REMASTERED IN HD! Music video by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers performing Into The Great Wide Open. (C) 1991 UMG Recordings, Inc. #TomPetty #IntoTheGreatWideOpen #Remastered
Daddy saw him live. I just lost him yesterday. My dad was 67. I'm going to miss him so much. Petty was his favorite. Dad was a surfer growing up in Southern california in the 60s and 70s. Now he is surfing 🏄 a big wave in the sky. I love you Dad.
@@bryanbourcier6492 jeez, an innocent mistake/typo must equal malice? It's not a dog whistle. You must find those imaginary things everywhere, don't ya. That's just sad.
Johnny foreshadowed his own story... I'd be honored if some Tom Petty fans would take a listen to my live keyboard & vocal RU-vid performance of INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN in tribute to one of the purest artists that the USA has ever produced. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thank You Tom, THE LEGEND LIVES ON
Listen carefully and you will hear that this song is genius. The harmony, lyrics, the guitars, his timing when he comes in with his voice....God everything. Tom was a brilliant man.
No not really brilliant this song is about going to Hollywood and selling ur soul. And a lot of his videos has Masonic satanic freak symbols like the black and white checkered boards in his music it's actually really easy to see where they stand once you educate yourself on these types of things
hey ax guess who wrote this nope its not tom the one who never wanted fame or fortune some one who was there like me yes i was there and yes i did write this sounds to good to be true but it is not tom played it i wrote it its along a long road yea tom is great but he needed a great writer well story teller if i told the story it would shock everyone i know everybody says no way yea i know but thats the way it goes i guess boy have i got a story to write about should i write it the new tom petty songs or just re arange the old ones to tell the other story hem i wonder well glad you like it not everyone does you know just something for the fans to think about i guess
The funny thing is that he saw the future and the story of Johnny Depp & Amber Heard... But maybe it was just that Johnny got so excited about this song that he wanted to be like his character in this video 😂
The last DJ is 1 of my favorite albums. They did that tour and had to sprinkle in a few gold hits in the end but made sure to get the entire Last DJ album on the stage. I was side stage, and it felt like I was watching them in the studio.
@BatMan-og9cw he plays guitar just fine. I've played with him and he is a guitar player. Is he EVH.. no, just a competent player and writer. SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED!!
I had the pleasure of seeing Tom live on his 40th anniversary tour and celebrating my 40th bday. Just months before he died. I'll never forget that concert. More packed than any other concert I've ever been to and in the presence of a legend. RIP Tom. ❤
I have seen tom in Louisville, Ky. I loved that concert. It was packed. 😍. I have sung every song, but it was so loud that I could not even hear 👂 my own voice. My ears 👂 were still ringing after one week after the show. 🤪🤪🤪🥰🥰🥰
One of my greatest regrets was not seeing him live. I heard him with Stevie Nicks but i was outside. His music resonates with me so much. We are so lucky to have had Tom Petty in our lives.
So much I wanted to see Mr. Petty & his Heartbreakers again. Saw them once in my lifetime, in Memphis. Tickets cost $1.03.each! Idol his lyrics, music.
On the CD of Tom Petty's Greatest Hits there's a photograph on the back that shows him and the scoreboard from The Forum and I was there that night that the photograph was taken back in 1980. He was wonderful concert magic power and instruments they played the second to none
@@lonnietennant1681yeah, I saw him in like 08 and I swear the guitar didn't have strings on it and he was physically leaning against the big guy behind him who was actually playing the guitar
I've seen Tom Petty and Heartbreakers many times in my Lucky Life, been a Loving and Adoring Fan since I was 14 in my 60's now, listen to him every day 💘🎩🎸
@@MunguiaDJPULP Bought Full Moon Fever cassette in high school and my best friend and i loved every minute of it. Went off to college and I guess started listening to other stuff. Found my old cassette at my parent's house 25 years later which got me interested in his music again . Bought Wildflowers CD on Amazon for $5 and I think it's actually better than Full Moon Fever. Amazing CD!! Then he passes away. I think his music will come back in popularity by the younger generation I really do.
Faye Dunaway, Johnny Depp, Matt LeBlanc, Chynna Phillips, Terence Trent D’Arby, and Gabriele Anwar. Amazing lineup for an amazing music video. RIP Tom Petty. You will be missed.
Tom Petty has definitely got his own Star in the Heavens of Rockdom. He is an American Treasure, a Classic, like Elvis Presley or something. His music is just so good!!!
I was 26 when this came out driving a truck cross country hauling explosives and Tanks and other vehivles trying to not blow myself up I am almost 56 now and still love kicking back and listening to Tom
You know, I didn't even realize what a huge Tom Petty fan I really was until I noticed I was singing every single lyric to every single song in tune in this huge list of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers songs on YT. Friggin' genius.
Whenever I experience feelings of loneliness or hopelessness, Tom's music has a remarkable ability to uplift my spirits and bring joy to my life. It reminds me how fleeting life is and encourages me not to fret over insignificant matters. Thank you, Tom Petty, for creating music that has such a profound impact in this vast universe.
It has the same effect on me. I love his music and will continue to do so for all my life. No other musician has even come close to Tom Petty when it comes to impacting lives on a deep level, in my opinion.
+Robert Kunze No, this one here is Gabrielle Anwar, if you know her from somewhere else it's probably the movie "Scent of a Woman" and the tango-scene with Al Pacino ;-)
I'd be honored if some Tom Petty fans would take a listen to my acoustic keyboard & vocal cover of INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN on my YT site in tribute to one of the purest artists that the USA has ever produced. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thank You Tom, THE LEGEND LIVES ON
It's when you start to stare, you embrace the death of you. That's why one of the hardest lessons in life, is to always keep moving forward, taking breaks along the way is alright. When you stop for too long, you find yourself done for.
