I've run about 100 rounds of ammo through this shotgun. Ranging from 00 buck to 7.5 clay/dove.. Have only had one jam in 4 months. Still my favorite AR-12 for the cost.
@@Gruntreviews Is there a stronger recoil spring we could get to replace the weak stock component? I’d like to be able to run 3in and it would be nice if the bolt found its way home without help. But like y’all mentioned for the price it’s not bad. Especially if changing out the spring will make it 💯.
@Oldsmokey the downside is there isn't s ton of aftermarket support. The bolt going home.may be more breakin related than spring related. I wonder if the vr80 components swap, there's support for those.
I just bought this gun and sadly only got to fire 1 round of 00 Buck. It was really easy on my shoulder and worked 100%. When I get some time I want to try some low brass and see how mine functions. I ❤️ gas operated shotguns. This one fits me nicely! After watching your review…thank you…I don’t have any issues for using this for home defense especially since I only use 2-3/4” 00 Buck high quality ammo. God bless and stay safe friend. It is super nice to know that I can run low brass now without any issues. Thank you so much. Maybe the best 249$ I ever spent on a shotgun👍
@@Gruntreviews hey man great review..but I'm trying to decide between getting this or the bullpup, which I've watched your review of as well..which one would you recommend first?
@@bettersalute that's a hard call. It's going to break down to your personal preferences. Bullpups do take a bit of retraining to adjust to, but function well. It's more of a question if you like a shorter platform that takes some practice to learn (reloads and manipulation) or if you want something more along the lines of a standard AR platform that is a bit longer.
@@Gruntreviews ok I will take all of that into consideration..kindve leaning toward the bullpup for Manuverability for home defense.. I appreciate the advice and quick response..I will make sure to subscribe and share all your vids👍
Great video! Shot mine for the first time today, feels good, I like it! Dad has a pricey saiga 12, but the balance on this is actually much better, as is recoil. Ran fine like you showed here!
Just got this and a 20 round drum from Classic Firearms (Defence Port - DRM-12 - 20 Round Drum Magazine), taking it to the range this weekend. Will let you know how it goes!
I was ALL ABOUT mag fed shotguns when they started to appear on the market (bought 3 different kinds). And yes, mag fed shotguns can be loaded more quickly than tube fed shotguns. However, you must already have pre-loaded magazines lying around.
Great review and test on different loads! But if you were to go with a heavier spring it will certainly make it picky on the ammo it’ll eat, probably wouldn’t like anything under 1250 fps. PSA has these for $250 and definitely looks to be worth the gamble after watching you vid.
I've always had good luck. I've had the 10rd mags do the same thing on other shotguns with lower power recoil springs. It helps to leave them fully loaded for a week to break them in. I did not do that with the 10 rounders in the video.
I thought We lived in America. Now we have RU-vid controlling what we show. Like. 30 round magazines All because of a few idiots out there. Now companies are doing exactly what America is not about controlling what you see and read, it is sad, but. I just bought that exact shotgun. And let me tell you it is bad a**I love it. Thank you for your review. It helped me tremendously.
Just an fyi, America is in fact run on capitalism. Therefore, a company can do whatever they want. The weirdest thing about America is people cry about all the "freedom" and then get mad when a company uses that same "freedom". RU-vid is not the government. RU-vid is a company owned by Google. They have the right in this country to make up whatever rules they want. Think of it this way. If I came in to your house and got in your face and told you that you HAVE to kiss my boots, would you? I bet not. I bet you'd actually tell me that I'm on YOUR property and that you don't have to do what I tell you even if I try to tell you about how "this is America!!".
Always, always, always... Clean, disassemble and function check all new weapons, especially those made outside of the US or military weapons, they are coated in cosmoline (type of grease for preservation).
Great Review! Just Subscribed! Looking to purchase the AR12. Needed info on Shell type to help with jam up. Mainly Run High Brass first so it'll run low brass?
That's the best order. Some good stout buck or slug helps get everything moving. Step down the velocity until you land on the light load you want to run.
Doesn’t take too well to a box of 3in hornady slugs but runs my federal and Winchesters perfect. I’m gonna try and load 9 as you said to see if It clears
Realistically, I'm not sure if I would fully trust my life to either. The turkish Imports are improving, but they ate not quite there yet on QC. If I had to select one of them, I would do the TBP just for the smaller size. The TAR is pretty long for use in confined spaces.
@@GruntreviewsWhat would you say is the cheapest semi-automatic detachable-magazine shotgun that you would feel able to rely on in a home defense situation? This is my first firearm in this category, and I'm still unsure if I should regret the purchase. I have plenty of other defensive weapons available, but a weapon I can't trust is one I don't want to own. Also, have you any idea where one might find M4 style or similar adjustable stocks? Being more than a foot taller than the wife can make finding long guns that fit tough, and you want to be able to operate the first weapon you can reach in an emergency, you know?
