When i heard tommy was in L.A for his tour, my first thought was "Oh i hope he goes on sad boyz" before thinking, no , my two spheres of the internet wouldnt crossover like that. WELL lo and behold it has.

I actually went to see Tommy’s live show on Monday when he was in Phoenix and his description of it being like a RU-vid Video on stage is very accurate. Not saying it’s bad tho. It’s actually pretty good

This was great! I especially liked the discussion on stand-up versus live-shows versus youtube videos. Tommy has a certain loud personality he uses in youtube videos that can work well, but it's cool how he's finding with stand-up he needs to be more authentic and real in order to tell jokes that really connect to his audience. And doing that and getting laughs has been a boost in confidence which shows he doesn't need to use his specific persona he's cultivated since he's 16 to be funny. And of course his live show is like a youtube video but live, yet he's still got an audience to bounce off of. Overall, it's nice to see he's pretty grounded and keen to continue being a good creative entertainer.

I am extremely grateful for you, Jordan, to share your experience with Bipolar II. I was just diagnosed less than a month ago, and i've been feeling alone because my friends and family have been taking on my diagnosis, "I think I have that too because I like to spend money!". I had an extremely similar experience with getting diagnosed with ADHD and starting stimulants that sent me into a manic psychosis. I stayed up for three days straight planning on becoming a medical doctor. I'm 25 and have been in and out of community college for 7 years so not too likely lol. I had always suspected I had it, but now reflecting on my manic episodes and serious depressive episodes I have complete confirmation. I also started lamotrigine too and it helped almost too much lol. Grateful for you guys and your mental health talks! ✨

I find it genuinely confusing when people hate on tommy, i get that some people find him annoying or cringy sometimes, but it’s so obvious that it’s satire and he’s playing characters. Just listen to this pod and you can tell he’s a chill guy.

This is so nice. I actually felt very seen by all the talk about online expectations from the world and peers, and hearing them talk about the difference between that and the way it could be like interacting with actual people in real life. The insight was very interesting. Like, I’m an artist, and I feel this immense pressure, everytime I post a new piece, of not knowing how it is going to be received and like, if it doesn’t get 20 likes in one hour then it’s flopped and my art isn’t going to be picked up by the algorithm next time I post because of it. But I loved what Tommy said about how, like slowly things can be received outside of the internet space. It made me imagine a scenario where I could be just myself, humbly showing off my work to other people, and instead of seeing a view that most likely didn’t leave a like on the post, I can see their face or I can watch someone look at it because spending so so much time on one singular piece like that, and expending so much energy and creativity just for it to be unseen is so disheartening. But maybe I really could have that human connection that I could hold in my hand and put into my next piece… I don’t know, I just found this conversation very interesting and it’s made me think about a lot! So I thought I’d comment ‘cause this feels like a nice grounded little pocket of the internet right now.

I love how many people are being introduced to Tommy, and how many people (including me) are being introduced to sad boyz through this. Like, both groups have heard of the other, but I’ve never actually listened to a podcast [and then there’s the people who like both creators and are so happy they overlapped 😂]

Fun fact, the touring company Tommy tours with is Real Good Touring, owned by Arin Hanson, the guy who Jarvis fought in creator clash.

I think its kinds crazy how young Tommy is yet how charismatic he is. I've never consumed his content before and I only know him through osmosis - he seems like a pretty cool guy and I'm glad he was on the show.

I've known of Tommy because its hard not to as my chronically online self but never really engaged with or watched his stuff since most of the surrounding fans or adjacent creators were not really my vibe. Hearing him on here I might need to check out that special when (if?) it comes out online! I absolutely love standup as an artform and so jazzed to hear how much his style is drawn from Steve Martin alongside his clearly grounded/introspective outlook.

I really liked this episode, especially the latter half, talking about male friendships and mental health. Jarvis was a huge reason I sought out therapy and why I am who I am today. So keep doing what you're doing!

Jordan I acc love you for talking about your bipolar - my husband also has it (he’s very open abt talking about it dw he isn’t gonna come for me for saying haha) and the way it’s misunderstood is wild. I have cyclical vomiting syndrome, and there's an uncontrollable urge to shower when I'm going through an episode, but that's a main symptom. I think the most I showered in 1 day was about 12 times. Unfortunately the episodes of vomiting cause me to break out into a full body sweat that absolutely drenches me, so that with the nausea leaves my only option to be in the shower until the hot water runs out.

I have never needed a sad boys episode more, hope everyone reading this is doing great 💛✨

Sad boyz episodes always make my Saturday mornings. It's amazing to have something to look up to every week! I especially loved the discussion about evolving. I really struggling with that kind of of "I must be at the best possible point with everything" perfectionism, including with my personality. It's something I'm working on and it was a nice little reminder.

ohmygod the bit about being afraid to ask for help in an academic environment because there's a pressure to know everything already .. especially in computer science & science in general !! i remember one guy once scoffed because i used this resource provided by our course to practise the content, and he thought it was sooo pathetic that i used it because .. why should i need to be actively learning ? i should know it already, duh and just .. what's the point of being in education then !! i'm here to learn - the prerequisites were not the content the course fcking covered, obviously !!
