This footage is from the day BEFORE the cataclysmic caldera collapse on the 15th, but clearly shows the eruption ramping up and evidence of seawater mixing with ash and gas.
It appears there were no known vessel near the volcano. That's not to say there were not. Communication is still down. The underwater fiber able was damaged or completely severed by the tsunami. Or the equipment on the main island of Tonga was swamped by the tsunami. NZ and Australia have both sent recon flights over the islands to assess the situation and if possibly make drops of emergency communication equipment, generators, fuel, solar equipment, and other emergency supplies. Any vessel(s) near the volcano when it exploded likely would not have survived. The shockwave, as seen in the satellite footage, would have blown up small vessels and capsized large steel vessels. The explosion is thought to be, again based on satellite observations, the largest on earth in the last 100 years, if not in recorded history.

The true magnitude of this explosive eruption will be revealed in the coming days and weeks after all data points are collected and deciphered. Cheers!
One can't appreciate the scale of those eruptions by watching them through a video, it truly is a sight to behold, albeit a damn scary one. To me it's as if we're seeing it happen in slow motion, the black plumes slowly rising into the sky can't depict the true picture that those are millions of tons of rock hurtling skyward for miles and miles. Beautiful and devastating on a pan-global scale - my thoughts to all those affected across the world.
Wow that must be both horrific and terrifying to see up close like that praying for all those who have been impacted by this big powerful and dangerous Volcano. Saw the news here in Jamaica. Also seen many videos including this one on you tube
Watching something like this makes me feel overwhelming love for my fellow hedonistic humans. Our entire existence could be wiped out at any moment. God help us.
You are correct, this is from eruptions some days earlier. The vent between those two islands was gone beneath the waves before the big eruption on Saturday.
That is correct. Anybody this close to the volcano when its caldera collapsed would have been killed by the shockwave hitting them and/or sinking their ship.

Now that the 3rd COVID-19 lockdown is coming, and now a volcano, it makes me wonder if the Earth has an internal reset button for every 100, 500 and 1000 years.
Im thinking more like every 10 thousand years. I sometimes wonder if oil is the waste from a super advanced civilisation that was burried due to a cataclysmic event?
I really don’t think they are telling us everything about this eruption. That pyro clastic flow alone should have caused a massive water displacement leading to a bigger tsunami than what we seen. Or we were just miraculously lucky. Opinions?
He's right though. This is older video that has been shown elsewhere as eruptions from earlier in the week. A lot of news outlets are just grabbing photos of the earlier smaller eruptions and showing it out of context.
Wouldn’t it be nice 👍 if these reports could include an event timing as well as the statuary report time. After all this event could have happened 500 years ago, we have just found out about it and now we report. NOT HELPFUL!
Seriously?? Volcano's don't typically cause tsunamis, earthquakes are the most common cause. 2nd, since when can so many "feel" the eruption far and wide?? The satellite video shows a dam EXPLOSION cloud, not like a typical Volcano, I didn't see any black clouds. It was ONE big boom, not several. This "valcano" looked more like a bomb! As did the cloud and reaction! This video, if you will notice, they are next to the valcano, it does not appear to be a life threatening event, yet, you people do realize a Tsunami hit, so.. how are you not putting two and two together??? 12 yrs ago the largest volcano erupted in the ocean, it was much closer to new zealand, yet, it had no effect on new zealand, the valcano you are looking at in this video is of that one. But now suddenly one WAAAY farther away from new zealand hits creating tsunamis and people FELT it??? It was a bomb. Where were the scientists?? Volcanos give us so many clues before they errupt, but nothing?? Not even any steam from water temperature changes?? DONT BE SO GULLIBLE!
