@@videolad3057 Before I say anything I hope you are not about to start an argument about who likes the new Blink song and who don't. That would be pointless. So I think the new Blink song has nothing left from the Blink sound I remember from high school. I think that sound partly if not fully was coming from Tom, who now is working something else. So many and myself are missing Tom from Blink.
@@cefre00 I didn't... It was not alive, just dull and lifeless. Tom and Mark were the heart and soul behind the band. It's honestly due on no small part to Travis Barker for splitting the band up on and off so long ago. I think it allowed Tom to wander off at the peak of their success and here we are. I would be cool with Tom doing the vocals as well as some guitar stuff if only for the album and the imposter Tom aka *Tom DeDingus* doing the live shows. I don't like the new guy, he's an impersonator.
i agree... i was so stoked for the album following that EP and then was hugely let down when they split up again. I love Matt Skiba and all of his work outside of blink, but it's like he's trying to be "pop punk" and that's not his true style.
I can see Tom as an old man talking to his grandkids. "Have I ever told you about that one time I talked to that General in the back of an empty restaurant?" Kids, "Yes grandpa... 100 times..."
OMG Thank YOU! Exactly what I thought. How can this guy, in like 10 seconds, crack a joke to make me - a 32 year old man - laugh the same way I did when I was 16? He is one of the biggest reasons Blink succeeded to the level they did above every other punk band. He's charming, and just a lovely dude.

It is just one of the many signs of the prolonged addiction to medication that lingers. His weight gain and lower voice are also other obvious signs.
I got to see them with my chem during this era , I liked the album but truthfully I think they need to just retire the name completely. It’s like a failed relationship that 2 people keep coming back to. Let it go already. I like alkaline trio but I have not cared to listen to fake 182 since then.
Let's hope he never destroys that legacy. Letters to God pt II was enough of a disgrace on that band's legacy. Boxcar racer was created during Tom's best period before their self-titled. That was his best era. Now in the last 10 years it's been his worst.
Would have loved blink to evolve in a more Ghost on the Dancefloor kinda sound as that song is so good. Also I can imagine the adventure live would be an incredible series.
i think the dogs eating dogs EP was better than most of neighborhoods, so if you evaluate both efforts as an entity, i think i'd say i like dogs eating dogs better
Dude ranch was their best Album. Everything was downhill after that. It's cool that enema made lots of money with mainstream kids that listened to whatever was on their TV, but that was really more about being in the right place at the right time. It was so over produced that none of the songs sounded genuine and came off as being corny. Their brand of self loathing humor didn't quite hit the mark like the older stuff. But hey, the herd masses loved it and they put on a great live show so it wasn't all bad. 😉
i do agree with his ideas about the direction blink "should've" went. neighbourhoods was good, if it had a bit more grit ie untitled and boxcar then it'd be perfect IMO
That's one aspect I miss about having Tom in blink. Tom always had an idea of where he wanted to go. Mark and Travis never really had an idea of how they wanted to evolve. _Maybe_ they do now since they're finally experimenting but I feel like Tom just always knows what he wants to do and does it really well.
He was ruining the band, I understand why it caused a Rift. The best part about punk is that it stays punk. All the heavy drug use was taking him down a different path. Hopefully they'll do a reunion tour once day. But he just lost that talent part of his brain and people don't come back from that. On the plus side tho, Matt Skiba is one of the best lyricists of all time, so hopefully the new blink album will reflect that. I hope Mark let's him contribute
@@dog8438 I agree that Tom was the core direction of the band, but Hoppus did depart in some ways. He has the main writing credit for Adam's Song, for instance.
@@PunkRockZombie205 i'm sorry but the lyrics of the most recent blink is....not good. if skiba is as good as a lyricist as people keep saying (i never listened to much of alkaline), it isn't being shown in blink's stuff right now.
I love Tom, from blink to boxcar to angels he's my favorite artist. Undeniably passionate. I love the soaring epic aspect of AvA that's why I wasn't a big fan of the last album because it was a bit of a departure from that, but I loved WDNTW, iEmpire, and the two Love albums looking forward to the new one! At the same time I'm afraid he's woefully off the mark on the UFO thing. I think there's a strong amount of self denial that it takes to end up that deep in it. I think that's where a lot of his tics come from. But always hoping the best for Tom
Musically, the dream walkers was easily his best work hence he finally got good reviews from critics. The whole album has soaring choruses. I love WDNTW but the music was beginning I become ridiculously stale and stagnant.
Thanks so much for this interview! I haven't seen any interview before where Tom seems so down to earth and cohesive in his replies. Him explaining what he wanted blink to be was a real eye opener when he gave more backstory into what this meant to him.
You can tell Neighborhoods was Tom's direction for Blink. It had the sound and appeal. Unfortunately, the time wasn't right and alot of people disliked it. As an AVA fan, i loved the album.
Probably my favourite human in the world that isn't a family member, been a fan of this dude since 2001, will always support him! He is more than blink and clearly was the soul of the band, sad to see the state of the blink now
i love how tom is always incorporating new things to his music, and i think mark and to some extent travis helped him in blink to keep it grounded and moving when AVA is just kinda... ambitious but convoluted
That's why I think the 3 of them make the best music, together. When they are all doing their own thing, I think Tom does it the best but I think he does better with Mark and Travis
@@dog8438 yeah i agree with something like that, probably travis and mark did really great with +44, i feel +44 and ava were really good when they both started, then +44 disappeared and now tom is not that great alone imo, we shall see with the new album... i would say the dream walker was a step in the right direction somehow, but i dont know if he will follow it up with something that makes enough sense and that is at least of the same quality.
For any fans of Tom, AVA, and Blink, i highly recommend you watch the Ernie Ball Documentary: The Pursuit of Tone. It's absolutely remarkable. Tom is so amazing and captivating and you get to really take a dive into Tom's mind and I absolutely love it. Give it a check! Pretty sure there's a full version on youtube as well!
I fucking loved the neighborhoods album because the sound like he said, it had taken the musical growth he got from a&a and added it to blink and I loved itttt so many didn’t get it but it was the most fun and feeling and was them growing up but everyone was stuck on their old sound but now look what their newer sound without him has become but now how many fans are happy with that now smh 🙄
Very Nice speach, especially at the end - I couldn't agree more about our lack of knowledge about the universe and our closemindness on major life topics - not everything should be about 9-5 Job or career ~ life should be more about exploring and experiencing New things that interasting you 🙂 And I love the Neighbourhoods album - in my opinion, Blink should go more in that direction.. But then again - we have AVA to cover that space so.. can't wait to hear the New album 🚀🌙