Tom Petty gone 3 years today, my heart is still broken, I miss you brother, you have been on my stereo for all of my life, 2 divorces and 3 love kids 11 grandkids and now the great grandkids
This video is such an excellent time capsule for the early 1990s. It is a fictional story filled with a lot of truth on the music industry, Hollywood, fame and the future for Johnny Depp.
Rick Rubin told a story of Petty, one of the most humble artists to walk this Earth.....Tom would steer clear of going out in the public because of his superstar status...RIP TP! MUCH LOVE!
I met a guy in 92 on the beach, he played this song on his guitar. l felt in love. 30 years later and we still together + 3 kids . Thank you Tommy. Rip geanuis❤
Willing to say- One of the best MTV vids, ever! omg. Was J Depp ever that young?? 😄How did he transform into an old pirate?? 21 Jump? Anyone?? Glad I watched it in 2022, because I thought Winona played his hot gf. In the vid. Would have swore up and down that Depp and Winona were in the same vid. How funny is memory?
I love each creation that God made it with out any body help.so bless you allways Lois Williams Bentley and l can't see 👀 good looking grand son jake olivia beautiful and always will be.
Its True. The Legend has just passed on into Heaven. See you down that road Mr. Petty, and thank you for all these great songs you leave behind for our generation and every generation to enjoy onward into eternity.
there is a deeper teuth behind this. tom petty isnt lecturing like a god-father from above for no reason. eddie is not free, hes on a destruction derby. hence "a rebel without a clue (about freedom)" i prepared a longer work analysis about this, but its german im afraid. :)
My dad spent 100’s to see him one night in Chicago then drove to Milwaukee with his friend from HS my brother and I to see him the next night. Im so glad he spent the money to see him just months before his passing. My dad was devastated with Tom’s passing but grateful he spent the cash. Idk why im even writing this...
From one of the best albums ever in rock. Every song a gem. Tom didnt just write songs. He wrote anthems. He captured life in music and lyrics. His work rises above mere entertainment and its become art. Proud to have lived in his hometown for a spell back in the late 80's in Gainesville Fl.
Love this song. I'm actually incorporating the song title into a tattoo I'm getting tomorrow in memory of my sister who was a huge Tom Petty fan. She passed away in May and I know she would love it. She is "into the great wide open." Rest in awesome, Kim Rossi Nov. 16, 1971--May 12, 2020 A rebel without a clue.
You took those exact words out of myself as a 43 year old man myself never really appreciated Tom like the grown ups around me during the late 80's early 90's. The man was always a genius but to me in disguise at that time 😢 RIP Tom🙏🏼
"He met a girl out there with the tattoo too." Tom Petty was Badass! Thanks for the truly innovative, original, unique, timeless songs/lyrics. Thanks for the inspiration. Thanks for the memories (which are many). RIP Tom! You will be missed, more than words can say...
LOVE this video; I mean how can you not with Johnny Depp & Faye Dunaway? Fun Fact: Johnny actually can play guitar & sing VERY well- he is in a band with Alice Cooper & Joe Perry (of Aerosmith) called Hollywood Vampires. If you haven't listened or heard of them, DO IT NOW they are INCREDIBLE!!
Johnny sure Can PLAY! Have you SEEN his performances Live or their Videos? GOOGLE him with the Late Great Jeff Beck! His Guitar-Work is SPECTACULAR! TRULY!!! 😂
I needed some Tom Petty today. Music is my therapy. 💚 I have so many different memories associated w Tom Petty’s music. Mostly happy but my mom’s birthday is coming up & she was a Petty fan as well. Feeling a little sad. I still have urges to pick up the phone to call her. 😔 Music has always been in our home. Love & miss you mom & Tom. Forever in my heart. 💔 🦋 🌻
Tom iz definently up there but for me it's Frank Black ( or Black Francis if you go back to the pixies dayz). So many albums... so many different genres.
This is how all great stories end eventually from great expectations to complete disillusionment ! The plane of high hopes crashes eventually sooner or later ! Youthful vanity is reduced to ashes !
this is one of the songs that made me understand why I wasn't into the same kind of music my friend listened to... still think Johnny would have been an hell of a rockstar.
dnon75 welll...it depends on who you are. I've heard that someone called Paul or Mick or David is not poor. And by the way....being a rockstar is funnier in itself!
He can play guitar very well. Judging by the response he got when he played with Marilyn Manson at The Golden Gods Awards in 2012, he is a rockstar as well as an actor
In my opinion, the Learning to Fly album in '91 was Tom's absolute creative peak... I'd be honored if some Tom Petty fans would take a listen to my acoustic keyboard & vocal YT performance of INTO THE GREAT WIDE OPEN in tribute to one of the purest artists that the USA has ever produced. Live with no autotune or digital editing. Thank You Tom, THE LEGEND LIVES ON
I have loved this song (and Tom Petty) forever. Years later after becoming a total fangirl for JOHNNY DEPP, found out he's in the video for this song! Nothing could be better. 💘
@Inster_ber_ I thought that was Johnny Depp. I'm curious how you found out. There's another video out in the early 90s by The Lemonheads called It's A Shame About Ray that features a young Johnny Depp or at least a close lookalike.
The one and fucking only! Tom petty 💓 RIP. I am still blasting your music 🎵 and I have an 18 year old daughter that I have introduced her to your music 🎵🎶
The last shot in this is absolutely brilliant. He's meeting himself in his past and his future. I never got that before that he was coming full circle into his authentic self instead of pursuing who other people wanted him to be.