@johnalbers6422 big downside to these is no adjustable stock. It's a long LOP. It depends on your price range, but I'm not sure I'd trust these Imports in a SHTF/HD scenario
I like running 3" so not going down this road. I will stick with the Rock Island VPR40 pump Action. The VPR40 uses 5 & 9 mags., has 3 chokes, runs 2 3/4" and 3" just fine.
Wait, is this a pump action gun or mag fed? I am a newbie. It has great reviews on the Sportsmans Warehouse site. I guess I will have to go down this rabbit hole myself, but any feedback you have would be welcome. Thanks.
I got mine, but in the bag with the sights there are four small pins. Any idea what they are for? Doesn't say anything in the manual about them or the parts diagram.
Is it hard to take this gun apart to clean , and oil it ? I don't know much about working on guns , but I am a mechanic , so I am good at disassembling , and reassembling things .
@@WarPigs-f5o I have not handled a citadel. That being said, a lot of the turkish imports end up coming out of the same factory with different names on the side.
I’ll be picking mine up today. Any recommendations for ammo and cleaning before firing? I understand a firearm should run fine from the box but I’ve seen plenty of people having issues
I'd pull it apart and clean and lubricate everything. Break it in with a box of buck or slug and then keep stepping it down until you find the point it won't run. I recommend the black aces buckshot
When I Buy The Inexpensive Turk Shotguns.. I Clean It Very Well, I Then Sit And Cycle The Action 250, 300 Times Before Putting A Round Thru It.. Saves Irritation At Range.
It's all a matter of preference. Bullpup platforms are shorter and more mobile, but take some retraining to get used to the different placement of the controls. Ar12 is a bit more standard, but a longer platform.
You mentioned oil splatter. They come a lil gooey. Any new gun should be taken apart and cleaned. And all cosmoline removed and lubed with a good oil would probably help your feed and eject issues
Thinking about getting my son one for Christmas. Hes 17, and it would technically be his first gun. He shoots my guns all the time and recently found a passion for shotguns on a bird hunting trip. I was looking for something sub 300 bucks or so that's semi auto. Based off what I'm gathering these things need a little break in however overall I have to ask. if your a competent person and understand firearms mechanics and timing, have built pistols/ rifles ect.. can you get these to run okay or is there something else out there I should check out? I looked at the RIA however theres no stock an I feel like a stock would be helpful.. especially on a semi auto shotgun. Any input would be appreciated
These have a bit of a long length of pull, so if he has short arms, may pose a slight issue. All the turkish Imports (RIA, Tokarev, SDS, panzer, ect) are about the same quality. Some run great out of the box, some are terrible. Break in usually requires a box or two of hotter loaded buck or slug. I run all of my reviews as they come out of the box, no lube or cleaning.
@@Gruntreviews Hes a pretty big guy I dont think he would have any trouble but it does look long. I assume they had to make it a bit long to keep it from becoming an NFA item?
@thomasfrisch11 it will depend what you're hunting. You'll also want to check your local regulations on magazine size restrictions and purchase an appropriate magazine if necessary.
@@Gruntreviews copy, I just didn’t want the thing to explode on me due to ammo I’ve seen a review of that happening to someone. Thank you for quick response great channel!
Question about after receiving the tokarev from warranty, did it actually go back to Turkey for the work and at what price range should I expect. I've looked at the $ 260.00 so far, is that what I should expect ? Thanks
I bought a Kalashnikov Komrad about 1-1/2 years ago. Wanted a mag-fed 12ga with a shorter barrel, but didn't want to spend the $3,000 or so on the Fostech Origin. I have run probably 300 rounds thru it, 1oz slugs at 1,500-1,610fps, and maybe 75 rounds of the Black Aces 9 pellet 00 Buck at 1,425fps, and I only had 2 minor stovepipes in the first 30 rounds (slugs), one where I'm 99% certain it was me not shouldering (limp-wristing) the gun right because I was still learning where the trigger broke and I think my buddy who shot it that day did the same. I also think it was partly because I didn't clean the gun thoroughly enough before shooting it the first time. I just kinda wiped the thick/sticky storage grease off it, ran a little new gun oil over it, and ran it. After those 2 minor/easily cleared stovepipes, and after a good cleaning/lubing, I haven't had a single issue. I figure I bought it as a defensive gun, so, I have absolutely no urge or reason to run cheap low brass birdshot thru it and I'll run the high-power slugs and 00 Buck thru it, and so far, so issues. Definitely pricier than the Tokarev, but, I believe it's much higher quality AND will have better resale value. Now, what I REALLY want is for IWI to make a bullpup 12ga like my Tavor 7 instead of the TS12 they make. I mentioned that to the IWI guy I talked to over the phone some time ago....and he said to keep checking their website... ;). If they do that, I'll sell the Komrad. No offense to anyone that has or wants one of these, but, I wouldn't be interested in such a cheap firearm of any caliber, let alone a 12ga.
