Tommy Robinson is the co-founder and former spokesman and leader of the English Defence League (EDL) "street protest" movement, and also founded the European Defence League. For a short time in 2012 Robinson was joint Party Vice Chairman of the British Freedom Party. He led the EDL from 2009 until 8 October 2013, when he was persuaded to quit the organisation and to discuss alternative ways of tackling extremism with the think tank Quilliam.

I'm an African, a Nigerian specifically, and I've always even before I knew or came across this gent by name Tommy Robinson, and all stood, fought, and advocated for, I couldn't bring myself to the denial of the facts he always presented. Now,I may not be able to personally prove his accounts to be truthful, but due to my own personal experiences and witnesses, he's absolutely on point. I just pray for peace among real humans who are not persuaded religiously to blindly defend what they've been thought to believe, but hopefully be truthful to ourselves for the sake of seeking and achieving peace amongst ourselves

I am born and raised in Telford. I went to school with some of the convicted groomers. My childhood experiences were very similar to what Tommy is describing here. I knew girls who where groomed and raped and they were called liars. My friends 13 year old cousin was ran over and killed by her 19 year old "boyfriend" because she tried to get away from him and his grooming friends. We had a school assembly about how to be safe around cars while the police and teachers ignored the uncomfortable reality and truth of what really happened. Many of the victims were vulnerable girls from vulnerable homes and easy targets. Almost 20 years later I work in social services because I wanted to be the change and I'm sad to say absolutely nothing has changed. Those of us that truly care just get burned out by the weak minded who would rather call us liars and ignore the truth than risk their pay check. I used to think it was ignored because people are scared to be labelled racist. Now i realise its more because society is just so broken as whole, people have to turn a blind eye to protect their job so they can pay their bills and keep food on the table instead of doing whats right and fighting to protect those that are vulnerable. It takes a very strong person to walk against the crowd and stand up for whats right these days. So many children are still being failed. You dont have to like Tommy. You dont have to be friends with him or support him. You dont have to be a racist. But you dont have to ignore the rape of children either. Its a choice you are making.

I was also led to believe by politicians and media that Tommy Robinson was society's bogeyman. As a liberal left-winger, I kept him at arm's length. Having done my research about him (after his imprisonment), I can see that he is someone who has the same concerns about radical Islam as me and most people I know. The way he has been treated is an absolute disgrace, as well as deeply sinister. I'm convinced that if people did their research about Tommy they would see he has been unfairly demonised. I can find no evidence whatsoever that he is racist.

Where are the human rights for everyone other than Uropean where are women rights, where are religious rights, equality rights? Thank you Oxford Union for allowing Tommy to speak and sharing this video. I hope those attending, who called him names when entering, now realise the facts and feel truly ashamed of themselves and apologise to him. I am absolutely shocked and disgusted at the horrendous and unjustified treatment of Tommy Robinson. I'm also disgusted at the police, government, councils, and media and I have been for years, for allowing these Islamists to spread their evil in our country and turn a blind eye to the harm they have done and continue to do. I fear for the future of my children and grand children. My heart breaks for Tommy and his family, for what they've been made to endure. The police are a disgrace and need to be investigated and held accountable for their wrong doings. Tommy has my greatest respect for raising the issues and raising awareness. I know this video has opened many peoples eyes. Many who believed the media who wrongly vilified and slandered him, are now apologising and many more people are now supporting him. As someone who was formerly quite left wing in my beliefs, Tommy was often a byword for "racist" or "far right". But, the more we head down a road of integration that is failing on it's own terms (let alone anyone else's), and the more I hear Robinson's own words (rather than secondhand misrepresentations of him), the more I realised how I was being deceived about him. You can tell us to ignore people like Robinson. But, outside, the problems of integration - and communities that refuse to integrate - simply become more apparent, more visible, and more dangerous.

Thank you Oxford Union for putting this on. I had very negative views of Mr Robinson/Lennon for many years, however, I have heard a lot from him recently that has changed my opinion.. Incidentally, I studied in Luton at the University in the early 90s and lived in and around Bury Park.. Even back then the town could sometimes feel like a tinderbox (I'm from Manchester which had enough of its own violent problems in the 90's) however I could only imagine how much worse Luton became in the years after I'd left. Listening to his story made me see the man in a new light, and with a respect for him and his values in standing up for both his community and beliefs.

I'm an British born Indian, born in England-London and I'm proud to be English. I live near Luton and I've seen this type of stuff all over England where there are large predominant Pakistani communities. Especially when it is a non itergrated community. This is a MAJOR problem and tommy is right about what the authorities are doing, which is nothing and they always turn a blind eye due to political correctness. I knew girls who where groomed and raped and they were called liars too. My friends 13 year old cousin was ran over and killed by her 19 year old "boyfriend" because she tried to get away from him and his grooming friends. We had a school assembly about how to be safe around cars while the police and teachers ignored the uncomfortable reality and truth of what really happened. Karma is knocking you like to go off on a tangent, you asked a question and I was trying to help answer it. If you want someone who has made a difference it would be Andrew Norfolk from The Times, who opened the can of worms for the grooming gangs /watch?v=D7xhNYJV430 . They're both people who are fighting the good fight. It takes the actions of the many to change the fabric of our society but they are the kindling to start the fire that is needed.

+MrHappyBollox Come on now, all those "news shows" you mention are biased as all get out and will only ask loaded questions, then when he starts to hit with hard hitting facts, he will be talked over, called racist and then they take a commercial break to calm the set in between the 15 minute long "news shows". This speech was 8 years ago and the EDL was founded 14 years ago in 2009. To say things have worsened would be an understatement. The country and Europe is a tinder box, the people have and continue to awaken to the problems and worse to our own leaders that enable its continuation.

Their needs to be more open platforms like this to foster open and fair debate about the very real issues our society faces. I can completely relate to Tommy's experience in Luton. In 2004 I visited a family member, the next day I walked back to the train station, at the train station and elderly Nigerian woman asked could I help lift her shopping bag over the footbridge to correct platform. It wasn't until I reached the platform that I realised she had done me a huge favour. There was about 20 youths, some with knives just waiting to have a pop. That old lady stood with me and made small talk until the train arrived. I will be forever grateful. But it seriously raises the question if our politicians and police will not protect English people, it will ultimately fall upon organised groups of men who believe in the principles Great Britain was founded upon.

So Tommy Robinson is saying that ordinary Muslims minding their own business have never been attacked by Anglo-Saxon gangs? Really? He seems pretty selective with his listing of horror stories, but doesn't reflect the actual history of how these gang conflicts started in the first place. He is also lying. His target is all Muslims, not just the gangs he picked fights with. The same question could be asked as to why his gang of Nazis is allowed to operate freely.
