Very helpful video. We are building our 10x 16 (6x6) today and I just wanted to tell you that I’ve shared your video in advance to my friends who will come and give me a hand on this so they know what to expect.
It was just regular 6 x 6. Lumber. I Think it’s pine or spruce? I’m not sure but I stained these before we installed them. That’s why they look a bit darker red. It’s not cedar.
What to do if the wood doesn’t fit into the three way connector? I have to use at least the four post and they don’t seem to dig all the way in. Any solutions would be appreciated!
This system definitely wasn’t designed with humid conditions in mind…here I am trying to install in the middle of the North Carolina summer. Rains every other day and when it doesn’t it’s 80% humid or worse…after letting my wood sit for over a month it still is way too fat to fit in the system lol
This is a 10 x 16 pergola so three of the beams that run the width of the Pergola are 10 feet in length, all of the rest of the beams and legs are 8 feet in length. A 6 x 6“ beam is 5 1/2 inches wide so it doesn’t hold a lot of water/snow. In the winter when it snows, I take the fabric shade roof off during that time of year
How much was it for the 10x6 with the wood? I live on corner lot my yard sits high so people can see inside my yard. I wanna put a pergola close to fence for privacy. Can I add planks along on the sides for more privacy?
Nice video on how to put together a TOJA Grid pergola.. I got my kit for a 10x16 last week and want to start my work over the long weekend.. I had a few questions regarding the concrete slab and the post lengths. 1. My concrete slab has a slight slope to allow for easy water runoff, do you recommend cutting the posts to the correct length beforehand? 2. What kind of Post Anchors did you use?
No - I left my posts the length they came. I used the Redhead Anchors 3/8" x 4" see this link: www.itwredhead.com/products/expansion-anchors/trubolt you can find them at Lowe's & Home Depot
How big is it? Answer: Hello, Our Toja Grid Kits can be built to any size you would need, The recommended wood span for our 4x4 brackets is 12 feet and for our 6x6 brackets is 16 feet. Anything bigger would require our Quad and our Quint Bracket to expand the Pergola to your needs.
Yes - I purchased the shade sales with my kit. You can purchase them here: tojagrid.com/collections/accessories/products/toja-grid-shade-sail?variant=6497134870570
How many people were needed to hold everything up while putting on the last vertical posts? Our 10x12 is half assembled on our deck and I'm trying to see how many people I need to get pizza and beer for in order to get the job done. Thanks!
@@HuntAndFishExchange ok thanks, was debating between those and the Tapcon Plus heavy duty 3/8 by either 3 or 4 inch... Both seem like they'd work fine, but if I get close to my patio edge the tapcons might be safer..
If you're talking about the cement slab, it is about 4inches thick, however I have a 34 inch footing that was pre-poured under each post when I originally laid the concrete. I live in Utah and needed it to reach past the frost line.
I want to get this system but as a 10' x 14' . Do you think four posts is enogh to hold the weight? Also how long total did it take to actually build it? It's been a year now, how has it held up?
I think 14 feet is too long of a span to have without another post supporting it. Especially if you are using 6"x6" post like I did. They are pretty heavy. It is holding up very well, I just need to re-coat come of the top beams again with Thompsons water seal/stain
Hey, I know this is an old video, but question! how deep is your concrete patio? I've been mulling one of these over but I only have a 4 inch thick patio, which seems a bit light. How deep is yours?
my slab is 4" deep but I made footings 3 feet deep and only 2'x2' where the posts sit. ( I live in a climate that has snow for multiple months of the year.)
Hi there. Pergola looks great. I realize you answered this same question below, but I wanted to absolutely confirm before I commit to buying 6x6 kit. Is the thing stable or does it wiggle? Or is it rock solid? I've seen 4x4 versions wiggle/wobble quite a bit. Thank you for your thoughts.
Looking awesome. Just purchased our brackets. What kind of wood did you use? Not post size. I looked up 6x6 cedar posts and they are super expensive !!!!!!!!

Very helpful video, thanks! Question on the redhead anchors in which I am also looking at as well....the 6x6 posts have the pre-drilled holes on the base brackets 1/2 wide so I was wondering why you went with the 3/8 instead of the 1/2 anchors? I tested with both sized anchors and seems the 1/2 will go through if you hammer it lightly through the pre-drill hole on the base, just not sure if that's ideal, whereas the 3/8 fits easily. Thanks.
This video is super helpful! Question... did you have to wait for your lumber to dry before it would fit into the Toga? I am having trouble with that. I know the wood will shrink but am not sure how long that will take.
I really didn't have a problem with my lumber fitting into the system. But I live in Utah and it is very dry here. I suggest you let it dry out if you are having issues fitting. The only prep we did was sand off all of the black ink that was stamped on the beams and then stained the beams before the install.

It was a couple of years ago, but I think this was about $2500 for everything. I know that TojaGrid sells some side shade panels that are similar to the top shade panels. here's their link: tojagrid.com/collections/shade/products/toja-grid-shade-sail?_pos=1&_sid=031f39d36&_ss=r&variant=6497134870570
