"It's Not Unusual" was Tom Jones breakthrough hit in 1965 that started his legendary music career. This performance of that song on The Ed Sullivan Show was the shortened version. There are live performances of Tom Jones performing that song in its entirety. Another more up-tempo song from Tom Jones that I think you will enjoy is "She's A Lady." It was his highest-charting song on the pop charts. Other great songs that really showcase Tom Jones great voice are "Delilah" and "Love Me Tonight" . He's now 80 years old and is still giving top-notch singing performances.
This guy is the king of voice for sure, if you wanna see him at his peak best you should check out his version of I who have nothing, 1974 version was his best, but he does the song justice even earlier as well.
Try She's A Lady, Pussy Cat, Delilah. Great songs. He is a judge on Britains got talent and still going strong. He sang on there and still sounds amazing!
Yes this was shortened bec Ed Sullivan had very strict time limits for performances, and if a performer didn't stick to the time limits they were never asked back to the show
Tom was a great singer. Him and Elvis was freinds with Tom. They said Elvis showed up at one of Tom's shows. And everyone stopped watching Tom and started going crazy when Elvis showed up. I heard Elvis wouldn't go to other performers shows because of this.
Sir Tom has been a judge on the UK version of The Voice several times. On the show in 2018 the other judges got him to sing "It's Not Unusual." He's still got it, and the crowd still loves him. In the UK he's considered a national treasure. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FIJpPJPrqw8.html
You mentioned Elvis well he was a bit obsessed with Tom Jones, I know people would think it was the other way around but I think he had a bit of a man crush on Tom. Tom Jones when he was called Tommy Scott and his band the senators used to play in what later became my local pub , it was near where my late Grandfather used to live so it was pretty handy for me as a young man.
Please play Tom Jones and Wilson Pickett Melody singing together. Thank you so very much. And also Tom Jones and Little Richard performing together. Another one of my favorites. Once again, I thank you. Have a blessed day and a very Merry Christmas.
The reason it was so short is because it was the first song of two that he sang, so he sang a short version of "It's Not Unusual" then he sang another song. Ed Sullivan would try to cram in as much as he could into his one hour show.
Love those moves! 💃🕺🏻🔥🙌💯 Check out some of his live performances on his TV Show “This is Tom Jones.” There’s some fun clips of him gettin’ down! “See Saw,” “Bony Moronie,” “Land of 1000 Dances,” “Treat Her Right,” “Soul Man,” “What’d I Say,” “Johnny B Goode...” to name a few! 😉
Back in those days they tried, or almost had to keep the songs less than 3 minutes so they could get more songs per hour on the radio. There are some longer ones out there if you look around. Usually live performances.
Hi Dani ! To this very show , he is singing another song as well and literally girls from the audience jumped on him , to hug him , kiss him ...they were going crazy for him ! The problem is that he didn't announced openly he was married ...wink wink , because his manager knew his sexappeal was the ticket to success for Tom and told him to keep his private life ...really , really private . Anyway the guy had a gift from God , that voice !
The Ed Sullivan show was very, very tight on time with guest acts since there were so many in his variety hour, so some had to perform abbreviated versions of their new hits. Even the Beatles and Elvis got squeezed on time. (To be honest, It's Not Unusual only has a 2:08 runtime). Still, performers knew they had been anointed as legit stars if Sullivan smiled during their performances or briefly interviewed them on stage afterwards. But here is a longer performance of that song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xsrMXcnb9RQ.html
He didn’t have to emulate Elvis. Elvis said he got his moves off Tom. I think they each had their own unique style but Tom’s vocals and charisma together put him in a league of his own. Just my opinion and I am a huge Elvis fan
Ed Sullivan show always cut song's length. Had a large bevy of acts every Sunday. Suggest you find youtube clips of the Tom Jones show. Full 3:30-4:00 minute songs with much more intense dancing. Enjoy. P.S. here's a link to Carlton/Tom Jones scrne (Fresh Prince...) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RaBDE_8DLag.html
Yes awesome Dani, reaction to Tom jones. He is an awesome performer and your exactly right he,s no Elvis Presley in the dancing routine but hey if you got the hip movement I say why don't you move them so an A for effort . You're awesome Dani. Keep those reaction coming
@@markbanner6473 hi mark was your comment meant for me on Dani,s reaction or to her on her judging video of Tom jones . I was just wanted clarification.
@@robertsteinmiller7503 Both really. Just saying might be best not to completely judge Tom's dancing until you've seen more songs that involve his moves. Its not Unusual is too short. Mind you many songs were very short back in those days. That's just how it was!
I know - I just LOVE Elvis so much, it was more of a joke --but I shouldn't say that. and I will definitely watch more Tom and I thought his moves were really adorable -- I'm sure I will enjoy even more when I see more material!
@@DaniAtkinson No worries. At least you love a true genuine legend. Too many people get called a legend these days! And most of them aren't good enough to be called that. Not even close. I also think the fact they thought each other were great shows you how GREAT they both were. Singers and people of their stature aren't going to call other people great unless it is truly warranted!
It's a very short song in any version. You need to review his most famous song: "Help Yourself." The remix of the studio version sounds so great on headphones (I'm going to program it as part of pre game shoot around music mix for HS girls' basketball.) But, also try to get a copy of a live version, since you like his in person movement and affect.
Oh my. Too many songs to list from 60s 70s 80s 90s and on. Check out his work with Art of Noise. Sex Bomb. Also his version of Kiss (Prince). You would love him all the more. There is a reason that he simply is known as "The Voice"! PS miners from Whales are known for their beautiful vocal talent.
Tom Jones, actually dances better than Elvis. I love Elvis, but Tom has better dance moves. Elvis eyes his leg more. Tom uses his whole body, to dance.
I feel like he was poking fun at Elvis since he was on the Ed Sullivan Show. He always moved a lot in his performances but I think the hips were thrown in there on purpose.
@@DaniAtkinson To me, that's why he would, since when Elvis first started appearing on the Ed Sullivan show they would only show him from the waist up when he would dance.
@@DaniAtkinson You're right. I posted a link in another post here. Showing pictures of them together. They had banter with each other as friends do. Nothing more than that.
@@GT-ry1cv Remember Tom is British, we poke fun at each other more than your average America does. It's a sign of love when you do that with your genuine friends. IF you are right, Elvis would have known that.
Here are some you should react 2 Dani Bee Gees Tragedy Village People YMCA The Platters Smoke Gets In Your Eyes Neil Diamond Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show The Beatles A Day In The Life Elvis Presley It's A Long Lonely Highway Everly Brothers Crying In The Rain
He always picked out a woman for every performance except on Ed Sullivan because performing live on Television on this kind of variety show there were lots of acts so yes it was short due to time constraints. You should understand the 60s sexuality you are in denial about SEX !! Ah ??young whipersnapers !???
