Hall of Fame - letterman, and jimmy Fallon A compilation I found lurking on an old hard drive - i thought it seemed worth a share: Make It Rain Raindogs Chicago Raised Right Man
fucking hell this mans amazing, he gives me something to live for, it's hard to explain but his music reminds me theres still real ones out there. Tom Waits one of the greatest performers ever
He‘ s still got it, wow 😍 new songs sound great, blues rolling over every little note - and that after so many decades! Bad as me will be my next purchase👍
The first song I ever heard from Tom is still one of my absolute favorites. My mother used to play "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love With You" all the time when I was a child. Every time I listen to it, it's just as fresh and new as the first time.
the first time i heard Tom Waits was in a basement apartment with an addicted late nite taxi driver and his gem smuggler girlfriend,.... i was never the same,....
@Pedro Silva Incredible, you also heard Tom Waits first time in a basement apartment with an addicted late nite taxi driver and his gem smuggler girlfriend? Me too! ;)
From a dirty 8 track tape in a '68 mercury to my android phone..50 years of measuring the intellect of strangers by their knowledge of Mr. WAITS... and by their reaction to it.
I just came up with that a couple months back! that he should make an album called “ For No Man” but he’s probably had that thought long b4 we ever did and probably dismissed it as obvious or corny- but i thought i was clever for a second there. I do agree with the gentleman who stated you can, to some extent, determine critical information about a person from knowing whether they dig Tom Waits’ music or not. He’s definitely a “ litmus test” kind of artist. Kind of like showing your new girlfriend/ boyfriend/ friend a film that’s important to you personally and determine whether they “ get it” or not. Sometimes our taste in artistry is so integral to who we are that , with certain things/ artists, you know a person that doesn’t “ get it” probably won’t “ get you” on some important level. I believe that’s what that person meant and I can relate.👍🏻
Oh, of course, and it takes a 'genius' like you to let us know what's what. It must be truly grand to anoint yourself as part of the oh-so-exclusive 1%. A bit pretentious, are we?
You definitely haven’t heard the right live recordings.. 78 Austin comes to mind. Much/ most of Nighthawks at the Diner is live if I remember correctly. And , more importantly maybe, I believe most of his studio recordings are done “ live”…the old-fashioned way of all the musicians playing in the studio( or sometimes it sounds like the junkyard, banging on old rusty cars) at the same time. Not a lot of “ patching in” etc - just musicians listening to and reacting to each other. Correct me if i’m wrong. Audience obviously can be an important factor and recording quality , but I think most Tom Waits fans would be thrilled to see him live, right?! …Seeing what a rarity it apparently is, especially.
