Correct, Tom brought it to a new & higher level. And due to today's climate and Tom's huge success, more started following in hopes of achieving Tom's level of success.

I'm a huge Tom MacDonald fan, but if you think Tom started political rap it just means you're young and don't know your rap history. Public Enemy was around in the early 90's and that's just one rap group. Tom was the only big underground rapper who was rapping about politics and social issues when he first went viral. But there are underground rappers you've never heard of, just like there are people who haven't heard of Tom yet, believe it or not. He's right about being the one who became known for his views, abd how others are copying him, but again this is now and not all the political rappers in the 80's and 90's. And before someone wants to try and get at me, I'm speaking facts which is what Tom stands on. So if you're presented with facts you should be able to change your worldview and recognize Tom is probably talking about now, and just didn't say it, and it's ok if he wasn't the actual first. What matters is he's killing it and the song is fire af. It's important to be fans and not turn into the dumbfuck Stan's who don't even know Eminem's discography or anything else about rap.

Also, Tom's "conservative" angle seems new to me - most political rap before Tom, in my limited experience, has been rather liberal-slanted, at least in social aspects. 🤔 I believe he opened the door for the current wave of "MAGA rappers," though I don't classify him as such. It's kinda ironic, with so many rappers in the past talking about Trump in their music! 😅

@@AccidentalTroublemaker Tom's always seen middle of the road to me. I don't think he really opened the door for maga though. I think, like most people, Tom has just grown and evolved. And Tom didn't really get more conservative, the left got much further left. It's just kind of how things happened. But there's still stuff on the right Tom does not agree with just like there's stuff on the left He doesn't agree with.

@@LaceyMediaProductions I completely agree with you, that's why I put "conservative" in quotes. (I hate labels and boxes as much as Tom!) My point was that compared to previous rappers (like Em), Tom comes off as more conservative, even though he expertly threads the needle on the topics by just bringing up the conversation if you listen closely, as MAWG observed in his 'American Dreamz' reaction. The Overton window shift has made him *appear* far-right, but he's definitely not! But that still encouraged the neophyte MAGA rapper movement to start, emboldening actual conservatives (and/or grifters 🙄) to speak their minds in their music, and cultivating a fanbase for them.
