I’ve heard the way it started with them was Midoriya “thawing Shoto’s frozen heart.” And as cheesy as that sounds I can’t really deny. He really did help Shoto.
"No, I think heroes cry when they need to, too." is such a marvellous sentiment so beautifully expressed and I really love the slightly awkward poetic way it's translated in the subs.
The scene in the cafeteria when Midoriya is crying and says “heroes don’t cry” and Shoto refutes it in the most Shoto way possible is one of my favourite things in the whole anime. It’s the little gems of character moments like that that make scenes like Shoto talking about how Deku is feeling during the Class A intervention/fight hit that much harder. Love these two, their dynamic is often overshadowed by a certain explosion murder god being loud but their kinship is lovely.
