We're glad you enjoyed some of our exploits in England. We just wanted to make clear that these episodes were filmed before the pandemic, and Tom has been following the advice of his local health professionals since.
@MAD DOG -- There are very few "abandoned cars." Most are neglected and ignored, but owned by someone. There is no need to contact the state, just find the owner and negotiate a purchase. Good luck!
I greatly enjoy Barn Find Hunter. And for Tom to find a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo in England. Wow! I do wish an under hood shot had been done as they were the only Trans Ams ever built with a V6. The Buick 3.8 with different cylinder heads than the Grand National. Happy Hunting!
Good to hear mate, glad that Tom is NOT being a bloody Trumper wanker and saying science and the WHO are rubbish. Tom should be on his mittens since COVID is a boomer remover! You yanks are buggered.
Parking cars outside in Europe is tragic. I parked a second car in front of a lock-up I own - it sat there for seven years and I never thought the water would get in, but it did. Inside resembled a botanical greenhouse. I have learned my lesson. A car you treasure = garage.
Yeh... in winter the material shrinks, and in summer it stretches. The seals dont survive this over the years... water will get in at some point, even if the car is newish and in a good condition. With newer cars there is the problem that a lot of the control units are located somewhere low in the car, like in the boot. When they get in contact with water... well, RIP.
I think its just the way houses are built in the US thats different. You guys tend to have big front lawns, with the house moved away from the road. In most other countries its the other way, where the house is out towards the road, with a back yard thats bigger.
Tom, great to see you in Europe. When I lived in North Yorkshire I met a guy who owns Carnell classic cars (name of website is the same) and he has a few unrestored cars in containers that he wants to restore and quite the garage himself full of interesting cars and stories. Definitely worth emailing him. Anyway I’ve since moved to the Netherlands and if you need any help finding something unexpected let me know.
Pete was hilarious! Y'all could do a whole show on just him, for like an hour or more. What a fun episode this was, though -- I do hope y'all filmed more in the UK. Looking forward to seeing it, if you did.
@@d.vincent6190 he should go to dubai instead lol, there are 200k dollar old cars sitting in front of chops for decades, would be cool to know whats the story with all the rare abandoned cars there
Tom, that 1989 trans am, was it purchased at Acon Pontiac in Midland PA, brand new?? If so my grand father, father and two uncles owned that dealership, I know there is a a white 89 trans am GTA in England that was originally purchased from our family dealership, just wondering if this is the one, that would be so cool if it is!! My name is Rob Acon I worked at the dealership in highschool and I'm a huge car guy!!
Destruction of the traditional England for the sake of never ending population growth. Had they controlled immigration they would not need to destroy and keep increasing the housing density. But we know it is all about the votes (the new people will vote who enabled their migration) and money (kick backs, future employment and other rewards for signing the papers).
Sadly the above is the truth, smaller towns just keep expanding into their surrounding countryside with green land built on with endless "orange" new build houses. Politicians just want economic "growth" as their highest priotity, but their legacy will be the lowering of the quality of life for a lot of people.
@@From_Canada But true. Can't find anything interesting in England. Same old MGs, Defenders, crappy Rovers and Morrises, some hideous makes I've never heard of, plus some occasional Mini.
This episode could have honestly been well over an hour and I would have been more than please to have watched all of it. I know there is more content from the U.K. coming, but I would have loved an hour long session each. The information from every second is truly amazing. Love this series, and I hope for the best that this will continue on. From a Canuck," this is pretty frickin' great eh, right doug?"
@@HighSockDavid thank you for asking! :) Their entire garden is a big mess so last satueday we cleaned most of that so the van would be able to get out. Now we need to see what our next step is, as the garages are nearly collapsing and they are full of bicycles and other stuff. But the van looked in bad condition, but not bad enough to the point where you can not save it. So I still have no idea when we can get it out hahaha
@@ilikepants7328 ehhh I wish. We broke up september last year. And we no longer speak to eachother. Quite a bummer, as I really thought it would've been a cool project for us together. Well, sometimes things take a different turn when you don't really want them to.. In the meantime, I have actually bought an '83 Beetle! So I have still joined the Volkswagen family, luckily!
It was nice to see that the first guy had some nice cars in the garage. Those ones outside were beyond repair except for the AMG but it had a lot of rot in it.
I cannot believe it but the folks you met with on this trip are some of the funniest and nicest chaps I have ever seen. (Chaps right?) But one man towers over all the others and that goes to Bernie for his humor and candor. Thank you for the smiles today. Cheerio.
