Winner of the West Central Division (CO, IA, KS, MN, MO, ND, NE, SD) MTNA Senior Piano Competition 2020. Recorded on Steingraeber Phoenix piano at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Boulder, Colorado on November 25, 2019.
Wow! What an amazing performance. This is my favorite keyboard piece by Bach. Your tempo and voicings are perfect. Most pianists take it too fast. I really think this is probably the best performance of 911 on RU-vid. I will keep your performance in mind as I continue to study it.
Dear Karmen, you have won a subscriber thanks to this video. I had listened to your playing some other pieces, and of course I liked how you play, but this one has taken me to a different level. I am not a specialist, of course, but here I have thought to myself: "-Oh, this is how I had always thought that Bach should be played!" Your dynamics is fabulous. In this music, you find poetry and mystery and convey them in a degree that I do not find in other performances. Thank you for sharing, keep up the good work, and best wishes and thoughts from Spain!
It was an excellent performance of Toccata . There was a very good nuance and an excellent technic as well. I wish the artist health and much mire success. Thanks for uploading.
Dear Karmen, as others also wrote: your playing developed a lot, today I felt your very own way of interpreting! I am shure: the spirit of Glenn Gould is on your side, encouraging you to get into your own and deep way of playing... these moments are enriching my life, thank you very much!
Very captivating performance as many others of yours! Waiting eagerly for you to appear with recordings at Apple Music and other platforms someday, the sooner the better✌
@@laurenth7187 I started hating more and more the youtube discussions about who is "the greatest" → greatest composer, greatest violinist, greatest pianist, or even the greatest youtube user etc. Would be better to replace that with "my favourite". Every artist explored different parts of the musical space (spazio musicale). Sometimes they are on the same level but they made different things, or similar things but in different way. And maybe, the same person, in different stages of his/her life will prefer a different artist... And most of musicians of the history were forgotten - even Bach was almost forgotten.
I like your studious and reserved demeanor. It's very unique. You're not trying to be flashy or overly dramatic like so many of the other pianists out there who make unnecessary distracting gestures and noises. Very classy and elegant physical style and choice of clothing. It could really set you apart from other pianists going forward. Black clothing is always super classy, plus it matches the piano so well, and highlights your ivory skin, which of course complements the ivory keys.
Per la toccata ho un' idea un po' diversa. Ma in una forma così libera ci sta ( quasi) tutto. La fuga è proprio suonata al tempo giusto, né troppo espressiva né puramente virtuosistica. Con divertimento. Che brava
Wonderful Baroque playing on Piano! Good clarity and flow withing the expressive bounds of Baroque not getting to romantic or out of baroque "musical interpretations" that tends to disrupt the purity and essence of Bach which you presented here. One hears in your playing the intentions very well. May I ask who your Professors in Germany were that helped you reach this depth in understanding of Bach? Herzlichen Dank!
