I love the fact that even though Tom's voice is incredible and he's keeping up strongly with Little Richard, not once does he try to show off or steal the show. They're both thoroughly enjoying themselves and both sound incredible, absoloute legends, hats off to them :)
No lip-synching! No retakes! Just pure, unadulterated talent, lies and uncut! You can literally feel the power in those notes this was done decades ago. Wow.
True! And most people don't (really) appreciate the 'Soul' of this Welsh kid's voice. His hips stole the show and scared away the male album buyers (imo). But its funny-- I thot the very same thing at 4:35...4:54! GOOD STUFF!
Another electric performance is Tom Jones and Janis Joplin, belting out "Raise Your Hand" on his show. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mZmiefQ5y4U.html
Stefan Altocumulus I have to agree, there’s no argument he’s a great singer and other rockers will (reluctantly) say the same but to the vast majority of people he’s the guy playing Vegas singing “What’s New Pussycat”, it’s the same reasoning someone like Cher couldn’t get in though she’s done some great soul music on her own
@@jimschmidt1958 At one time he said, "If Elvis is the King of Rock and Roll, I'm the Queen." He ended his life as a preacher and he said, "If Jesus can save an old queen like me, he can save you."
Yes tom had the luck to do duets with the 2 kings of rockn roll piano jerry lee lewis and little richard. Is there duets tom jones and the king of rock n roll guitar chuck berry?
The "King" has always referred to Elvis, at least in my recollection. Off hand, I can't think of a catchy one-word term for LR. I was in my mid-teens back then. And still have 2 or 3 of his ancient LPs.
@@therespectedlex9794 Little Richard was fantastic and a pioneer, but Tom kept up with him, like he did in every duet on his show, regardless of genre.
Tom Jones got a bad rap early on. Many of us who like rock didn't like his image at 1st. He did grow on us as time went on and he got his accolades. At 1st, for me, he came on as to clean cut looking for the music he was singing when he sang rock songs. His look fit the ballads he sang perfectly I thought. And Elvis was the man and I thought overshadowed Tom Jones's talent.
@@bertpainter8385 Elvis was the original which is always going to overshadow look alike talents even if that talent is fantastic in their own right. Jones was also a singer only and not a song writer which severely hampered any artist from that era during transitional periods because they couldn’t adapt to societal shifts in musical tastes (unless they got lucky with song writers)
Yeah. Richard was more than holding his own here . Especially on the killer slow tune . I love Tom Jones but he had this grin on all the time. Power to spare, however.
My goodness. Just going through every Tom Jones performance with all of these rock legends and he absolutely burns up the stage in every single instance. The man is an amazing performer with an absolutely monstrous set of pipes.
Tom was highly influenced by Little Richard growing up and also Jerry Lee Lewis and Brook Benton...you can hear all their voices in his vocal sound and depending what type of song he's singing...
@@aburrage7697 Macon Georgia is preserving Little Richard's home he and his 11 siblings was raised in. We're proud to say he's one of us. Thanks Richard for all your great music.
@@lisaellis9749 Except Tom Jones is Welsh. Admittedly he wasna there at the very beginning like Little Richard, Elvis and Jerry Lee, but when he goes into it he smashes it with the very best of them.
Did you know that he washed dishes at the bus station and was singing one day and saw the reaction of some young folks sitting at the counter and flash he has an idea and the rest if history. Tutti Friutti.
Nice to see that when it comes to music, there's no matter of skin color around. These two were having a ball singing together and it shows. Only music can give you this 👍
It's White people who have so much problem accepting people who don't look like them. Don't come over here with rhat "no skin color " crap as if YOU aren't the ones who created it!
I used to watch the Tom Jones show every week, he always had the best acts and would always showcase their talents before his, even though he could easily hold his own with any talent out there.
Yes, my mother and I always watched the Tom Jones show too. He had the best of the best on there, & his duets were so entertaining. Mama loved Little Richard too. Every time he was on television her eyes were glued to the set.
Declined Also Declined Did you watch Tom's show with Jerry Lee? It's fully as good as the Little Richard one - in fact I actually prefer it. It's on YT as well.
His high quality series of shows were the 2nd most expensive in the history of tv at 600 million dollars in today's money. Dean Martin's were THE most expensive at 850 million dollars in today's money.
Those 122 people don't know what great music is. Two of the best singers alive. I've been a Tom Jones fan since I was eleven. Old enough to know that boys hide something in their pants but not old enough to know what it was
Music has always been a major love in my life. My very first musical memory was seeing Little Richard on TV, and thinking, " I dont know what this is, BUT I LIKE IT! I raised all my children on good music and I played all different kinds of music for my middle son when he was a baby, and his favorite CD was Little Richard. Go figure.
Piano? Surely Little Richard's main thing was that great, powerful, bluesy rockin' voice of his. He was wonderful. But when it comes to rockin' piano, it's all about Jerry Lee Lewis.
Is unbelieveble that Sir Tom Jones still have this powerfull voice on these days. I love the rythim of Little Richard. A simple and amazing rock 'n roll. This is rock 'n roll, the true rock 'n roll. Would like to give a thousand likes for this.

Man i love this colab but at the beginning i find it so funny the way the camera goes straight to their faces and tom and little Richard going right at it
Yes it. They should they are great I would loved to sing like that that's what u call music I love a lot of music. Blues soul southern music bluegrass gospel
I am 46 years old while I am writing this.I never knew Tom Jones had chops like that!. My bad for dissing him all these years. He is a complete vocalist after listening to this. Tom Jones is a king of vocals!
I'm 62 and been listening to Tom Jones since I was a kid. He more than holds his own with all of the legends he paired with on his TV show. I consider him the greatest male popular singer. Deep down soulful but when he belts out a ballad, his power is operatic. Just amazing.
@Curtis Ostriker Elvis's career started in 1954. It's doubtful that he would have known anything about Little Richard before he hit the big time with Tutti Frutti a year later. However, that's a minor point. You're right that LR did have a huge influence overall, whether or not Elvis was influenced by him.
@@gynack Think it’s more about the fact that many of the legendary musical influencers of modern music like the Beatles etc were heavily, if not predominantly influenced by little Richard
@@dundalis Wikipedia has a section on the Beatles' musical influences. They mention Little Richard, but make no suggestion of him being their predominant influence. Presley was apparently important, and there were others like Chuck Berry, the Eerly Brothers and Buddy Holly,
Felipe GS YEAA Tom Jones got SOULLL he’s terrific but he doesn’t outshine Little Richard, Little Richard is PHENOMENAL. Just listen to his tone of voice, there’s nothing like him
