Bengali Raw Mango Dal Recipe:
Ingredients:
1 cup masoor dal (red lentils), washed
3 cups water
1 tsp salt
1/2 raw mango, cut into pieces
4-5 green chilies, slit
2-3 tsp mustard oil
1-2 bay leaves
2-3 dry red chilies
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Instructions:
1. In a pan, add the washed masoor dal, 2 cups of water, and 1 tsp salt. Let it boil.
2. As the dal boils, white foam will form on the surface. Remove the foam with a spoon and let it continue boiling.
3. Once the dal is fully boiled, whisk it well with a whisker to get a smooth consistency.
4. Add the raw mango pieces, slit green chilies, and 1 cup of water to the boiled dal. Let it boil for a few more minutes.
5. In a separate kadai, heat 2-3 tsp of mustard oil. When the oil is hot, add bay leaves, dry red chilies, mustard seeds, and turmeric powder. Fry for a few seconds until the spices release their aroma.
6. Now, carefully add the boiled dal to the kadai with the tempered spices. Let it boil for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
7. Once done, switch off the flame. Your Bengali Raw Mango Dal, or "Aam Dal," is ready.
8. Serve hot with steamed rice and enjoy the tangy goodness!
Note: Adjust the spice levels according to your preference. You can also garnish with fresh coriander leaves for added flavor.
