"It is difficult to argue with a child, but Tom did an admirable job." == Adults make up their opinion based on their own experience. How many times Tom had been shot before? True or false? His opinion here is a repeat of what somebody else said.

As a career prosecutor in Virginia I prosecuted criminals who used guns to commit crimes for thirty years and can only recall ONE case where the criminal used a gun registered to him. ALL the rest were stolen or acquired through "street" purchases.
@MilitaryPolice23
@MilitaryPolice23 Год назад
In fairness, where I’m from you cannot buy a firearm without a license that is granted by the police. You have to have a permit granted for a gun shop to be able to legally sell you a firearm. I don’t see why that’s a bad idea
@skaruts
@skaruts Год назад
@@MilitaryPolice23 the point isn't that that's a bad idea. That very much depends on how hard those laws make it to own a gun. The point is criminals buy guns on the streets. It's not much of a hassle for them to own guns. They don't have all those legal barriers, they don't register guns, or whatever. It's everybody else that has it hard. The potential victims, wanting to own guns for self defense, have to go through hoops to own one. And then they may also have to be really careful about using them in self-defense, because they might be arrested for a long time just because they neglected some stupid detail in the laws. The more of a hassle it is to own a gun, the less inclined people will be to own one. And when it's prohibitively hard to own a gun, the result is you have a society of armed criminals and defenseless victims. And as the saying goes, _"when every second counts, the police is only ten minutes away"._ When you get attacked, you're on your own. The police only deals with the aftermath, which may involve you or your corpse. Basically, the people who do commit crimes and should not be carrying guns, are the least affected by gun laws.

Rosie even said "the 2nd amendment was for us to have muskets for when the British people came over". I totally agree. The musket was one of the most advanced personal firearms out at that time. They wanted us to have AR 15s!
@timothydraper3687
@timothydraper3687 2 дня назад
Nah, it was written up in the context of the time, which was for the use of muskets when the British making a counter attack was a possibility, since America as a country is different, don't you think that legislation should change to reflect that? In the UK, after Ian Hamilton killed many school children with his gun, gun ownership was much more restricted, where as in the US, evn though school teenagers are killing their fellow classmates each year, Americans hold onto the second amendment even though the time it was written in was more than 200 years ago. Either, you have school children going through shooter drills, during a time when they should be full of innocence, or you make some changes to gun availability to stop dozens of school children being killed within a couple of minutes. It's a stark choice which America has, it's either rapid fire guns being available, or the protection of the innocence of school children and school teenagers. Currently, it's the innocence of school children which is losing out.

@@timothydraper3687restricting guns won't stop shootings. It will only effect law abiding citizens. Gun nuts aren't supporters of death, they are supporters of freedom. The logic of gun restriction is flawed. When someone drives a big truck through a crowd, we focus on the motivation of the perpetrator, not their ability to rent a truck. When a pressure cooker bomb goes off, we focus on the perpetrator, not their ability to buy pressure cookers. Why do we focus on the gun when a shooting occurs? The AR is only used in less than 3 percent of gun deaths. Are gun control people really interested in senseless killings, or taking away people's rights to further a political strategy?
@timothydraper3687
@timothydraper3687 2 дня назад
@@matthewcochran3325 I'm from outside of the US, so I have no biases regarding how I want life in the US to be, and it seems crazy to me that the people of America seem to be allowing school shootings to happen each year, without any kind of changes to how easy it is to get hold of guns, while still allowing home owners to self protect and responsible adults to concealed carry. Since people can't drive trucks into schools, or smuggle pressure cooker bombs, I don't see how they are applicable analogies, or even where analogies are helpful, given the manner in which guns can be smuggled into schools. I honestly think you Americans are nuts when it's to do with the 2nd amendment, it's a historical bit lof legislation and school children are being shot each year. I think banning guns like has near enough happened in the UK would be a wrong move, as that would mean the millions of guns floating around would end up in the hands of criminals, but, multiple school shootings a year has got to be reason to consider changes to America's approach to guns, or else as a nation you're saying school shootings are a price worth paying for things staying as they are, it seems to me.

@@matthewcochran3325 Isn't the logic of a gun nut being a supporter of freedom flawed as well, when the 2nd ammendment relates to taking up arms against th British 200 odd years ago? Britain has not interest in invading anybody.
@matthewcochran3325
@matthewcochran3325 День назад
The second amendment isn't just about guns, it is an issue of freedom. You're correct in saying there are too many guns to suggest a ban as a solution. What do you suggest, then? I think dealing with the motivation to hurt other people is a logical place to start. That is why I brought up trucks and pressure cookers. I'm looking at violence in a general sense. In the UK, shootings have always been on a smaller scale than in the US. They ban guns and shootings go away, right? But what about knife crime? It seems to me that knife crime picked up where gun crime left off and now the UK is banning knives. Technically the UK did a lot to stop gun crime, but not much was done to stop violent crime. I'm not giving up my freedom just to substitute one form of crime for another.

What Rosie doesn’t understand is that a hunting rifle can take someone out from a far greater distance than an “assault rifle” Now if she took a moment to actually close her mouth and listen she may have actually learned something. The problem with always having the “right answer” is that you never get to hear any of the questions to be able to determine if your answers matches any of them😮.

The 'register a car' argument also fails for the obvious reason that vehicular modes of transportation are not unaliable rights but more importantly; If we treated guns like cars we'd: *Only have to register them to use on public infrastructure *be allowed to own and operate any form, in any configuration on private land *be able to cross state lines with any configuration or attachments(albeit on a trailer in regards to a car...so i guess in a guncase for argument sake) *have no limit on the amount or type of 'fuel' they use *have no limit on the amount or type you can own. *private transfers and sales are completely independent with no governmental oversight * safe handling courses taught(and sometimes required) in public schools * totally fine to bring to registered ones onto government and school property * pay property tax( the only bad one on the list) * have governmental financial assistance for the manufacturingn industry * have massive hobbyist\collectors groups engage in open, public display(ala; gun equivilent of a car show or those old guys that drive their hot rods 10mph under the speedlimit together on sundays around here) *import of certain models in certain configurations would be regulated LESS than they currently are for guns *be able to buy any part, for any model, with absolutely no tracking or registering of components *no minumum waiting time or background check for sales So yeah...maybe we SHOULD treat guns like cars. Overall I think it'd be a win for the 2A community. But lieftists and fools can not wrap their minds around logical extentions of their own idiocy.
