I had some garbage rolls lol Recorded 24 hours post launch this is gonna serve as a TEST GAME which I think serves well as a episode 0. I'm more used to 8th edition so going back to a more 6th edition style play has been interesting to say the least. There will be some teething problems but I'm in it for the long haul and we're both feeling quite confident about the next battle report already :). Timestamps in description, with a little FAQ at the end! My plan is to upgrade equipment such as cameras, lighting and so on as I can afford it. Right now a lot of funds have gone towards paint and stuff to repaint minis, rent of premises so I can actually film the damn things!
@@noheartfourteeneightyeight you are literally the first person i've heard with a good word to say about either of those, from what I've heard i don't think I'd be particularly keen on either, although I'm in no way saying you're wrong to like them. I'm having my first game of ToW today, and I have to say it looks the best edition I've seen, for my preferences at least.
Im really happy to finally watch your battle reports! I had a simple idea for you: you might get a second set of dice and use two different kinds of dice. One for each opponent. It would help to show quickly who's rolling what. It's great to watch and I really enjoy your content!
Hi, thanks for the video, I have plenty of constructive feedback for you ! First on the video itself : The little cards explaining rules appearing on the screen are greatly appreciated. Very nice initiative, you can even push it further (with little comments on what is happening if not explicit or if you think details can add). If you could find a solution to get a better recording sound for you two when you are talking in this room, that would be great, it's very echo-y as is. I feel you don't have to zoom that much to see the dice results. A larger view looking at the battlefield is more pleasing and less wobbling around with the camera is always better, my opinion. Closing in to show your models is a treat. Closing in to show dices not necessary and nearly an annoyance. :) The narrative intro was great ! You could add a narrative outro also, with the consequences of the battle. More immersion is always welcomed. Then plenty of feedbacks on the game : General : You have to declare all charges first, then the opponent declares the charge reactions for each unit, and then you move your models. I feel like you ignored completely the charge reactions side of the game on this battle. Even if it's always "I hold", asking the question "what's your reaction" might always trigger a "oh yes I can hold and fire" or "or yes I can counter-charge". Granted, on undead side, you cannot flee as a reaction (and non-peasant knights don't want to lose the blessing), but remember it's always possible otherwise. General : The order of saves are : armor, then ward, then only regen. It's important because any wound saved by regen still count as points for the combat resolution (see it as the skeleton still being smashed to the ground, but the necromatic magic rebuilds it just after). That's also why it's very important to do combats in entirety one by one, because you will never remember how many regen saves have been made otherwise to compute the proper combat result. Remember, you have to process all combat entirely with combat result and consequences, and then only go on another fight. This is important because if you pursue a broken fleeing unit and get mixed up as as charge in another combat which has not been resolved this turn, the charging unit get to combat twice that turn :). General : The combat results were not explained. No need to detail everything on camera, but you can put a little card somewhere in the screen writing all combat points on both sides, the side who lost by how much, and the result of the combat (give ground, fall back or break) and the decision of the winner (restrain or pursue). You can look at a battle report of Miniwargaming for inspiration on computing quickly combat result visually by adding dice aside and enumerating on each side how many points they got in combat. You should have crumbled more than you had in that battle. General : The Virtue of the Ideal litteraly says "However that character cannot be the general of your army or join a friendly unit" (paraphrasing, I have a french book). The virtue is strong and a good choice, but the Duke cannot be the general of the bretonnian army here. The Baron is the general. General : Unstable + Unbreakable = you don't make moral tests. You just crumble the difference of combat result. Turn 1 Bretonnia : I did not see any consequences on the combat with the Duke, he should have made a leadership test, and at best given ground (even in a challenge, otherwise I would love to get directed to the rule indicating combat result is ignored here). Turn 1 Bretonnia : (strategy) The Damsel should have tried to cast her "rest in play" signature buff spell from turn 1, just in case and to avoid to cast it turn 2 if tomb kings do not dispel it. Not a mistake, just a reminder that "remains in play" spells are good and you should always try to cast them in advance if you can. You can still cast it later if it's dispelled. In this edition, casting a spell is only bad because of the opportunity to miscast. And even then, you have a non negligeable chance the spell still resolves. Turn 2 Tomb kings : On the charge of the scorpion, which I assume is a monster, the knights should obviously have counter-charged (and thus no blunted lance, and probably the scorpion would have been completely destroyed between wounds and combat result crumbling). Turn 3 Tomb King : (strategy) The Duke should have attacked the unit, not the bone giant. It's way easier to win the combat and crumble the giant that way, rather than trying to hit directly with the equipment and virtue he took. If he had Virtue of Heroism on the other hand... :) Turn 3 Tomb King : (strategy) You chose to restrain with your skeletons, you should have pursued, and thus charged the lance. Against bretonnia, you never want to let them charge. As bretonnia, you always want to charge. I don't see why you said restraining would be beneficial for you, what did I miss ? With everything said, the battle would have been even more in favor of bretonnian with this lucky trebuchet hit on turn 1. Oh, and read properly the rules of templates. I think you are using the 8th edition ruling, and it has massively changed in The Old World. Fantastic battle report otherwise. Please continue, with improvements on following the rules if you can remember (new edition, no big deal, I'm just providing you constructive feedback) ;)
In the old world flammable only removes regen if the model has the flammable rule. Unless it says dry as dust tomb kings keep their regen. Flaming attacks are bad since a lot of stuff gets special protection against flaming and it doesn't effect a lot of units. you don't show combat res but remember wounds that are regenerated still count for combat res. Secondly you don't take fear tests if you outnumber the unit with fear. Just a couple notes since this is a complicated game and old editions make it harder since they have the same rule play out very differently
Great report!! When BRETONNIA is involved, please include the VOWS, so that the viewer knows what kind of Psychology rolls we can expect Bretonnian characters to make, along with Characters like the Duke will automatically have the Blessing of the Lady.
