NHL Slapshot for the Wii has become almost a cult classic since it was first released in 2010. Has the novelty worn off, or does the gameplay hold up in 2023? Corwin and DZ popped the game in for another edition of "Game Capsule."
Ive played so much that my hockey stick was broke I needed to old the two piece togheter while playing 😂😂😂I think if they’ve put a online mode on this game , I’d be the world champion 🤣
So many memories from playing this game growing up. Huge part of my childhood that’s still a ton of fun to play to this day. Once you learn all the mechanics and know how to play the game itself, it’s an incredible experience all around. The game has a ton of variety in terms of its core gameplay, modes, and challenges. Not to mention that it has quite arguably the best soundtrack in any NHL game. Nothing but bangers on all fronts. I’m glad that you both had fun playing it even if there were some issues that you ran into while playing. I can’t express to you enough how much fun this game truly is and how many times I’ve laughed when playing pee wee mode. Just seeing pee wee hockey players fall on the ice when getting checked is one of the funniest things I’ve seen when playing a game. I just wish you guys got around to knowing the op wrist shot move. No joke, you can actually snipe the puck bar down from the blue line/top of the circle when you enter the opposing teams zone. Just aim for the opposite top corner/side of the net and watch the magic happen. Anyways, keep up the great work as always and now I really want to play NHL Slapshot again.
No joke it didn’t actually matter how good the guy was as long as he was big it was a guaranteed goal every time. Be putting up 50 goal seasons with Eric Fehr and Brooks Orpik
The peewee mode on the ODR was by far my favourite mode. I’d spend hours playing the season mode and just completely destroying any hope that these virtual children had of making it to the league
Slap shot was too good! I still play it sometimes when I have the time. Never used the stick, found the regular setup easier. My career was a crazy mode
This was so good, loved the editing as always and the references sprinkled in. Also find it hilarious that the wii had homebrew on it. Anyone who has bought a second hand wii know that they always come pre-homebrewed lol
This game is incredible. I still play the 2v2 mode with 3 other friends to this day whenever we hang out. It gets super competitive as well, great game.
@@danielzakrzewski.bardown That’s an understatement - it’s nuts, we also adjust to the broadcast camera as well, so nobody has an advantage with either going up or down.
For your next Game Capsule (in 2025), I'd love to see you guys review one of the NHL Breakaway games from Akklaim. NHL Breakaway 98 for the N64 was the first hockey videogame I had as a kid and I've never heard anybody talk about it. Definitely an underrated gem, and it has enough weird little quirks to make for an entertaining video
This is probably my favorite NHL game of all time, the soundtrack, the peewee mode, the game play was so fun. It was one of my favorite wii games of all time
My childhood. I remember playing with my dad and he completely decked me in the face with the stick and split open my lip we went to the emergency room and they questioned me if my dad abused me
Yeah your definitely lieing here . The emergency room and even the hospital wouldn't take u in from the little mark that stick would cause by hitting your lip and making it get cut on your teeth . Why lie it's so easy to see your lieing . This just wouldn't happen . Maybe you got your lip spilt open but u sure as he'll didn't go see no doctor
I loved this game as a kid! I really liked playing the career mode where u started in Peewee and made ur way into the NHL which I think is the only game that does that (most start in the OHL/CHL). Also CAN WE PLEASE GET AN NHL GAME ON SWITCH??!!! Please no cloud bs
The best wii game ever. I played this so much on my wii. I felt like they might do slap shot at some point, and now they have done it. I still go back and play it sometimes. Thank Daniel and Corwin.😊
Downloaded this today for my homebrew. Really fun game to play. Played many nhl games recently and this by far is the most fun I've had. Really getting back into the Wii at the moment
Oh, my sister and I were not allowed to play for extended periods of time against each other, because if I was winning she would beat me over the head with the stick. But for real, the Peewee to Pro mode was unreal
I just thought that I would share that Leafs legend Ilya Lyubushkin scored his first goal as a Sabres which was an OT winner against the Lightning in Tampa.
I played this game so much as a kid but I didn’t have the stick. There’s an option somewhere where u can select that you don’t have the stick and if I remember correctly it actually played well
you can play as the Montreal Juniors from the QMJHL and play as Louis Leblanc which is pretty damn cool (considering that team folded really fast). I don't think there were many games that let you play so many teams from different leagues back in the day.
YOO SCOTT THE WOZ X BARDOWN crossover??? also this game was amazing for what it was and the console it was on. as a kid with just a wii this game grew my love for hockey, the season mode was a favorite of mine, i made the 2014 rangers with that game mode, and i got the game years before that. eventually i'd get a 360, but this game is way more timeless than any entry from 15-onward. 14 is still the GOAT tho.
Forget the switch, they need to make a new classic Wii with updated tracking technology and make more stuff like this. Could you imagine an NHL game with a physical stick where it actually tracks properly? Make it the length of an actual stick and you have the greatest sports game ever made
While I didn't have slapshot, I did have one of the numbered NHL games that came with that peripheral on the Wii, I remember it being alright Looking back, turns out I did get NHL Slapshot, there wasn't a numbered NHL game by EA Sports for the Wii
EB games were selling sealed boxes for 2 or 3 dollars each around 10 years ago and I regret not picking up their entire stock as they're selling for over 80$ now
Yep because u would've just thought hey imma save this discount game and it's going be worth alot yes u would definitely go down to the store and buy a shit ton of copies just for them to rot makes total sense when in reality the majority of sports games lose all their value in one year . Yes u would definitely think about this . U would be stupid to think about this it isn't intelligent to get lucky. In hindsight they were worthless why would spend 100 dollars on 50 copies of a game that was only worth 2$ . Makes no sense. This isn't crypto . Are u going buy 20 copies of nhl 23 in 4 years to cause they might worth money 20 years from now