@@Gruntreviews Interesting, either I missed that on the other reviews I've seen or maybe you had a substandard one? So far, I've had only those 2 minor stovepipes as it was breaking in and before I gave it a good cleaning to remove the storge grease. They say the lower limit for ammo is 1,350fps, probably on the low-brass setting, but I ran the Black Aces 1,425fps on the high-brass setting and it ran fine. This was my first "AK pattern" anything, so, there are some things I don't like about the platform (charging handle on the right, no last round bolt hold open, have to take the optics off to clean it and hope QD left rail re-zero's), but overall I'm happy with it. Like I said though, if IWI makes a 12ga bullpup like my Tavor 7, the Komrad gets sold! Give it a try, I think you'll like it over the Tokarev.
@K X it's on my list to get done. I'm going to be a little behind on videos for the next couple months, currently recovering from a bad motorcycle accident. Got T boned by an inattentive driver.
@@Gruntreviews Oh shit! Damn, sorry to hear that! What were you riding? I've been riding for 40 years (sportbikes and picked up an ADV bike last year), and so far have been pretty lucky. Best of luck in your full and speedy recovery and suing the shit out of the idiot who hit you!
This is my FIRST Shotgun! I have tried firing Federal 12G 2 3/4" 1200fps 1 1/8 oz 7.5 Shot a few times but keeps jamming after I fire. Ejection Issue .. just not sure if I'm doing/did something wrong. Anyone know of the possible issue besides Operator Headspace & Timing?
I’m looking to purchase a semi auto shotgun and would like to know which one would you recommend between? TOKAREV TAR 12MP 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN 18.5" SEMI-AUTO, BLACK & SILVER - Or PANZER EGX500 12 GAUGE BULLPUP SHOTGUN 18.5" SEMI-AUTO, BLACK
I enjoyed shooting my Panzer AR-12 Gen 4 Friday to break it in. It's has a solid AR feel and is well built, but changing the pistons between high and low velocity was a pain.
So I got my tar. About 600 shells later, my upper and lower receiver separated without pulling any pins or unscrewing anything....did it just fuck'n break on me lmao????
@@Gruntreviews No not yet, hopefully tomorrow or the next day I'll have time between shifts. Got it last month so it should be all good if I can't fix it
Depending on the reviews...im planning to order one of these tonight!! Guess I'll be ordering one here in a few hours especially after i saw there's a 10rd magi can get for it...Easily a $700-$800 gun
Does anyone know how to secure a sling to the stock of the gun I purchased qd cups to put in the hole on the upper part of the stock and the qd cups don't fit any ideas
@@Gruntreviews sorry I’m a newbie when it comes to chokes, does that one come with the shotgun? The reason why I’m asking is because the guy that worked at the shop where I bought it from, said to run no choke with 00 buckshot
@mikecal9985 it should.come with cylinder, improved cylinder and IIRC, Improved modified. Cylinder is essentially running with no choke. You want to have that in so the choke threads don't get buggered up.
Awesome thank you for your response I was worried because I took it apart and didn’t see any instructions for putting it back but noticed the gas chamber nut sort of “clicks” towards the end of tightening it just making sure I did right by tightening it all the way down to the last click
Anyone having an issue with the upper and lower having an 1/8 inch of play or more after initial firing? Bought my son one this past Christmas and took it out to break it in today. Towards maybe his 25th shot, we started noticing miniature explosions inside the ejection port. While holding the pistol grip and barrel shroud, you can now push and pull the receivers apart. Any info found on this?
@@Gruntreviews Seems the slugs did well. I wonder if another brand of 3" shell would do better. The action seems stiff. I wonder if it will get better with time, or if there is a deeper issue with the gun. I want one no matter what. I'll keep it full of slugs, lol.
Most of the turkish shotguns require a bit of a break in. I run everything straight out of the box, no cleaning, no lube. Some of the stiffness may be remedied with a good clean and lube.
@@Gruntreviews oh wow, guess they really were scraping bottom, but hey nowadays it sub $250 SG, so for the people thinking it's going to be a Belgium Browning... Well, they'll be disappointed!