My dad has a GILBERN INVADER MK3 and it's been in the garage at the bottom of the garden which is in need of some TLC but it's not been running since the very early 2000s.its a very rare car, the only Welsh production sports car made in 1972 in church village near pontypridd.youre welcome to come look at it and we live in South Wales. he also has a AUSTIN 10/4 wasting away in the other garage.
You see it a lot around the uk. Generally a mouldy cover covering something that’s been sitting for years on a small drive. A guy round the corner from me had a Lamborghini Countach under a cover. The Car must have be worth four times the price of the House.
I've worked on two of those RHD AMG 500SEC's here in Australia, one was imported by Bob jane and a mate has a 500SEL AMG with the same blowerset up .Strettons were the English AMG agents and did a few of them . Walkinshaws built two XJS's which won atBathurst. when actual cars raced there. The split axle on the Allard (think F truck...) was designed by Ballamy who used it successfully on his racing efforts. Allards Father was a London Ford Dealer and they were involved with Arcus Duntov and his Ardun heads.\ The flattie is a French one, they were still making them for the military right up to the 80's.
I cant wait till he gets to italy... OMG... it just amazes me that my idol crossed the pond... he is living the dream... i mean literally... more power to Tom and the crew!!!
Unbelievable. Lifelong car guy, moved from the States to London eight years ago...and the legend Tom Cotter is a 10 minute walk from my house to check out a car I've never spotted. London is filled with little garages that I'm convinced are holding amazing classics. There's a block of six or eight of them nearby that I'm dying to get inside. And old Moggies, a Saab 96, a Spitfire, a Herald and a bright red Kaiser Manhattan all hanging out on the street near me in various states of health. And by the way, every bit of the stick Tom gets - "aluminium", "Jag-u-ar", "colonies" - is true to life here as a Yank. Can't wait for the next episode!
Absolutely spiffing old bean....great to see you here in the UK. Near where I live in Leedstown, Cornwall, a guy has 30+ Jaguars that he's collected over many years and loves to show people around for a small donation for the Air Ambulance. Enjoy your time here Tom.
@@blahblahblahblah2837 Yeah, I have only seen the Cortina over here once many years ago. I wanna say it would have been termed an economy sized car here at the time.
@@thyslop1737 Im in Aus and tbh I don't see many cortinas around anymore either. Maybe they didn't survive well or people didn't think they were worth holding onto
About 30 years ago an acquaintance took me for a ride around Miami in his Cad-Allard roadster. I was not driving but even so I could tell it was a beast when he got on it.
*_Most interesting thing about the 89 Turbo Trans AM is It's faster than the GNX turbo Buick because of a better perfected turbo set up and is listed as GM fastest turbo car of the 80s. Why he didn't pop the hood to show it off is amazing..._*
Great story on the Allard. I'm in Sydney Australia and run a hinged front axle on my T Bucket very similar to the Allard. The hinge is behind the licence plate so most people think its a traditional dropped axle. It also runs rack & pinion steering. Most people don't think it would work properly but it drives like a sports car.
This was the happiest and the most hilarious episode of the Barn Hunter I've ever seen! :D Only one I've seen outside of the US. UK guys are damn nice and funny! Thank you very much for this
I was waiting for Tom to come over to Europe! It is harder to "Barnfind" cars over here but they are there! If you happen to still be around and plan a trip to germany i would have some interesting contacts for you! ;)
Welcome to my side of the pond Tom 👍🏼 Those cars at the beginning sadly look beyond rescue. If you see ruts on the outside of a British classic the rust underneath will be twice as bad 🙈 it brings a new meaning to the word rust 🤣
the Proper English Weather really gets after their Autos, rusting them from Boot to Bonnet, but hopefully this episode will get some of these Royal Jewels back on the blacktops.
Here's me: Tom....... Tom. That's a Trans Am hood standing on the side of the garage. Tom..... 3rd gen car, Tom. You've been to my garage. We have to talk about the 3rd gen Trans Am that's found its way across the pond. TOM!
We found out later that it didn't have ANY gas(petrol)! Haha! As soon as he put some in it fired right up! We just weren't around with the cameras. 🤷🏻♂️
Back in the seventies I lived in London and had a 1955 Olds Super 88 convertible. I bought a spare 324 ci engine for it from a guy in Croydon and he was an Allard collector.