I hate to say it but blink was blink in their height because of their producer Jerry Finn. Without him they just lost their touch, all of them. R.I.P. Jerry.
SunHead so blink was only as good as they were in their heyday because of Jerry Finn? They guy was a legend no doubt, but to take away from Mark, Tom and Travis and say they’re nothing without him is incredibly disrespectful. Seriously, I can’t stress how instrumental Finn was in pop-punk in general but I’m sure Green Day and MxPx would still also be as good if Finn wasn’t producing their early albums.
My vision of a perfect AVA album would be that after the release I can write this coment: "Producer: How many synthetizers you want on this album - Tom: Yes".
I started really listening to Blink 182 in 2002. I was 12 at the time. I then got Boxcar Racer, and Angels & Airwaves came out when I was in grade 10. Man I really fell in love with that band. I still look forward to new songs. Just love the sound of A&A.
Man, Neighborhoods was my favorite album. I couldn’t imagine Blink going further with that sound, itd be too good to be true. I honestly hate the new direction Blinks taking.
I remember going to see blink at Warped when they just got back together and just before playing All the Small Things Tom shouted "This is a song I wrote about my penis!" lol
I'm glad Blink didn't go the way of Ghosts on the Dancefloor because it sounds too much like AVA. However, I hate the direction Blink has gone with their new singer

sooo, is it like universally accepted that mark is pretty much ruining blink? Most of us seem to think tom had the right idea as for where blink 182 should've went after neighborhoods. Angels and Airwaves is great, but it's really missing travis' creative force on the kit.
I agree. Travis's style will keep blink alive. AvA needs to get their sound back that made them great from the first 3 album. I like what Tom is saying here. I hope he can deliver.
Mark has been unwilling to change and it’s evident he is the reason Tom is no longer a part of Blink. Mark got jealous and butthurt when Tom and Travis did Boxcar Racer but that was the first time Tom wanted to change the sound and Mark wasn’t down. Then Tom did Angels and Airwaves because he wanted to take the sound in a different direction and Mark again is unwilling to change.
Es lo bueno de Tom, AVA es un reflejo de su madurez musical, Blink 182 fue solo una etapa y los sonidos que logro y las canciones que hace en AVA son definitivamente una muestra de ello, soy fan de ambas bandas, pero sin dudas AVA siempre logra sorprenderme.

Not hating I've lived on blink for over 15 years but I noticed tonight every video with the real blink "Mark, Tom, Travis" has on average 10 -30+ million views up till Neighborhood's. Now they are 500k - 2 million on average per video. Say what you want but there's no denying Tom should be in Matt's position right now, Numbers don't lie.🤘

Not a big supporter of angles and airwaves and don’t believe in ufos, but Tom is my idol and always will be. I love him and always will. I grew up on his voice and humor.
