Tom Hiddleston Explains Avatar To Chris O'Dowd 

When watching this did anyone else feel like you just walked up on their random conversation at a party and they're just hanging out like normal peeps? LOL

This is hilarious, not only in hindsight because Chris O'Dowd is in The Dark World, but also because Tom's so earnestly explaining what happened in Avatar.

Does anyone else just watch these type of videos to hear Tom talk, because that's enough to make me wanna watch it 😍

I love Tom. I remember him saying once that he never felt like he was worth listening to, i love how he stood his ground.

I aprecciate how Tom sees more deep things in a film like "Avatar", which was entirely underestimated for many critics about its story. I've heard to much people watching "Avatar" only like THE FIRST 3D MOVIE and nothing more. But Tom sees beyond that and get something really wise of it.

The way he puts his tongue in-between his teeth when he laughs puts a smile on my face every time ... absolutely adorable

oh and tom is so calm and he speaks so beautifully while the other guy is yelling and interrupting. SUCH CLASS.

Everyone gets so offended by Chris, it's hilarious. He's a comedian, and just having the craic with Tom and the interviewer - surely anyone can see that? People only consider him overly vociferous because Tom is such an articulate, gentlemanly guy.

Poor Tom looks like he's trying to have a conversation with a drunk person. I really want to know what he was going to say when he said "If I was Sam..."! Especially considering it started with "I'd have gone there", referring to Zoe Saldana.

I love Chris O'Dowd's way of thinking.

I notice how every time when Tom talks, he looks and stares at people eyes, that's a sign of sincerity, honesty and politeness (obviously what the other guy Chris is lacking of and seem to want all the attention and all the argument) meanwhile Tom is there waiting patiently for his turn and letting him finish. What a gentleman! That's why I love him so much!

This video is very revealing about both Tom and Chris O. With Tom, you get a clear idea of how earnest he is, how devoted he is to cinema, and how smart and knowledgeable he is about his craft. He's a total English gentleman, politely but firmly disagreeing with Chris. He sticks to his guns in the argument, but you can tell he's more focused on getting across to Chris than on just winning the argument or scoring points. He's clearly coming from a good-natured perspective. When Chris says something negative about Zoe Saldana, Tom jumps right in to praise her professional abilities. Throughout the whole thing, he seems to be trying to help Chris out of the hole he is digging for himself by engaging him on an intellectual level. He's respectful throughout and totally unfazed by Chris' odd behavior. Personally, I would probably have been uncomfortable, even offended by some of the things Chris said. Unfortunately, Chris comes across very poorly. It may just be that he'd had too much to drink, but he's really negative and really insulting about Avatar and Cameron, for some unknown reason. And he just won't let it go. He should not have been making comments like that in front of a camera--out of professional courtesy, but also just out of self-preservation. Even his initial approach, interrupting Tom's interview, is aggressive (actually, that part is cut off in this video). The worst part, to me, is when he's talking about Zoe. So sexist and inappropriate, fixating on her sex appeal, as if that had anything to do with her talent. It's disrespectful. Plus, he's just wrong about Avatar. (I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but Tom's meta is very convincing.) Maybe Chris resented losing the award to Tom. Maybe this was just a bad day. Maybe he was still new to Hollywood and hadn't learned to watch what he says in front of cameras yet. At least he was transparent about what he really thinks, but what he really thinks totally changed my opinion of him.

Yeah. You can see that Tom genuinely likes the film and can understand the motives and feelings of the characters and all the deep themes.

Perhaps, Tom would have gotten to it eventually, but the film is about colonialism and its relationship to resource extraction. Avatar mirrors what has happened, for instance, in Guatemala, where Canadian mining companies have literally burned villages down, raped and plundered to get valuable land for mining. Might be considered too controversial a topic for the carpet.

Most actors when you see them outside of a role, you don’t see them as that character. Everytime I watch Tom I see Loki. His expressions his attitude his way of speaking, Tom truly wove Loki out of himself, most amazing fun yet tragically torn and heartbroken, character ever in movies, thanks Tom. 😍

Chris is so funny! He seems like one of those people that just loves to talk to you, he seems really down to earth!

It will be interesting if Zoe Saldana's marvel character (from Guardians) ever encounters Loki and they get to work together. I'd like to see that dynamic between the actors, but I haven't seen Guardians yet so I don't know what the dynamic would be like w/ the characters.

Poor Tom is trying to talk sense to this guy, who is probably half drunk and in love with his own voice. LOL He also has that earnest look that only true nerdy boys get when they try to explain something important to them that no one else cares about, like the color of light sabers and things like that. I heart him so much.

This video provides Tom can hangout with anyone n find something to talk about n have fun .cause him n Chris are very different yet Tom wasn't offended or Arrogant Towards Chris who was drunk and had actually lost to Hiddleston that night .He also defended Zoe acting n how much effort she put into it Avatar ❤ that he is always willing to stand up for others in a very none jerkish n none arrogant way .

And don't get me wrong, I love O'Dowd, but chances are he was probably drunk so he might not have really realized he was being rude by interrupting him. But I agree, Tom is just a gentleman all around and he's not the type to get angry over something like that.

The visuals were great but when I first watched it, I cried and got so excited because the Na'vi reminded me so much of Native Americans, to the Navajo to the Plains Indians, and the story to me was these indigenous humble creatures who were so connected with the Earth that their power derived from it and here these foreigners try to take it away as monsters and the climax was to fight back and to try to hold on to that sense of lifestyle, so excuse me if you think there wasn't a story...

Yeah, I feel the same. I think he genuinely does love the film and can understand it on a deeper level, how it relates to people, etc. That's the way we fans go overboard analyzing the stuff we like. And Chris is just like, they bomb a tree, that's all there is to the movie.

I feel so sorry for Tom here. He's clearly annoyed by the harsh oversimplification of the movie, but he keeps getting cut off, and refuses to do the same. He's trying to be polite, and you know what, I commend him for that.

I love this video. Chris O'Dowd's summary of Avatar is so funny and kinda accurate. For those girls with a really unhealthy obsession with Hiddleston, Tom is a gentleman he won't interrupt a person talking to him or get angry about it. If he did those things, he WOULDN'T be a gentleman.

Chris O make it sound like it was a waste to cast Zoe S. Because you couldn't see her "hotness" I think they picked her because she is a talented actress, not only for her looks.

They're both right. It's a quality movie with great underlying themes, but it's a story we've all seen before. And pardon my probable bias, being a 90s kid, but it wasn't quite as heartfelt as Pocahontas, perhaps due to the lack of singing.