Thanks for this & keep doing these please! Personal feedback for these battle reports: maybe get a dice tray (makes it easier to film) & the inzooming did start to give me headaches and crazy eyes halfway in the video. But thanks for doing this man! Keep it up 😊
just fyi the first wound caused against the tomb scorpion at the beginning of the game would have allowed his regeneration save. Flaming attacks on negate regeneration if you also have the flammable special rule which tomb scorpions don't
So gonna be honest I like that this video isn't that long.... I even wish it could somehow be worked in to 40-45 minutes. So many Bat Reps are really long and I just don't got the time of day. thanks GBoG
Great replay! Loved to watch it. And very much to the point without too much chitchat. Thank you. As feedback: A dice tray and different color dice for each opponent would be great. Looking forward to next episode.
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges Undead don't take leadership tests for unstable, they just lose wounds equal to how many points they lost by before a break test would be made (undead don't make break tests) (unstable p.180)).
@@TheGreatBookofGrudges I thought undead had the Unstable rule, which means they take wounds equal to the difference between combat res, before a test happens. So if the skeleton warriors lose combat by 4, they'd take four wounds and then worry about tests if they aren't also Unbreakable.
Excited to see more battle reports on the channel! My wishlist would be some camera investments. Perhaps one stationary/steady camera at the edge of the table or even mounted from the ceiling would make the video a lot easier to watch. You could always mix in handheld close-ups. A dice spot/camera would of course be great as well. Still, I'm already happy to see these reports!
Love some battlereports. Saw some Rules Errors tho. Dont know if it is to annoying so sorry in advance. The leadership test for undead got written already. Then there was the hit with the Trebuchet: only the stalker under the hole is it directly the other ones would be hit on a 4+. Then there was the possibility to counter charge for the Knights. The last thing that just was unclear if you counted the the regeneration save in the results. Saved wounds with regeneration are still counted for combat results. Please don't let this be understood wrong i love the content and want more but without pointing mistakes out how should one correct them. Exited for more!
First of all awesome battle report! I really liked that it's edited so it doesn't drag on. I think Battle Reports should always be short and sweet. There were some missed rules and the camera left a bit to be desired But I'm sure as things go forward it'll only get better!
This has 100% convinced me to build a cushioned dice tray for any battles I have, dice going everywhere looks hella annoying and confusing, also need different colour dice for each player and ones used for wounds probably should be the small dice
Really nice work on the setup! And fun video :) Editing comment: the thick impact font for the info boxes is really hard to read on a phone screen. Maybe something less... thicccc...
Just afew things I noticed, knights can counter charge the tomb scorpion, the royal peg has 3 attacks not 4, but you forgot the stomp attacks and the treb afaik has to role to hit a model on a 4+ even if model is under the template (except the guy under small hole)
Some quiet music in the background would help a lot I think. It's just voices and clacking of dice against the textured boards which isn't the best to listen to for an hour. Maybe use a cushioned dice tray to minimize that?
Good fight, but why do you take Leadership Test for Tomb Kings in Combat (you dont test and lose wounds like the different of combat result (and for them you can make regeneration throws)
I like edited Battle Reports like this compared to those long drawn ones, but there really quite a few rules and stats error. The illegal double charge, the regen save, the whole trebuchet shooting, all in just the 1st turn, for eg..
Loved the battle report. Good stuff. I'm sure they're only going to get better. My only note is that there were a few almost snippy comments between you two when you were correcting each other on rules. It was mostly the guest though I noticed you did it a couple of times as well. Just something to keep in mind. You guys should also probably put rules clarifications up there, when you guys aren't sure on a rule. Mention it, or insert some audio after the fact to explain it. Would help a lot of folks new to the system.
Tomb Kings don’t break. But they got A LOT of rules wrong. Which is fair, it’s a big game to learn. Then theres a bunch that doesn’t make sense, like the bus of knights. A lance better serves him in every way, and his minimum rank width is 4 for heavy cavalry. His are 3 wide. After combat, you lose wounds per CR you lost by, not depending on how much you failed your leadership by.
Because they don’t know the rules. That should be clear after watching. Not a big deal, it’s a difficult game, but it’s clear they weren’t prepared for the game.
Someone actually taking the Destroyer of Eternities? This is a first. Only place I've seen that it makes sense to me is on a high priest on a bone dragon.
His knights can’t have 4 ranks 3 wide. He’s heavy Cavalry, so his minimum rank is 4 wide. It’s against the rules. Also, why the wasn’t he in lance formation? Instead of fighting with 3, he could have fought with 7. It doesn’t make sense. Theres no good reason for them to not be in Lance unless they are blunted, which they weren’t.
@@fitzlock8349 Looking over both FoF & TOW rules, nothing says BSBs cannot be outfitted with "standard" weapons for their unit. So Lance should be allowed, even if it kinda doesn't make sense.
