I hope you all enjoyed the energy and vibes of this festival, as well as the food scenes! If you have any questions about things, let me know in the comments down below! Cheers!

Shrine carrying looks too much like hard work,great video Cory😁
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 5 лет назад
Oh, it definitely is hard work. The larger ones can weigh over 1 ton! And it's also really hot weather and body against body heat... people definitely swap out and someone else comes in to take their spot. I think there are always 2 extra teams on the side so they can always rotate throughout the day and take breaks as the shrine keeps moving forward.

Cory, fascinating footage of the festival. Really enjoyed what you shared with us. I would enjoy the food as well as the sights! Some day maybe. Thanks

Hopefully, I can enjoy many more festivals across Japan! While growing up here as a child and teenager, I only ever visited local festivals. I never travelled to see the festivals in other regions of the country. That's a goal of mine now!

Hey, I’m glad you made it over to SANJA. Great video you put together showing the variety of sights, unique sounds and festival cuisine that all add to the total MATSURI experience. Your shots of the O-mikoshi are intense - my still photos alone can not instill the craziness/energy/excitement that you captured with video. So now that you’ve experienced Sanja, you’ll see how addicting it is year after year. Thanks for sharing Cory. ありがとうございます😊

Thanks Bryan! Glad you enjoyed the video, and thanks for sharing it on Facebook as well! While growing up in Japan, I never really went to these large festivals. I only experienced local festivals in the areas that I lived, and they were never on this large of a scale. I missed the Kanda festival and the other one... I forget the name, but including Sanja, they're the 3 biggest religious festivals in Tokyo. I can't wait to properly capture future events! Will you be returning to Tokyo for Sanja and other festivals?

hahaha Yeah, being squeezed between 2 sweaty bodies in the hot sun, while shouldering a shrine that can weigh over 1 ton... it's tiring for sure! Thanks for watching Jim!

Great video, Cory. We have something similar here in the Philippines called Sinulog Festival in late January. It is most famous in Cebu but celebrated all across the country in honor of Santo Niño, the child Jesus. I hope your fortune comes true. Cheers!

Oh wow, that's very interesting. Do they carry a shrine like this on their shoulders? Or is that the festival where they drag around very large crucifixes? Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

They put the antique statue on a float, but people carry small statues everywhere. There is also a fluvial parade a day or two before the main event. It's a massive affair. Hope you can see it for yourself one day. But I must warn you, it gets extremely crowded. Prepare to rub elbows, faces, and everything else in the streets packed with people like sardines. Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed it, Christine! Yeah, it was awesome to see how dedicated they were in the entire festival. I read that the bigger mikoshi can weigh more than 1 ton and cost over $350,000 to build! There are even bigger ones in other regions of Japan... HUGE! I don't even want to guess how much those weigh...

Hope you had a great time! :-) Everyone seems to show up for the festivals - the food has to be a draw it always looks so good. The people carrying the shrines always chant, what are they saying? Am sure it helps them keep there rythme so they move together. Thanks for sharing! How's the job search going?
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 5 лет назад
Glad you enjoyed the video Donelle! ^^ The people are definitely chanting words to keep a rhythm. There are a variety of words used, and different words are used in different regions of Japan. It's almost like in English when people march and say "left, right, left, right" as they step. I've got some job leads through some friends, fingers crossed everything goes well!

i had to turn away when you were eating that fish, GUTS STILL INSIDE?????!!! aha i know you didn't eat the guts but fish terrify me! very cool festival! i was really interested in those burrito looking things at the start of the food portion of this video! wonder what was inside! great content as usual! will there be any festivals in October ? like speh-shuleeeeeeeeee ones
@CoryMay81
@CoryMay81 5 лет назад
LOL Sorry to gross you out or scare you, Danielle. Yep, the guts were fully cooked inside, so it was easy to avoid eating them. I just ate all the meat and then threw the rest away. Ah, yes, the giant burrito looking thing is called Okonomiyaki. It's like a giant fried batter pancake with all sorts of fillings, like cabbage, cheese, meat, etc. There are many varieties. I would have tried to film it but they're so big for just 1 person. I didn't want to waste food. Too bad they don't sell like a smaller portion for 1 person only. Yes, in October there are quite a number of autumn-related festivals. There's several lantern festivals, horseback archery, huge 4 meter tall dolls, and much more. So many that I can't list them all here. I can't wait to try and film these things for you to enjoy!
