I turned my kids on to this joint a few years back! They always say "you guys had the jams"! My son rolled in one day from college last year and this was blasting from the car. We started clowning in the driveway...lol 😆
This record is underrated. These guys could sing. 🐤🍕🍭🌞🌞⛄🍃🌵🌷🌻. They Should have gotten more recognition. I love this record. It should have hit number one. It's a hit.
I LOVE " TODAY" I THINK THIS RECORD IS UNDERRATED. THIS WAS THE JAM.. THEY ARE A TALENTED GROUP AND THE BAND TOO. THEY SHOULD GET MORE RECOGNITION, ESPECIALLY FOR THIS RECORD. IT IS THE JAM!
Man...this right here is ANOTHER 80's banger. If you weren't there, it's kinda hard to explain the vibe, the feeling, the energy, love, life, the people and the food. Yeah some things didn't make it to this decade. But for us that enjoyed those times, you are truly blessed.
I've been listening to this over and over since I found it and the nostalgia is very fresh in my mind summertime in NYC aaaahh memories like this are priceless
It’s ok I don’t think it explainable I’m 52 and from the Bronx and this was absolutely one of the best times to be alive when it comes to music and partying . I think we just have to cherish the memories and be thankful we were able to be a part of it . 80’s and 90’s have to be top five for music era
Right!! "The VIBE, The FEELING, The LOVE!!" You Nailed It!! It was the HBCU College Year's for me - 1988/1989 Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee. The Vibe, The Love, The Energy was incredible!!! I would play this so loud in the car on the Campus!! This was my ONE and the entire Cassette stayed on replay!!!
This jam didn't get the recognition it should have. But it did at my house, parties and barbque's, because everyone got up and danced!!!! And I still love it!!! I
I remember singing this song at a festival in downtown Detroit with my band. We all had on different colored silk outfits and kilt the show. 17 years old. Damn!!! Miss those days.
This song is the JAMMMMMMMM. Every time I play this song I am transported back to I so wish it would never end 80's. For all those that don't know you better ask somebody. LONG LIVE THE 80'S, THE GARAGE, THE LOFT, THE DOME, THE ELECTRI CIRCUS, BENTLEY'S, THE CHEETAH CLUB.Thanks so much for posting. I am in heaven.
Teddy Riley knew exactly what he was doing by creating this amazing sound and producing some of the hottest groups of the late 80s and throughout the hot 90s.
People ask why they don't make music like this any more - but the answer is quite simple, and it's all down to fact that people are no longer happy. We live a sterile, artificial world where hatred of our fellow man is acceptable. Ask yourself this; when was the last time you heard a truly happy or uplifting song apart from Pharrell's 'Happy'?
Whenever i listen to these soul classics i wonder whether God has stopped creating musicians who are talented like those of the 90s, 80s 70s and way back from 50s.
Yeah this is the sh.... they just can't make it original like this anymore. All these new wack artists continue to copy or steal original hits like this one. And these guys can sing without using vocal-synthesizers to make their voice sound better like the artists of today.
Gene was a monstaer...he was the one who ran Timothy Gatling off (Tim put GUY together, and he was on the cover of the debut album, and his songs were Business, and You Can Call Me Crazy)Gene has passed away now..he still has a legacy in music, but it was at Teddy Riley's expense...Gene was such a fuckin hater man...when Teddy left him, he took all the beats Teddy had left in the studio, and used them for a fake sounding GUY group called Basic Black.
Elizabeth Bolden thats crazy I was wondering why basic black sounded so much like guy thats sad he couldnt even give basic black their own sound even the lead singer sounded like Aaron hall. The crazy part is i enjoyed basic blacks album even though they copied guy but i didnt know that gene stole teddys beats thats crazy, thanks for the info much appreciated
Not a problem...yeah when Teddy left Gene...Gene told him he owned everything Teddy had to start over from scratch...he moved to Virginia Beach where I met him, opened up a management company called LOR Entertaiment (Life Of Riley), and a studio called Future Records on Virginia Beach Blved. Teddy never looked back after then, he kept it moving.
