Tom Selleck is a gentleman who handled Rosie with more grace than I would have.

I love how Selleck just quieted down near the end and let her burn herself out. He knew the game that was being played, and just wasn't gonna go for it.

Tom Selleck was pretty awesome.

Poor Tom, he is one of the few celebrities that still has class. It must have been a complete insult for her to act the way she did.

Rosie showed her true obnoxious self promoting personality. This interview started her slow but continuous downfall. Tom is such a class act.

Nobody will ever get it right. You cannot predict mental illness. You could run a background check to a perfectly sane individual, but one isolated incident, such as the death of a child or divorce can set someone off.

Tom Selleck took the high road in the conversation, had she had Ted Nugent on her show she probably would have left the stage crying after he was done with her!

I don't care what your views on guns are. Rosie was being a snob on here and Tom did a great job keeping his cool.

He did the right thing, just point out how awkward it was and how the audience clearly wasn't enjoying it and how he was only there to plug is movie, not to have a gun debate.

In hindsight, Tom should have brought up the fact that at the time, Rosie and Penny Marshall were doing TV ads (being "spokespeople") for KMart, which was then the largest retailer of firearms in the country.

My opinion of Tom Selleck went up tremendously after viewing this. He was incredibly gracious while she was incredibly idiotic and rude.

Oh, and the second amendment was just for "muskets", but lets not forget that is EXACTLY what the military had at the time too. If the government wants to go back to that, and all the criminals only carry muzzle loaders, then I have no problem defending my home with one.

What was she thinking? She was so rude. You could tell she realized her mistake as she started profusely appologizing at the end. she said she wasn't attacking him but I felt attacked and it wasn't even me sitting there.

Rosie is rude to her guest Tom, argues, puts words in his mouth, interrupts, distorts what he’s trying to say. He was very gracious and behaved like a gentleman.

So nice of her to discuss his movie for 2 seconds at the end LOL. Classless.

A couple of things here. 1. Rosie was on the board of K-Mart, which sells guns. 2. Rosie's guards apply for gun permits to protect her.

I said it then, and, I say it NOW. Rosie, when you give up the guns that ALL of your guards, protectors, whatever you call them, that are watching over you and your family, I will too. You and your family are not anymore important, then MINE!

This is a real man. When a loud mouth person is so one sided and yelling at him, he kept his cool. I only wish that I could do the same!

It's almost unreal to believe it these days, but back then, Rosie was America's sweetheart. This is the beginning of what quickly changed all that. She lost a lot of viewers after this interview.

Tom Selleck was very calm, cool and collected. Too bad she never let him plug his movie, which is why he was there. Tom is a great man, actor, father and proud American.

Holy cow, I always liked Tom Selleck, but this garners a lot of respect from me. He is well-spoken, intelligent, respectful, and eloquent. “You’re carefully skirting the issue. It’s an act of moral vanity, Rosie, to assume that someone who disagrees with your political agenda to solve our problems cares any less…” you sir, are really incredible.

Like a lot of TV hosts, she is not pragmatic, and is totally pushing her agenda.

Wow. I think what amazes me the most is this exact same conversation goes on in parts of the Internet, today. And take any issue really, you have one side yelling and screaming and the other being calm, collected. You could see on his face, he was pissed, but he didn't lose control of himself.

This interview's legendary now. I'd never seen it before. Major kudos to Selleck for his calm in the face of O'Donnell's shrill, boorish, rude behavior. Every time Tom tried to reply she interrupted him and continued to do this throughout. That kind of crap is fine for the likes of a Rush Limbaugh show or any show on FOX (O'Reilly or a Hannity) or a Bill Maher show, as interrupting and shouting over each other and insulting their guests are de rigueur (and rational, thoughtful people avoid those shows, liberal or conservative). But Tom was there to discuss his and his fellow actors' new movie and O'Donnell chose to be rude to her guest. He couldn't get a word in edge-wise and the obvious sense of exasperation he had with her rudeness and the futility in trying to talk "with" her (where each party allows the other to state their case WITHOUT boorish interruption) was so very evident on his face. Yet throughout he remained civilized and a gentleman to her uncivilized boor. No wonder she has the reputation she does now and why she just was fired from The View. She just can't play well with others. Once again, major kudos for the incredible restraint and good grace of Tom Selleck, one of the very few really decent, civilized, people in the entertainment industry,

Rosie only cared about pushing her beliefs on Tom and when he refused to accept them she got belligerent.

Even the couple of times when Tom Selleck couldn't help but roll his eyes in response to the sputum flowing from Rosie O's mouth, he was a perfect gentleman in the way he contended with Rosie. He never raised his voice and it remains calm, even, and non commbattle. What was Rosie trying to prove, who was wearing the pants that day? Idk, I felt sorry for Tom Selleck having to sit there thru that awkward conversation. Out of the two, Mr. Selleck was clearly the more reasonable human being...

He’s so sensible and reasonable in his response… Rosie’s not even listening , just a yippy dog with her talking points and wants to hold him accountable like he’s in charge of the laws.. and she says “You can’t say there shouldn’t be responsibility for gun owners..” He literally never said that. She says he can’t do an ad for the NRA without supporting things she made believed they support, meanwhile she’s on a network television show..

She wants to register cars and guns but not voters 🤣🤣🤣

I remember watching this live when I was 16 and thinking that Rosie O' Donnell just firebombed her career by attacking one of the nicest and most decent men in Hollywood for no reason. I was right.

Rosie O Donnell was so full of rage at Tom - he was trying to have a coherent discussion but because she disagrees with him she won't let him speak. She asks the questions and as soon as he's about to reply she cuts him off. I hate when people do this in any respect.

Rosie O’Donnell is exhibiting the exact characteristics that give liberals such a bad name. She’s talking AT Tom Selleck and she’s imposing her views onto him with heated passion, and then at the end she says “we’re not going to attack each other” when that’s all she has done while Selleck could barely get two words out. And she compliments herself for giving him ONE INSTANCE (she said 4 minutes) of allowing him to speak uninterrupted. This is childish behavior and it’s no wonder that party is a laughing stock. Selleck is THE type of person to have a dialogue with about heated topics and she still managed to make herself look foolish by being uncivilized. I agree with everyone else that said Selleck is a class act and he made his point very clear and concise while being cool headed. Something Rosie O’Donnell or any radical person could never do.

The thing that pissed me off the most is that she lured him in with promises of something else entirely. He went in with literally no idea that she was planning this "debate." Left or Right wing, you must admit that any structured discussion should be fair, agreed to and sensical. Not to mention, he stepped into his position at the NRA for a sick and dying friend.
