This was when Tokyo was lawless and the capital at the time was still Kyoto. After that the Tokugawa warlord made Edo castle the de facto capital while the royal capital remained in Kyoto and the emperors power dwindled. Koyaanisqatsi and Lessons of darkness style. The true horror is how Japan so casually build such super projects at quite the pocket change, if compared to even the individual wealth of many individuals from the US for example. Makes you truly wonder how corruption world wide is not about profiting from the economy but merely hoarding the wealth to give it nowhere near the great use it deserves.

Typhoon Hagibis (2019) trivia: this Underground Discharge Channel can impound 670K M3. Upstream of this water tank, there is another special reservoir to prevent massive flood; the Watarase Reservoir is capable to hold up to 170M M3. Again, a new flood preventive dam has been finished in the mountains just before the typhoon Hagibis passed over Japan. The new dam can impound approx. 120M M3. From Oct. 12 to 13, those facilities were almost full of the storm sewage, over 90 % of each full capacity, leading to just 1 dead in Tokyo area (as of Oct.21). Anyway, Japan's been spending huge money and time on flood control so far.

1:50, I’ve been doing some research, and I’m pretty sure NYC is in the ideal location for a major city. There is room to grow but not enough for the city to sprawl endlessly. It is situated on one of the worlds largest deep water harbors. And it has near surface bedrock to allow skyscrapers and other large constructions to be built cheaper. On top of that it is in a very stable climactic region with no fault lines or tornado areas