And also R.I.P. January 1, 1970 - December 31, 2003 real mainstream music of all genres. January 1, 2004 - present mainstream music is godawful and garbage.
Teddy RIley is my dude. Tr is da king of new jack swang. He put it on da map. Everything he did from 88-94 was on point. For u to compare him to dat ho azz diddy is a injustice. Diddy has no talent. He gets one hit out of u, and he then turns his back on you. Some of his screw over list, craig mack, biggie, faith evans, new edition, 112, day 26. So what about todays artists? Beyonce, chris brown, justin "little girl" beiber. they are no talent, sampling azz autotune artists.
OMG! I remember seeing Today and Guy at the Beacon Theater and I still remember how they tore this song up. I still do the dance moves when I hear it. This does sound like Show Me where You're Coming From by Carrie Lucas.
That’s where it comes from. Go look up Remote Control by The Reddings. Listen to the hook. It’s where My Prerogative comes from. Then listen Bell and James Livin It Up on Friday night. It’s where Just Got Paid
Everyone (including myself) automatically assumes this is a TR production, but actually it's credited to Gene Griffin with Timmy Regisford on the buttons.
There's no way in hell Gene Griffin produced this song lol. He was just a straight up did a Suge Knight and stuck his name of this track. That is Teddy on the Keys for sure.
OMG! Love it! I use to dance my way to work to this song back in the day. Folks their cars would wave at me not knowing what I was bouncing and spinning to. IT WAS THIS! Thank you so much for this upload! Excuse me please for I have to replay this and shake my butt AGAIN!
Now you know why Teddy got away from Gene I used to see Teddy create music in the 90’s when I lived in VA Beach!! Teddy produced Todays whole album and Bub will tell you that this was a NJS classic
When this song & album came out in 1988 i was in 5th grade at the time i got the cd off ebay some years back i think back in 2007 or 2008 i still bump and him or me...
BomberMonkAssassin35 rhaaa i was still playing tape recorders and vinyls in 88 dam lol i must have been way backwards lol got my first cd in 93-94 hahahaa
we had a train line for this song for my birthday lol..this still bumps today in era of 2019..thanks to king of new jack swing gene Griffin..but to mainly his nephew teddy riley putting this project together
My favorite Today song hands down,I remember seeing them Live,i belive they came to Tampa Florida in 1988 with Guy ,they were bad.I was a Jr in high school.
Even if gene took the credits for this particular production...anyone who has fallowed this new jack era of music knows that Teddy Riley is stamped all over this production, even if he didn't get credited for it.
This still wrecks shop in 2021; you couldn't help but get up and dance when this came on, cats today really have no clue as to how cool this music is!!!!
" Man, Man, Man!!!!!!!!!" This was the college dance jam in my era of 1988 + !!! " We killed the dance floor on the jams by TODAY!!! Man, if we could get all the great groups of the late 80 s, and have a major reunion= "REAL, REAL MUSIC!!!" Thank you soo much for sharing!!!
This is NOT some hack Puff Daddy looped mutilation of a classic r&b track or the like. This record right here is a tremendous example of the power of the ART of sampling. This art primarily is about finding something LATENT or relatively so in an original piece and recontextualizing it and in so doing breathing COMPLETE & INDEPENDENT NEW LIFE into it . Teddy (or Gene if it was him) found some hidden spiritual aspect, some heretofore unknown luminescent dimension, in that Carrie Lucas track and a) EXPOSED IT, and then b) BROUGHT OUT THE BEST IN IT.
what a great classic haven't heard it in year's until now greatful for youtube love the new jack swing the late 80s and mid 90s they both where great decade's i wish i can go back.
tdsafff It was all the genius of Teddy Riley he made R&B in a Hip Hop mindset and made Hip Hop in an R&B mindset and the two have fed off of one another every since.
This is what you call a certified jam. This was when music was music .Can you feel the spring time passion when the look of love has caught your eye.Gir I got my peepers on you.
Teddy Riley make all these music sound so dang on good I got so much love for Teddy for all his good work he a very smart man for sure nobody can get down like Teddy he is the best
