith" lol we are proud of him.
He’s not being a “Petty Betty” IMO. Keith discussed the inspiration for the song on his website in 2000. "Initially, I said, 'Here's my title: "You Never Loved Me Before, So How Do You Like Me Now?” It's one of my catch-phrases. A lot of people become successful after they've been told they won't ever be, so people can relate to this. It can be about an old flame or a boss or a teacher -whatever it means to each individual. It was a fun song to write.”
Hilarious he's doing good now just looking at him like what the hell😅😆🤣😁💛🧡👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🤟 every time I see it I just like this video more more thank you for sharing
We have to remind the newer generations how we used to wake up to a radio alarm. That was huge from 70's for 30+ years until smartphones gradually eased that out. But, his line is so clever: "The alarm clock starts ringing, who could that be singing? It's me, Baby, with your wake-up call."
I'm a HUGE Toby Keith fan! My husband even took me to Moore, Oklahoma to see the town where he's ACTUALLY from!! I LOVE TOBY KEITH!! I've seen him in concert more time than I've seen my family who lives eight hours away!! My husband doesn't mind either! He gets blessed trust me ❤😂
My Toby Keith story. I was a casino dealer and he was having a show where I worked. After the show, he comes into higher limits room and sat at my table. I was like that table(not mine) is reserved for you and he said "Well I got good feeling about you, I'll play here if you don't mind" When I tell you we had a ball on my game that night, it's an understatement! He really didn't believe I was a fan and asked to sing my favorite song of his. Of course I started singing this and he along with the others with him sang with me!! He was a great guy and we talked and joke like old friends. As he was leaving, he left a nice tip and sang little less talk! He made my night! To think, I wasn't even gonna go to work that night!!
I carry this in a heavy heart, his passing, he will be missed. I respected his music and his messages, I do love his work, and he will be missed. Toby Keith will be missed he is one of the greatest and he is even in the hall of fame. So, I raise my glass to you in heaven Toby.
This is the ultimate burn! I like this song because this happens to so many teenagers. When you go back to your reunion, things are really different. I am thinking this is something he or one of his friends went through & he sang it in a song. The offenders know who he is singing about!
I understand completely billy what you are saying. I have told people I am going to accomplish what I want to do. I was told I was not good enough, I was to lazy, I didn't have wht it took to accomplish my dreams. I have kicked a few people in the teeth because of accomplishing those dreams. I still have a few more and working on those goals.
I mean honestly I feel this. I had to have a speech like this with my ex the other day. As I told him everything wrong with himself and his life and relationships he looked at me like his world was imploding then half heartedly insulted me. It was satisfying as shit. Wouldn’t usually do that but he’s been trying to start shit and pester anyone he hates including his ex’s, even though most of them did nothing to him.
This is another zinger song like Avril Lavigne's "Skater Boy". It makes you wonder, if their saying you can't do it is the catalyst for their success. My brother did that to me. I didn't get to go to a university, but I did go to a business college. My brother told me in front of my mother, "you will never finish school". Every time I was tired, frustrated or just not getting it, that conversation played in my head and it would keep me going. I did graduate. Earned an AA degree in accounting. Not glamorous but I did graduate!!! 🎓🏫
Reminds me of my grandma. A very gentle, kind, loving, wise woman She'd pass on little bits of knowledge, like "revenge is best served cold" I was too immature to understand, but years later I was in the position to smile and say "Thanks Grandma" (after using another one of hers "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer"
Hey Billy This is the ultimate FLEX song and Much appreciation for your reaction here …..this is one RU-vid channel that is a lift in my days and nights .
Congratulations billy!!! Im new to your channel but i have binged most of your content you seem like a cool sweet hearted dude man you deserve everything comming to you!! #fuckhaters
So many people can relate to this. Sorry that I was not a big enough to do as you did. Just had to run it in. Revenge is always best served cold. Thanks for giving us this song Toby.
