Authentic Mexican salsa verde Grill the tomatillos and a few chili’s on a pan you could use Serrano peppers for a hotter salsa or jalapeños for a milder salsa. Put them in a food processor or blend in the blender with 1 or 2 garlic gloves and salt. When on the bowl ad finely chopped onion and cilantro with a half of lemon juice. Delicious 😋

Hi Kim, you got a great harvest! Recepie: 8 tomatillos (washed) 2 jalapeños, if you like spicy add 2 or 3 serranos 2 cloves of garlics Roast all ingredients until they're nicely roasted and have changed to a light green color. Clean the chiles by taking the seeds out and place in a blender for a few pushes finish by adding salt, chopped cilantro and fresh onions. Sooo simple and delicious. I love to add chipotle to😁 This salsa will last about 5 days in the grudge. In my house only last 2 days😂

Great to hear your neighborhood leaf blower so early in the day Kim! Up this way the wind is blowing the leaves off towards Kansas today. And also blowing the growing season away. More heavy picking of peppers and tomatoes today. Do I hear salsa time? By the weekend the night time temperature is forecast to be 20. But there has also been an extra 2 1/2 weeks of growing season over last year. And yes while clean up is not done, am already looking at changes next spring. Enjoy your summery warmth. Happy Gardening! -Bob...

I just harvested my tomatillos! We have harvested three times now. We planted from seed. And we have about 15 bags that we transplanted to with a drip system. The tomatillos are in bags and growing straight up next to fence. And they are taller than the fence now! We have string keeping them up against the fence. They are so Viney. Lol. I harvested mine and the first harvest was after a day rainfall, they ballooned up and needed picking. They turned yellow. These were the sweetest I’ve ever had! I left on the counter for 5 to 7 days. I made salsa verde. I took the tomatillos, unhusked them, washed the sticky stuff off. Put on a cookie sheet with Jalepenos, onion, garlic cloves and drizzled oil on them and broiled them. After they were broiled I put them in a blender and puréed them. After the purée, I added the cilantro, salt, and lime juice. I like it without lime juice, but its to keep it longer or to can it. I put three jars into the freezer. When I nuthaw them to use them, I will add chicken stock to it in a blender again for enchilada sauce, or I will add avocado to it for a avocado cilantro salsa. You can even add fresh cilantro at that time to give new fresh flavor! Enjoy!

There's different types of recipes for salsa verde. The roasted one is delicious indeed. I usually grill all ingredients including garlic, I also add onion. If you want spicy use serrano chiles, 1 or 2 more if you like spicy Milder flavor use jalapeños you can remove seeds to make it less spicy.

My tomatillos are finally starting to fruit, so I can't wait to harvest them for the first time. There is a praying mantis living on mine, which luckily has not seemed to deter the bees. I don't have a tried-and-true recipe for salsa verde, but, one thought is to be sure to grill not only the tomatillos but also the onions if you add them! I was watching some of your old videos and was inspired to make the grilled eggplant parmesan a couple of weeks ago -- it was delicious! Three questions: 1) Do purple tomatillos taste differently from the green? 2) I thought I saw a slight hint of it in one of the shots but maybe it was a different plant -- do the purple tomatillo leaves have purple veins? 3) Random question: the blue smart pot in the background -- are those big duck marigolds in them? They are beautiful!

You can even do a raw salsa verde. I usually wash and chop 2-3 tomatillos, 1-2 serrano peppers, 1-2 cloves or garlic, a small piece of white onion, I also add avocado 1/4 and some cilantro, add a little bit of water to blend you can add a little at at a time until you reach the consistency you like. Season with salt! These are great for dipping tortilla chips or any other Mexican dish. Enjoy!

My favorite way to make salsa Verde is to get a pan or grill piping hot and while everything is heating up peel the husk I use about 5 or 6 bigger size tomatillo 1 chille Cerrano or 1 chille de arbol, 1-2 garlic cloves 1/4 or 1/2 onion. The key is to char everything while trying to keep everything firm. The less you cook the tomatillos the greener the sauce blend or use a molcajete with a little chicken bouillon i start with 1/4 tsp at a time and salt to taste lastly squeeze in some lime juice add raw finely chopped onion and cilantro. Tip the chillies can be very spicy so remove seeds and add in 1/4 or the chille at a time for less spice For a fun authentic variation add in some zucchini for a thinker greener consistency Or Add avocado while blending to make it creamy or small cubes The fun part about this is that everything is to taste so every ingredient can be added little by little untill its perfect for you. It's also super easy to play with the texture of the sause by either pulsing, blending it smooth or making it creamy.
