No but only because it’s more difficult to spring off of the heel, it’s an unnatural motion.

I only ask because I struggle with popping off my heels. I think the key is to raise my toes as opposed to what I try now which is to feel like I’m about to heel side carve which causes me to slip out.

Hi Malcolm, Looks like fun, would love to practice it when we get snow here at mt Hood. For your viewers info, I too use the Supermatic bindings. Last year I was having a little trouble getting out sometimes, I was using my 3 year old thirty-two boots, which have a bit of a square toe ledge and a little lip in the heal by design. The are nice boots though. . Just last month I purchased the Nidecker Rift boots. They feel great and, surprise, they make the bindings work so much better! The toe has a slippery feel going in and the heal comes out with no hangups. I surmise that the design of the Rift was Supermatic friendly with no ledges or lips to get hung up. Doesn’t matter, the boot is comfy and the Supermatics rock. Big fan of your work man, rock on.😎

@zes793
@zes793 5 месяцев назад
Get all 4 of your basic 180s dialled in (frontside, backside, switch frontside, switch backside) before trying this. Toe to toe and especially heel to heel are very advanced drills. You have to be able to take off in a carve, spin a perfect hardway 180 (off the wrong edge) without under/overrotating and land on edge, back into a carve on the same edge you took off from. These are considered some of the hardest skills in instructor training/exams, moreso than front/back 360s, high speed switch carving, switch boardslides and so on.

Another great video Malcolm. You're my favorite snowboard channel. Equipment question for you. Have you gone all in on the Nidecker Supermatic bindings (exclusively using)? I ask because I considered for this season, but due to price point, I was holding off until they were a little more battle tested. I've been running GNU Freedom rear entry for past 8 years and they've been great, but this design and innovation sparked my curiosity. Thanks and keep up the great vids and stay safe this season
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 5 месяцев назад
Nah I've got some other Bindings on my park board. For me they really work well though when I'm filming, before and after every shot I'm syncing cameras to mics etc, so just being able to quickly get in and out is great. Otherwise strapping in doesn't really bother me too much, and there's no benefit to supermatics over a regular binding, but if you want a step in, then they're great. They work, and that's all you need them to do!

I just wear a helmet, it doesn't restrict any range of movement, plus you need to keep your head warm during the winter anyway. Everything else, there's an argument to be made that it can restrict movement, but if you feel the need to wear something, then by all means feel free to wear that! I learned to snowboard this way and I’m still suffering the consequences lol. I developed my toe edge first as a kid and for years didn’t think to do anything else since I didn’t have anyone to train me or that knew anything about snowboarding. I didn’t jump or anything I would essentially just spin around. It made me very good at riding regular and goofy but I still don’t have that great of a heel edge.

Thanks for a great video Malcolm! Would it make sense to repeat the same toe to toe carving exercise with backside 180?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 5 месяцев назад
Not really just because when you land that rotation you then have to change the way you are rotating to lock in the carve. Whereas the rotation of the frontside 180 carries you round in the same way as the next carve, you can do it with a backside 180 but it's not as fun in my opinion. Also it's very easy to just skid a bs 1 on the toes, whereas the front 1 off the toes you need to get all the way around!

Somewht disappointing to see so many exotic activities on SkiBro, like monoski, but not see hardboot snowboarding there...

I don't understand why you didn't immediately fall at 3:25... it looks like you caught your frontside (toe) edge, yet you didn't go over. Is it just that you had enough speed to power through it, which is masked by the slow-mo?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 5 месяцев назад
Because I'm carving on my toes then popping right off them it lifts some of the snow out of the track, the key is to not start the rotation until the board has lifted off the ground, and then you're fine. It's also happening because the snow is nice and soft, the POV demo I do later on was on an icy slope and therefore you don't see that happening.

How many bananas do you think you could consume in a single smoothie?
@malcolmmoore
@malcolmmoore 5 месяцев назад
I think we need to first consider the size of the smoothie, but I reckon perhaps 4 bananas per 500ml would be possible.
@Gorbothy
@Gorbothy 5 месяцев назад
@@malcolmmoore I can get behind 500ml for 4 banana's. Snowboard procamp Kevin said he drinks 8 banana smoothies, can you beat him?
