Dave, please continue this tank series! Beautiful fish, Betta superstar rules ! And my beloved plecos are here. Planaria are so big. I always let them live in my aquarium, one of my late lady pleco loved eat them . But they never reached even half centimeter, were very tiny, majority only 1 mm or less. This video inspired me to establish ecosystem in the jar with local flora, Paramecium caudatum and other small organisms. Definitely I will make it during this summer.

Hey Dave! I have a question about your tanks: Specifically in regards to the gunk that builds up on filters. Do you wash it off, or do you leave it? To clean it or not to clean it, that is the question. 😂
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад
I use sponge filters, and I give the outside of the sponge a quick cleaning with the siphon hose when I do water changes. And every month of so, depending on how dirty the filter looks, I take the whole thing out and give it a few squeeze's in the used tank water that I took out when doing a water change. In some tanks, I go months without cleaning the filter. It really depends on how heavily stocked the tank is. You don't want it to be too clean. 😁

@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад
There are lots off different aquatic worms. How they move is usually a good way to tell them apart. Planaria don't swim, but glide gracefully over objects. The key to recognizing a planaria is the triangular-shaped head. Leeches can swim, and use an awkward and slow reach and pull method of moving. There are also horsehair worms, detritus worms, rhabdocoelas, etc. . . It's a jungle out there! Be very careful adding wild creatures to a fish tank. There are all sorts of potentially harmful animals in local lakes and ponds. . .

@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад
Thanks for watching the video. Your "black moss" is probably black beard algae or staghorn algae. I would begin by manually removing all of the algae that you can see. You can also use 3% hydrogen peroxide to spot treat areas where it's growing. As long as the air is humid, Anubias can survive out of water for a very long time. However, the algae will have trouble surviving outside of the water. So, you can also keep the plant(s) out of the water in a sealed plastic back for a while and this will hurt the algae, but not hurt the anubias. Once the anubias are put in their new home, frequent large water changes can also help keep the algae from spreading. Best of luck.

Good Morning... I please need some advice.... my tank is now infested with bladder snails... when I change the filter there are hundreds of babies on the filter.... they're all over the glass... I have so many egg blobs all over everything... I know I am probably feeding my fish more than I should... and that's why I have tons of snails... it started as what I first saw as ONE CUTE little snail...LOL .. Well, they're not so cute anymore... I have decided the only way I think I am going to get rid of them is to break my tank completely down.... I know that's so hard on the fish but not sure what else to do... they're that bad... I do not have an extra tank I can set up and let run for a few days before putting the fish into that... the only thing i know to do is to take out a lot of water that's in the take put it into my big plastic container that's only had a betta in it... and totally break down my tank.... I just want to know if you think there is another way OR if I can do something to keep them less stressed as I do the total tank breakdown.... I read that I should soak everything in 1 part bleach and 19 parts water to kill any eggs... let soak for 10 min then rinse... rinse... rinse... Please help me... I'm just lost and not sure what to do... I do love my fish... I truly do... that's why I am asking for your help... you're the ONLY person I'd ask for help.. you're the only one I trust... Please take your time.. don't rush to answer... I feel bad asking for your help I just don't trust anyone else and I know you'll give me the best advice... @@wendysheets1916 you are welcome wendy i had problems with snails so assassin snails save my tank
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад
@wendysheets1916 Snails reproduce in proportion to their food supply and the water temperature. So, the first step is to slow down or even stop feeding for a while. (Your fish can go without food for several days.) Rather than breaking down the tank, try a multi-pronged approach to reducing their numbers. First, stop feeding for 3 days, then cook a spinach leaf until it's nice and soft, and then put the spinach in the tank. When the hungry snails all head over to the food remove the spinach along with the attached snails. Do this every chance you get. A very small siphon hose ( airline tubing) can also be used to suck them and their eggs out of the tank whenever you see them. You are now the snail predator. . . Rather than using bleach, you can just remove items such as decorations, driftwood etc. and let them sit to dry. This will kill the eggs / no need for bleach. The eggs dry up and die outside of the water. This will not work for a sponge filter because that needs to remain submerged in the water. Its best not to mess with the filtration. Assassin snails might work, but they sometimes pass over really small snails like bladder snails. So, it really depends on the tank environment and what other food sources are available for the assassin snails to eat. If they have lots of flake food to eat, the assassins won't even bother with the little snails. Pea puffers work really well for killing snails, but these little puffer fish can be very aggressive. However, if I had to pick one animal to take care of a snail infestation it would be pea puffers / dwarf puffers. But like I said they can be nippy. So, this solution really depends on what else is in the tank and how it's set up. Another possible solution is a small gold fish. Goldfish will eat all of the small snails that they can find. However, they prefer cooler water than most tropical fish, but it should be okay for a while. You could put it in for a while like a hired assassin to eat the snails and then return it to the store when the job is done. (some gold fish are very inexpensive) Keep in mind that it is very difficult to get rid of snails entirely, so to keep their numbers manageable, keep the food supply to a minimum. Most people are very heavy handed with the food and this is why they have trouble with snails. So, once the infestation is under control continue removing them manually every time you spot one. I make a game out of it, like hide and seek. #1 - reduce feeding #2- manually remove as many as you can ( siphon hose + baiting with food ) #3- remove decorations and let them dry to kill eggs (no bleach) #3- introduce a snail predator A combination of all of these approaches will give you the best results. Best of luck, and thank you for putting your trust in me. 🐟🐟🐟

@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад

@@TheDave333 but is there a reason they need the bubble nest? I speculate it's cuz they so tiny and need air which they get from air bubbles.... But I don't know
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 Год назад
The males make the bubbles, because that's where they will put the eggs when they mate with the female. They don't get oxygen from the bubbles. They make a bubble nest, and they spawn with the female underneath the nest. The bubbles keep the eggs safe and up near the top of the water where there is more oxygen. The bubbles may provide some oxygen to the eggs as they develop. I am working on a video all about keeping and breeding bettas. If you have any questions about keeping them please don't be afraid to ask. They're wonderful fish!

I am sure that the cut , tear or anything else you can expect to have the regeneration to be really quick and opaque big but if you are seeing the area become infected then you should have a few emergency action starting early in your water changes and testing above all you have to be careful with your fish feeding and the best weapon is the know where to get the rest of the story , good day.
