I don’t really follow NHL all that actively but having played hockey with Tom in Saltsjöbaden IF I’m sure he’ll be a good addition to Vancouver. No one I’ve ever meet can match his intensity and ferociousness on the ice. Big congratulations Tom and Go Canucks!
As a Nucks fan, I am not. Benson was right there. This might turn out to be another picking Podkozin instead of Caufield kind of thing. Can't believe Benson fell to 13.
I think when he gets here no one will complain. He will compliment Hughes. See's the ice well. Like a Swiss Army Knife. He can do a lot and will just get better. And he can play physical.
I like how Alvin just went straight to who they were picking. Every other GM before him either first thanked Nashville for hosting and/or congratulated Vegas on winning the Cup, but Alvin has sh*t to do so he gets right to the chase.
Allvin's butchering of Willander's name was hilarious. That's not even remotely close to how you pronounce his name. A deep drunk Canadian would probably have come closer to the actual pronunciation. This is what happens when Euros come over to NA and try to sound like a native English speaker.

@@xboxrules8472 yes, but Smyl isn't Swedish himself and shouldn't be expected to know how to pronounce Swedish names perfectly. this isn't something unique to Allvin though, tons of Euro players butcher even their own names trying to sound North American.
great agility and puck movement, needs to improve his shot from the point though. Don't know why people are mad because we added another sweed, he is exactly what the canucks need.
I love it when people who have barely laced up skates and never played more than peewee are suddenly experts on who’s going to be good and who isn’t. My favourite (cough) are the people who can’t help themselves and have to be racist about it. “Swedes are soft!” Apparently they didn’t grow up in the 80s and 90s. The Samuelsson brothers were everything but soft. Hedman? These days, nationality means nothing. And I’d rather have Willander, a guy with top 4 potential than some winger who has just as much chance of not panning out. Benson is the sexy pick because he played for the Giants, but the last time we picked a local speedster, it didn’t work out so well. They could have done a lot worse. I wanted Simashev because he’s a big, potential top pairing D. But what do I know? I like the pick. And if Juolevi hadn’t gotten hurt and then gotten COVID, who knows what he could have been? He got really sick and ask Sutter how that stays with you.
Welcome to Vancouver, Tom Willander! I was hoping for one of the three remaining Greater Vancouver area players, LW Zach Benson(Langley), LW Andrew Cristall(Vancouver) and D Lukas Dragicevic(Richmond) but there is a lot of promise with this young defenseman who has committed to play at Boston University in the NCAA which is great decision on his part. Will Willander become the next coming of Mattias Õhlund?? Who knows. However, I'm sure he won't be the Swedish version of Ollie Juolevi.
To be honest, I was hoping for Benson or Moore because they were still on the board. But the Canucks sub reddit brought Willander to my attention a few weeks before the draft and I think he's a worthy pick at 11th. I've got high hopes for him, liking more about him the more I learn. Let's go Willander!
Happy with the pick. Right D are hard to find. Drafting them is smart. Canucks need to build up the defense. Now they can sign some old guys to fill in until he's ready.
Defensemen don't play on forward lines. At one time the Canucks cornered the market on players named Tyler. Tyler Motte, Tyler Myers, Tyler Toffoli, Tyler Madden.
As much as i would've like the Canucks to have taken ASP i think his size really played a factor in them choosing Willander over ASP. They definitely chose needs over best player available as there were a few high end forwards still on the board at pick 11 like Benson, Barlow, Perreault. Really hope they didn't 2nd guess themselves here.....we don't need another Jolevi mistake again.
When he comes to the Canucks put him on a defence pair with Hughes and have him with Hughes on the 1st PP unit with Rathbone hopefully making the team full time anchor the 2nd unit
What I don't understand is why Allvin, as a swede, is trying to pronounce his name as an amercan would pronounce it and not how it's actually pronounced.
I'm really not that familer with any of these players(besides Bedard) so all i can do is trust the GM and the scouts to make the best pick then complain about it later if it doesn't work out.

You’re acting like you can only draft them and that’s untrue, and if you look at Benson v. willander in terms of resell, you could probably get a RHD prospect for benson if he doesn’t sign or turn out, whereas you could get a lot less for Willander

Then we signed the Russian blimp, Krutov and 375g and paid the Russian I H Fedration 375 to match it. Medicine hat? they got $60 g in compensation for Linden. Who lasted longer?? Oh yeah. Passed on keith Tkachuk for Antoski. another dud. they the bench Gino in the SCF 94 and ran with Antoski. Gino 3 times the player though .
