One of those rare live performances where the authentic beauty shines from the voice of the singer. No vocoder or effects... just a voice and honest lyrics.
I was so worried that meeting this man personally would destroy my perception of him as a genuinely humble and peace-loving soul. Boy, was I wrong for ever doubting him.
Goes along with exactly what I said above, though I’ve never met him. You know he’s a humble, dedicated family man. Less of the ego and more of the talent than most, I say.
I grew up only knowing one song...after watching more clips, I must say that he's one fabulous singer, amazing guitarist, incredible song writer/producer and performer. The backup singers are top class. This clip is amaaaazing!!
Todd is always amazing he is always A Cut Above and Beyond and you know what I come from a rock and roller background back in the early seventies and I jumped a barricade in Central Park to try to meet him to meet him and it was his birthday and he said off of fireworks display I will never forget that moment in time not to mention all the beautiful music that this man has perfected over the years
Oh, I love you, Todd. You changed the world with this song. Listen to it to feel more compassionate on those of us who have been less fortunate in our lives. What a beautiful song, what a beautiful man.
PS there is a better version on Todd Rundgren live at BBC. The mix here seems digital (which I hate). The analog BBC recording is better. Give it a listen and see.
I was in my early twenties when TR first released his greatest music. I loved it then and still do now that I am 72. What I didn’t get at first was his absolute creative power. He is so intelligent and articulate. Love him and don’t really know him but his music speaks for him, all we have to do is listen and appreciate.
I'm so glad to see what you posted because I'm a 71 year old woman just close to your age and I have always enjoyed everything Todd Rundgren has ever done a very underrated performer
Possibly the best version of Compassion - and as a Zappa fan also great to see Flo and Eddie on backing vocals - this much talent on one song ?? amazing
Todd fan since the late 70's. This is such an awesome song.. I have seen quite a few TR shows. Lyrics to this beautiful song should be in everyone's mind.. 'World would be a better place. All the best in 2017.
This song is the essence of me, Even if i know i can be broken by it sometimes. Giving of your Heart fully, and having that same kind of Love for others is exhausting, but much more rewarding, than waiting for the next person to hurt you and closing yourself off. Todd really feels this one, and i do as well, bless him, and everyone here who adores this song as much as i do.
Todd has been my mentor and inspiration in my music and dance career, for many years. I thank you, Todd, for this and so many other wonderful songs, musically, and excellent lyrics. Re: Compassion...."Why can't we all just have "Compassion", for this world would be so much better. Amen????
Only me makes 130 likes? I got Healing in High School, listening to music no one around me was or would listen to. I didn't even know Women listened to Todd as a kid, it was a lonely existence. I love this song.
in my late 20's I thought Healing was amazing...gave it to a coworker to try overnight. he came back the next day laughing hysterically ..... he thought it was the most pompous asshole recording he ever heard. That did not help our working relationship ;-)
I think many of us try to share this music only to run into a brick wall. Some art is not immediately available. You have to work at it and listen until it unfolds for you. Todd Rundgren needs more than a passive listen. You either get it or you don't. My husband took me to a Utopia concert in 79 or 80. I was five years into a lifetime listen, and now 41 years into a very happy marriage.
I was literally just thinking this very thing, this man is SO talented- it has to be a gift from God ....1st time hearing this but I am a massive Todd fan and have 3 of his earlier albums but want to get all of them eventually .....it's a shame I live in New Zealand as I would love to see or have seen him in concert and he is one person I would really love to meet as he is so passionate and talented ❤
Going through the hardest time in my life at the moment. Being erroneously judged and getting not an ounce of compassion from anyone. The lines here "You'll get no judgement from me, I can only feel compassion and if that's what you need, I will give you my compassion" are ripping me apart. Coming from Todd's wondrous, soul touching voice, I feel as if he's addressing me - and God knows I'm so very grateful. Thank you Todd. ❤️
Love this song! Denise a friend of yours and mine, said she wanted it played at her funeral. She has long blonde, tall and slender. She would sit with your mom at your concerts. ❤
Todd is so much more Musically, technically talented than Steven Tyler; and so much more a better father, husband, and family man. Such a wonderful human being. In fact, he’s so decent and humble that he probably doesn’t even want this comparison from me, a fan who understands music composition. But, I so hope you get a chance to read this, Todd.
He sings it still at 70 yrs of age in Melbourne Saturday 27th Oct 2018 after Todd-a-Roo in Sydney. Beautiful. Check out Todd Rundgren Radio on FB for postcards from Melbourne. You have to join group.
I would love to meet Todd but I would be so nervous he is real authentic and I've never met him but my sister has. He's just a very special person with a lot of talent My sister Robin and I just seen him twice in the last seven months it was awesome
He is the one person I would truly love to meet, if only I lived in America and not N Z I would so love to see him live - If u ever read this PLEASE come to New Zealand Todd ❤ we would Love to see you xox
We're do you start were do you stop. Sure there are better guitar players, better singers better tiny pieces of everything. Put it all together, Todd's catalog and is there even a real count of live shows. Best of all time
Let's all show some compassion during this corona virus and help each other. Not stockpile 20 cases of toilet paper, but offer to help your neighbour or an elderly shut in.
Amazing quality Seems I can't find many videos from this time period Late 70s maybe early 80 s Does any one know what year this tour was and how long this line up lasted Thanks
80/81 or so? There is also a David Sunburn show where TR played a few songs (Parallel Lines I believe), but it was a similar production (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--28Gg9I2dJk.html)
