On Day 79 of my miniaturist's diary, I finally finished my miniature aviary, then made and hung some lovely curtains in Lily's bedroom. In this video is a really simple technique, which I demonstrate , on how to make miniature carpets. As always any questions, please just ask. Regards, Jill.

Nice and simple Sharon. And making patterns is simple too. I really like working with it. All the best, Jill.

Thank you Jill, I have been told how to make a ‘bunka’ mat but seeing you do it makes it much clearer. There are lots of newbies on the internet who have not even heard of bunka thread let alone know how versatile it can be for miniature trimmings. Enjoy your lunch/dinner😊

Thanks. It is by far the easiest way to make little rugs. Glad you enjoy my videos.

I'm so glad you've shared a bit of your routine with us, simply marvelous. I'll say you're one of the more fascinating and inspiring of persons I have become acquainted with and truly love your creativity and projects. That rug is something else, I'd have never thought of it. Did your Mother ever have a love of crafting?

Hello Karen, thank you for your kind remarks. My mother was a watercolorists and tried her hand at most crafts including miniatures. She is still alive but attended her last miniature club meeting in December. My father was a draughtsman in his spare time, drawing up plans and building a yacht, a caravan, several houses and restored old cars. So I think my sisters (3) and i inherited a lot of useful talents. God bless them.

Bless your mum 💕💕💕 Thank you for sharing this technique I do appreciate it. I really am trying to make my doll house from scratch. I’m trying to make furniture pieces that are unique and very vintage looking all from wood. The era Im going for is early 1900s European. So I do love learning old techniques. I don’t mind that it’s harder at all I just want to use the same old techniques.I can’t wait to try this I was even thinking of needle pointing a rug .My sketches are done for that one now. Oh fun ,now I can make something new and different. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕

I like doing those mats as well. My sister is trying to teach me to do Punch work but I haven't got the knack yet. Can see it could be a bonus. I need a carpet in a room.

The aviary is such a wonderful addition! It turned out beautifully (of course!). The rug tutorial was really appreciated! I’m going to give that a try! I’d read about this method, but seeing it done makes it so much more “doable.” It’s lovely you have your life structured in a way that works for you and your loved ones. So many times, caregiving or other aspects of life result in the loss of one’s personal desires, including artistic outlet. Your husband sounds a lot like mine - such a great supportive mate! That, too, can make all the difference in one’s day to day options and activities. What a loving home your mama has - a true gift! I find your work go relaxing and inspiring - such a nice combination! Have you ever considered doing longer videos - even one every 2-3 weeks would be wonderful for your viewers? However, I know videoing, editing, posting, etc takes time, so any video you share is a treat! I’m already looking forward to your next one! Thank you! Kathleen, Idaho, USA

Hi Kathleen, I love your feedback. I have considered longer videos. That requires a lot more planning so I will have to leave that until I have finished the Beacon Hill house at least. Looking at my studio I do not think I will be short of stories, workshops and laughs.

Amazing! I love the work and dedication. There used to be a similar show on teve where a man made miniature things mainly for "doll theatre". I enjoyed that show a lot. This could easily be a very wholesome teve show too!

The aviary looks really great.Like Manu others I've been told how to use "Bunka "to make rugs and things but never actually seen it done so that was really useful. You can also use it on teeny baby dolls to make curly haired dolls for toys.Lilys room is perfect for a little girl.Best wishes from Yorkshire Dales England.
